Connecting xbox 360 through laptop...

Featured Replies

It this possible?

I've got a network lead that'll run from xbox to laptop, and the laptop has a wifi connection.

Is it possible to use the laptop to connect to the network?

Just bought a 360 today and £70 for a wireless adapter seems a tad steep.

Should be possible if you configure the laptop to act as a bridge/router...

(Nods head and pretends to understand).

Sorry, could you explain how as I'm pretty ignorant with networks.

Assuming you're using Windows XP or higher, it should just be a matter of going into your network connections, selecting the wireless network device and the LAN device that the XBox is connected to, then right click and choose "bridge connections". This should then create a "bridge device", and you should be away...

Excellent, thanks.

Now up and running.

Both xbox and laptop connecting fine, even if the laptop is telling me it isn't.

Sounds about right...bloody things...

Just make sure you get the right LAN cable.

You need a RJ45 Cat5 Crossover Cable

They're both running fine on a standard network cable. I thought I'd need a crossover, but as I type this on the laptop, the xbox is downloading a software update.

Aaaaahhhhhh but....... If it's not a crossover cable the xbox will install the update back to front and then where will you be!!!!!
