Webcam viewing...

Featured Replies

Hi, Just a quick question.....

I have done a quick search but cant seem to find the answer.....

I have a web cam on the PC at home but was wondering if it was possible to leave it on with the web cam running and access it through the router while at work?

Is there a way to set up the router to allow access with a password?

Thanks,

Ben

You can :)

You'd need a program for remote monitoring that can use your webcam as a source. That will listen in on a certain port. You'd then need to open up that port at your router and have port forwarding so any external internet access will be routed through to the PC with the webcam on it.

If you wanted a password, that feature would have to be provided by the application doing the webcam broadcast.

Not sure on which app though. Never done it myself...

Easy solution is this:

MyCast your digital media with Orb 2.0 remote pc access software

Allows you to share all your files etc as well as your webcam over the internet.

You install the software, sign up and then you login to the site on another pc and as long as the software is running on the pc you want to access it will allow you to do so through internet explorer.

You can even acces it through your mobile phones browser should you wish to do so... it works pretty well in all anyway and is soooo easy to set up!

what kind of webcam have you got? USB or IP?

I'm guessing USB; the IP ones tend to be quite a deal easier to sort as they work with this intention in mind.

Phil's suggestion sounds interesting. Might have a go with the one I have here, see what happens :)

Thanks for that it's absolutely fantastic! I've signed up and dl'd the software, then just had a little play using my N95 hooked up to the wireless home network.

You can remotely access the webcam, there is about a 5 to 10 second delay but it's a good picture. Photos, music and even videos stored on your home PC. And if you have a TV Tuner, you can watch TV wherever you are.

I'm impressed.
