Vegetable oil mix

Featured Replies

I realise quite a lot has been posted on this subject, but what do others think about putting in pure rape seed oil at about 10%, more as an additive to clean stuff through rather than to save money. Now that the temperature is warmer, there's less chance of globules forming and damaging the Lucas pump. I have posted threads before about the common warm start problem with Felicia diesels, and although mine is much better, it's not perfect. I already put in an additive every four months or so, but I though that 3-4 litres of rape seed oil every tankful might be even more effective than the occasional 500 ml of Comma or other diesel additive.

Any thoughts, ideas or experience most gratefully received.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Mr Music

Don't see why you shouldnt try.

One guy in our office runs his 306 on 50/50 Veg oil and diesel

dont think the older engines are too fussy.

As I understand it 100% veg oil in a felly diesel would be certain death for pumps/injectors. But some very old diesels, like an old merc would run happily on it.

A bloke down the road does nothing but strain the lumps out of the oil he gets from the chippy and curry house and puts it in his transit ice cream van. He says it is a bit slower than on derv , but how fast does an ice cream van need to go?

found out our 1.9 dervs can run a 50 /50 mix not sure what pump i will have on my fabia pickup

Theres a Fabia pick-up?

Lucas pump? Is that the EPIC pump, or a plain mechanical one?

With the rocketing price of veg oil it won't be worth doing this soon, it's 98p a litre local to me.

thats true

get diesel at work for 90 p lol

so easy doing that way and its white just a deal with a driver i have lol

I have used 10%-20% mix of vegoil/mineral with no problems . I also use a 'bio' diesel they sell at most fuel stations in spain, which is actually 20% biodiesel. Got almost 52mpg out of that tank! Sunflower oil is 1.15 Euro here, so same price as the diesel! I need to find a friendly restaurant (to supply old oil) as we are doing 4-500 milesa week at the moment!
