Vag-com Radio ERROR 00857, help please

Featured Replies

Ok, I've gotten some error codes out from my little problem with the Xcarlink.

It's showing this error on vag-com on radio module :

00857 - CD Changer Unit (R41)

00857 - CD Changer Unit (R41): No Signal/Communication

Possible Symptoms

  • CD Changer Unit (R41) not working

Possible Causes

  • Wiring/Connectors from/to CD Changer Unit (R41) faulty
  • CD Changer Unit (R41) not connected
  • Control Module Coding incorrect

Possible Solutions

  • Check Wiring/Connectors from/to CD Changer Unit (R41)
  • Check Control Module Coding

Special Notes

  • Some factory installed Features like iPod interfaces use the same CD-Changer input on the radio.
  • 3rd party or non-standard units which connect to the CD changer interface may cause such fault codes, so unless you are experiencing real problems just ignore this code.

I'm having a real problem, the unit doesn't go on like it should when cdc is selected. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

I've tried moving the grounding to different places and last time it seemed to work but now it has started to show the same symptoms again.

Has anyone suffered from the same error and if someone has any ideas what I should check I'd be very thankful.

Thanks.

It might be a communications problem caused by the X-Carlink.

Yes, it might. But I really don't see how and what could be causing this? With Stream it works without any errors with MFD2 it doesn't???

All the cables are checked and should be ok, I think I need to put the stream back just to check if the xcarlink still works with it. :)

We have gotten several reports like that in German forums, the X-Carlink stuff seems to be not fully tested and by far not ready for the market.

Example, an external changer or in this case emulator has to have separate shielding for audio and power supply ground, that the X-Carlink has but for proper operation the ground has to be combined in the device again which the X-Carlink doesn't. Therefor audio signal issues are typical and not a surprise.

When it comes to the communication on the cd-changer input/output the issues are similar, it appears the X-Carlink is poorly designed and therefor the problems you are experiencing can not be fixed unless the device itself is being fixed.

Personally I would suggest using a Solisto instead.

T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U!

Finally some concrete information on what's wrong with the unit. I've found a workaround to make the unit work everytime.

I shut down the MFD2 manually before switching the car off. This way the unit doesn't autostart when starting the car.

When the MFD2 is manually started the Xcarlink works everytime.

I really need to get a better solution. I've already looked on what Solisto has to offer.

Thanks again.
