Featured Replies

Ive been asked to find my mum a camera, got to be pretty cheap apparently!!!!!

what do you think about this (cannon powershot A550 5mp) or is there anything else someone would recommend having used etc?

cheers all

Canon PowerShot A550 Digital Camera - Tesco.Direct

I think that should be nice. We bought the Powershot 710 last year, and I think it's an excellent little camera, and quite simple to use. I've been really impressed with the speed in which you can take pictures, so never miss that moment. Although the flash can occassionally take a little while to recharge. HTH

thanks guys. I think the cannon will do the trick.

I too have the Canon A710 and it is a great little camera, it does have a lot of features however, so you had best set it up fo your mum first. I would leave the IS on all the time and invest in some rechargeables for her too.

Failing that, my favourite camera for all round snapping is the Fuji F40fd. You can get them for about £120 from Argos (called the F45 there I think) or hunt around at Jessops etc. it has just been discontinued as has the Canon A710, but the Fuji takes much better low light pictures. In fact it takes better low light pictures than any other small Digi camera on the market imho. Its successor the Fuji f50 is not as good at low light shots as it has too many megapixels. Avoid cameras with too many pixels as it takes longer to store the image, you run out of memory on your card quicker, you can’t se the difference unless you blow the picture up to a huge size, it will have more noise in low light shots such as in a house or pub etc.
