Hey guys, have a octy mk 1 at the moment but wanting to change, possibly to a Fabia, any tips? I live in ireland and not sure whats available here so whats the best version of the fabia? Also I've seen pics of modified fabias, something i'd love to do, is it easy enough to do it?

Depends what you want to do in/with your Fabia and how much you are willing to spend.

Your expressed desire to "Mod" your vehicle tells me maybe the vRS would be a good option? I believe early high mileage 03/53 plate cars are getting nearer and nearer the £5,000 mark.

If you just want to potter around in then maybe the 100bhp TDi would be a good option. Or if you do fewer miles then the 1.2 16v is good. But avoid the 1.4 MPi it's a wheezy old original Skoda Unit, not VAG, and the underpowered 1.0 12v.

well i'm not a serious modder, full bodykit will do me with a nice set of alloys. does the vRS have the nice engine sound? Also can anyone tell me what remapping is?

the vrs engine sounds pretty pap like most other diesels

Get the VRS definately, as above you will never get a great sound from a diesel, even with blueflame exhaust and the like. Diesles are good for 250 miles + so dont worry about that too much when looking. Modding the VRS is easy if you are taking it to garages to do! Modding any car yourself you need to be mechanically minded. THere are plety of thing to mod on the fab and plenty of places to buy the mods from. It is easy to get 180 BHP and to get a really good look by lowerting and slapping on alloys, seat cupra splitter etc. Perfect car to start a modding newbie off. as above at 5k it cant be beaten for value for money either.

I think the vRS sounds like what you need. No need to worry about a bodykit, you could add the cupra splitter and new wheels like stuno1 said, but lots to do under the bonnet/chassis. Lowering, rarbs, filters, chipping, brakes and so on. Forget sound unless you want something like Honda's CTR or s2000. Fabia make perfect sleepers.

I've just bought one and I am so happy I did. I've driven quite a few cars, whilst not owning them, and it takes a lot to beat the Fabia for performance for your money.

Re-mapping is when your ecu is re-callobrated to maximise BHP/Torque....Jabba sport are spot on, so are revo, loadsa of people provide this service. All this info is available on the forum if you search...

No diesel will ever sound good... ever. The best you can hope for is not a complete tractor. The PDTDis are actually pretty good in this respect, only sounding like a bag of spanners being tossed around for the first five or so minutes on very cold mornings.

The vRS will be the fastest standard Fabia you find, but maybe you want to opt for the rare 2.0 16v Fabia? It has the same 115bhp engine that powered the non-turbo (AKA: Naff version) of the Mark IV Golf. It isn't much kop, but noise wise it's gotta be the best of the Fabia range?

only advice as a fellow ireland resident is to buy in england, as the are about 1k-1500 cheaper than here, i have two fabia vrs, one is totally standard and the other is modded, look for my links
