what a machine for towing

Featured Replies

i just bought a scout and iam so impresed with it best tow car i have ever had for towing i also owing landrover but i would say scout seem better than landrover and almost just as good on soft ground and also has decent towing weight it seem to me there is no longer need to use big 4x4 for towing with this car on the market just a pity it dont have little more bhp but great car could any one tell me if there is any way to increase bhp and what might be a resonable bhp to expected to get from any remaps that might be on market would love to hear your views ta lads and lasses

Whilst I am sure the Scout is an excellent Tow car (unfortunatly I couldn't justify purchasing one, I merely have a 1.9 Ambiante on order at the moment), I feel that comparing it to a Land Rover for towing is perhaps a little extreme.

Scout Max Towing Weight 1600 kg

Land Rover Max Towing weight 3500kg

BTW the land rover is only 122 BHP and pulls 3.5 tonne loads with ease (up some steep hills), so although a remap may be desired, I don't think towing can be used as an excuse for requiring a remap for a 140bhp car, sorry :)

First Post, I'm sorry it's a little negative, but I'm not a skoda owner yet, so have to defend my beloved Land Rover

I believe 170bhp - 180bhp is achieveable.

after having owned and used my freelander since new and had three new gearboxes since new iam sure new freelanders are very good now all problems are now sorted but frist ones werent very good and after having gearbox replaced it would run for a while then the engine seem to the start to feel underpowered it was a sure sign the gearbox was on it way out but iam not hear to slate landrover also other reason for prefer the scout was it not as much body roll for a car that is not trying to be 4x4 offroader and not trying to say it is you almost get best of both worlds

Welcome to you both,

Have towed with an Oct'y 2.0tdi and now my Landy.

Afraid to say the Landy is the best.

But i could punt the Oct'y down the Lanes alot better.

As I said In my post, I would have dearly loved a Scout, the problem is, that since I own a Defender already I couldn't justify getting a scout instead of an Ambiante (Wish I could).

We too owned an early freelander (1997 one of the first), 95,000 miles on one gearbox (3 clutches though, since it didn't like reversing uphill). I personally would not have considered towing with the freelander (I know a lot of people that do though), so I can see how compared to that, the Scout would be good.

Anyway, I look forward to becoming a Octy II owner and driver shortly.

To keep the thread on subject, would anyone recommend remmend remaps for the purposes of Towing, I'm thinking of additional strain that the remaps may or may not be designed for.
