I think i've made a silly mistake. After searching for a Fabia VRS for a while I put a £200 deposit at a local car sales place for a 04 VRS with 40k miles on the clock for £8000

Part of the deal was a trade-in of my a 52 reg Seat Toledo 1.9 TDi SE 110, with 88k miles on it and got £3000 for it.

I feel that I've made a rush decision and agreed to buy it.

It has a full service history but it seems that after 4 years you should change the timining belt, which is not cheap. I'd like to knock them down some more. I tried at the time but they wouldn't budge.

Any advice on what I could do between now and next week when I pick it up?

or should I just stop f'ing moaning and just look forward to my new car. Its only money after all !

Cancel the deal and look on the For Sale section here.

The guys here are enthusiasts and the cars are not only cheap but far higher spec than your likely to find at a garage.

If not walk away.

I'd say dealer prices the fabia wont be far off 8k, but private you could get the same car for 6.5k.

And a good tip is to never trade in on a newer car, that way they shaft you twice over, first on your old car by giving you a low price then making you pay a premium for your new one - so you loose out twice

Best case would have been £7250 for the VRS. So £750 lost, not worth regretting over.

Hmm if its a dealer i'd try and niggle for them to do the belt for you as its 4 years old

I've got this posted on another forum too with a few replies. The conclusion is to just enjoy the car, not worth worring about!

Sounds like a good car you got there. If its in mint condition then its not worth worrying about. You are always going to pay more at the dealers than in a private sale. This way with the car being 4 years old atleast you have a 12 month warranty from the dealer.

When is it due its next service? I would try and get them do the timing belt for you though.

How much warranty are they giving with the car??? I would push for the cam belt to be replaced, or the waranty is invalid once you drive off the forecourt with out having it changed. Having said that I have not found much info of cam belt failure with the Fabia, now turbo's is a whole different story

well , just bitching about prices 12 months ago,my '05 plate (80k) couldn't get £5.5k at a dealer, an no-one here wanted it.... so judge that.... so it got given back to the finance company... i would have accepted £5k for it (it was 18 months old, with balance of manufacturers warrenty) .... but no-one was interested... amazez=s me what they go for now.....

Can't comment on your car, but it might be worth asking the dealer to give you a good price on a cambelt service since it is now due and you had not realised this when negotiating.

The worse they can say is no and you go elsewhere to get it done.

I would try and get a very good deal on the cambelt as cheeze says.

if i was you I would just walk away, even if you cant get the £200 back.

Unless they give you a guarentee atall, or the car is in exceptionally good condition, i wouldnt go for it.

I got a 56 plate with 10,000 miles for £9,500, so i would say that its a bad deal. Shop around some more.

Mine had cruise, seats, 6 cd changer and built in gps thing.

As i said before 10,000 miles, 56 plate, £9,500.
