Inspection Service on a 1.4 MPI 8V

Featured Replies

Anyone know whats covered on an inspection service? cars just came up to 60k

also how much do the usually cost?

Cheers.

All the details are in your service book. It's what it says on the tin, essentially - an oil change plus a general poke around to make sure everything's as it should be. Your MPi engine has a chain / pushrod setup rather than a cambelt, so that probably won't need doing. The chains can get worn in 30k or less, but unlike a belt, they're not renowned for breaking suddenly so if it's getting too noisy to cope with, replace it, otherwise you ought to be OK for the time being.

My wife's last inspection service + MoT was about £180 from our local independent garage, but that included new pads and shoes. I reckon if it's just the service, and nothing else needs replacing, you should be looking at £120 or less from an indie, or £160-170 from a dealer. It depends on your location, of course...

Hope this helps! :)
