Is there a licencing cost for Cisco VPN client?

Featured Replies

Simple question.

I have installed it on my laptop so I can remotely connect to customer sites. Before my dumb IT helpdesk come down on me with this "unauthorised application", I'd like to confirm I'm cosher and not breaking any laws.

There's no installation key or anything required, and I'm pretty sure I'm ok as it's only of use if the system you're connecting to has PIX or whatever setup and working.

Can someone put my mind at rest please?

TIA

Don't know about Cisco, but most are licenced at the device you connect to: i.e: they'll only allow x concurrent connections, where you have x licences. That's what checkpoint does.

Cisco VPN is licenced by the concentrator AFAIK - I.E. the ASA5520 comes with ~300 VPN licences included.

Ta very much

Hi, just seen this and out of interest, we use checkpoint firewalls and use SecureClient for our remote users and allow 3rd parties to connect using SecuRemote. This is normally a free download as we give the url to get it. Found out this week they have decided you have to have an account to download?

Also, as i think you say it is vendor specific, as I know cisco and checkpoint clients use different ports.
