Coolant: buying the right type

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have just had a new radiator fitted on my Y-reg Fabia 1.4 and need to top up the coolant/anti-freeze.

The handbook recommends G12 which is pink, but Halfords doesn't seem to sell this specific type, just stuff that it claims is suitable for all main brands of car.

Previously I used a blue coolant which also made this claim but that was when I had an undiagnosed leak.

Since I've now had the radiator replaced, I won't now be losing coolant so I'm keen to get exactly the right type for my car - anyone know if the pink Halfords stuff is okoay, or if there's anywhere else I can get it?

Cheers!

Go to any VW/Skoda/Seat/Audi garage and pick up some G12 Plus. Its not that dear, and its the only stuff you should be putting in your car :)

Go to the main dealer or a VAG affiliate. Pink isn't recommended it's claimed it can cause corrosion.

the vag stuff is pink

LOL my bad, fingers in front of my brain again.

Yeah, G12 is the best stuff really, that way you know your right.

Its not that expensive, and it comes in 1.5 litres (usually)

I believe that G12 has now been replaced with G12+ which is compatible with both G11 and G12 coolants.
