I beleive the flywheel coming from the engine of an automatic is directly attatched to the torque converter, so maybe some new output shaft/flywheel:confused:

I'm not an expert though

A V6 is a big heavy lump imo to have in something like a seven style car, i would want something small, light and revvy!

My best mate and his brother race locosts with little 1.3 ford x flows putting out about 100bph and blimey they shift!

Will a V6 even fit.. let alone the gearbox issue

I have driven a Westy Megabusa, MY GOD!!!!! Was it quick:eek:. Finding neutral was a bit of a bugger though.

I have also driven a Caterham with a cross-flo Ford engine , many years ago and it felt just right. I honestly think you will miss the point of a Colin Chapman car if you pt a huge lump like a Ford V6 into it. small and light is best in a Caterham. So I agree with apinner (see I do techie stuff) and the answer to your question imho is a resounding 'no' 'I'm afraid.

It depends on the engine - is it the 12v V6 or the 24V Cosworth, or to put it another way is it 145BHP or 195 to 205BHP? Either way, it's such a big lump it would make the handling pretty poor. As for the autobox, provded it's been looked after and had regular transmission fluid changes then it should be ok. Manual conversions for these are rare and finding the donor gearbox - especially for the Cosworth engine - is a struggle.

I'd be tempted to look for something smaller and more tuneable like a 2.2 Honda VTEC.

your better off looking for a 2.0 zetec engine from a mondeo

I think Rover K Series engines are popular for these sorts of cars as well

Head Gaskets on standby:D

Do it the traditional way and find something with a pair of Carburettors on it. It will sound better too.

Thanks for all your help guys...new i would get honest answers quickly in here !!...sound like its back to the drawing board...main attraction with the granada...was ..."yours for 60 quid " ....like the idea of a zetec engine but still need a donor for ancillaries, running gear, box and diff !!..for as cheap as poss to keep "Her" happy !!!

Find an old rwd Ford engine, should be cheap and plenty of bits around for them. Plus they have been extensively fitted to the 7 for many decades so there is a huge amount of experience out there if you have a problem. But best of all, CARBS!!! A lot of younger ppl today have never driven a car with carbs. They are great! The induction noise is almost hypnotic, the gentle coaxing into life on a morning as your twin 40/45s spit, sneeze and cough really make you believe the thing is alive and then you get her warmed up and into her rev range. That’s when you find what instant lagless acceleration is like. For me there is nothing so sudden as putting your foot down in a well sorted Carburetted car, it’s a glorious sensation. A Zetec or any other injected engine would never give you this sensation, they are far too anodyne in comparison (I do not refer to raw acceleration figures).

Such a same there is no VAG based kits around. I'm toying with the idea of building a kit car, but I so want something VAG based rather than Ford.

i have done some rallying in a peugot 309gti with the injection ripped out and running on twin 40's... have to agree with you there on the sound a raw yeha when the foot hits the deck...

Been through ebay adtrader and motormarket weekly today ....nothing rwd affordable and close by for transport purposes...remember 15 years ago in scrappys if you tossed a screwdriver in anger you would hit a rwd ford !!!!!...not the case now

What about bmw ? something like an olf 318 ?

What about the 1.6 lump from the original toyota MR2, you can get them up to 170 bhp(ish) and are a real screamer. You can even buy 20v heads for them iirc

Furby vRS engine version anyone ;)

Somebody we know has a throttle bodied 1.6 that you could probably use to directly drive the rear wheels :P

What with the car he has having a 1.6 in it to be replaced he might be amenable to a conversion of the standard one too ;)

Its all about the bike engines..

I think holeshot racing in bradford do a hayabusa turbo circa 500bhp :D :D i'll take 2! They also make a V8 made from 2 bike engines good for 650bhp :DImage

holeshot link goes to a company in ireland

Oh yeah, just found out they have moved! Quite a move Bradford to Ireland

you can put the webbers on the zetec lump too if you have the right manifold, plus you can bolt on a sierra rwd box straight on

Someone in practical performance car magazine is building a westfield with a VAG 1.9tdi lump??

I built a Locust many years ago with a 1.3 x flow. It was like a go cart!!

As said the V6 would be heavy.

You might be able to use the axle but that is about all.

Why not see if you can use a nissan 200 as a donor. Rear wheel drive and very tuneable.

Cheers

I'd need a full blown kit. I not that good an engineer to be able to do my own home brew VAG kit car

I think I'd opt for the vauxhall redtop engine. :)
