Fabia Radio replacement.

Featured Replies

Hi

I have been searching around this forum for advice on changing the normal fitted radio in a 2000 fabia for a new on from halfords or somewhere. But it seems most posts are about specific problems that5 people have and i dont really understand them.

Anyway, just wondering how difficult it is to replace the radio by myself. If anybody has some sort of guide that would be great. If not, does anybody know how much it would cost to install a new one if I brought it to a skoda dealer. I know halfords do it cheap but have seen reviews that say, unless it is a really simple job, then they dont know what they are doing.

I would preferably like to do it myself, but would need some sort of guide as I have seen from other posts that it is not just a case of plugging it out and stuffing another one in.

Thanks in advance

I got one from halfords. A blaupunkt (cheapie around £99) No need to mess with the wiring as it was a direct fit. Did find that I needed a signal booster for the radio though and that was about £7 and although you need to mess with the wiring it wasn't to hard. Don't forget your facia plate a slim plastic surround that fills in the space left behind by the old radio.

Where does the signal booster go? Somewhere in behind the radio or in the car somewhere???

So it is just a case of buying a radio, a booster and something to get the radio out with (little keys or credit card strips ets) and then just reconnecting the old wires to the new radio??

Perfect might try doing it myself then.

Thanks for help

behind the radio, it splices into the wires that connect to the back of the radio. Works a treat too.

If your lucky halfords may even have a special offer on ... Free fitting. Worth asking.

Tho many radios do need adapters to be fitted + the facia adapter. Oh and halfrauds will be more than likely offering free fitting on the radio, but to be honest you pop out yours using radio keys, connect the wires, fit the facia adapter, push it in and turn it on.

you can use a junior hacksaw blade snapped in two as keys to get the radio out

O.k, thanks

so is it hard to fit the adapter? I dont think I will have a problem getting it out as that has been covered quite extensively on briskoda. Just have no idea what to do after that.

I guess I will just give it a whirl and see what happens. When i look on the halfords website it advises that I need these 3 things:

Harness Adaptor PC2-69-4

Fascia Adaptor FP-20-00

Antenna Adaptors PC5-52

Now I have the Fascia Adaptor already, and I am guessing that the Antenna Adaptor is the booster that a lot of people have mentioned on here. But I have no idea what the Harness Adaptor is, how its installed or what it is for.

if anyone knows, I would be greatful.

Thanks Again

Dude just go to halfords and get them to fit it for you. On their website their advertising half price fitting on select head units less than £20

That's a no brainer if it saves you time and hassle...

Yeah, am thinking of doing that but I quite like the idea of installing it myself and not always having to rely on prfessionals to do it.

Bought the Haynes manual for my car this morning so that might have some tips. Might also be able to give my car a bit of a service using the manual. Just to check that everything is running o.k

You will need to swap the permanent and switched live terminals for an aftermarket stereo IIRC...

I think that would be the best option. If Only I could buy an official skoda radio with an aux socket in it.

Oh well

Thanks for all the advice everybody
