Tailgate trimming removal

Featured Replies

Need to knock some rust of Fellie before it's too late and have noticed some rusty spots close to the black plastic trimming that goes right across the tailgate.

I'm always suspicious when it comes to plastic parts with bl00dy clips thar break. As far as I can see the trimming is held by two phillips screws (above the license plate) and some kind of snap-on device at the edges. Is that it or is there more to consider?

I could of course just tear it off and replace it with a painted stripe done in black Hammerite :D

:bump:

I can't believe that there isn't a single Briskodian around that knows how to remove the tailgate trimming

Made a try today. As you can see on the pic (or on your car), the trimming consists of three parts: left, right and a centre piece. There are four Phillips screws that seem to have a function keeping it in place, one for each side and two for the centre piece:

I unscrewed the outer ones, and the outer parts of the trimmings came loose but were still held in place by the centre piece. So I removed the inner screws as well, but the centre piece didn't move at all. Don't want to apply force on a 10 year old plastic thingy, it will surely break :(

Can't find any screws holding it from the inside either?

I can get at a few rusty spots without removing it but it would have been nice if I also could get at the hidden ones (I'm sure they are there).

If you own a Haynes manual, please have a look at page 11.14 and 11.15.

There is an explanation on how to remove the tailgate lock components. And following the procedure, at step 7, the tech is able to unmount the lock button assembly.

If not, let me know and I'll explain you the procedure.

Must confess I don't own a Haynes :o but I'd better get one (they're easy to get in Sweden, too). I'd hoped that it wasn't necessary to remove the lock but apparently it is :thumbdwn: - will have to leave that major surgery for another weekend then.

Well, i want to fit some plastic trim back in, on the bottom lip of the boot, on the inside when open, it's grey plastic and covers the whole back lip, and goes over the male part of the lock device too, also on of the corner pieces too, which doesn't seem to have any kind of clip on it, theres just a hole in the corner on the inside
