Williams/Toyota disqualified

Featured Replies

Jenson has finished 3rd again with the news of Williams and Toyota being disqualified for using illegal brake ducts!

See the following link for details.

Williams/Toyota disqualification

Here's the scrutineering report of FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer (see pages 11 and 12):

http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/482937042__08_Canada_Official_Report_04.PDF

And here's the article that was in breach:

Article 11.4 of the 2004 tech regulations states:

11.4 Air ducts :

Air ducts for the purpose of cooling the front and rear brakes shall not protrude beyond :

- a plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm above the horizontal centre line of the wheel ;

- a plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm below the horizontal centre line of the wheel ;

- a vertical plane parallel to the inner face of the wheel rim and displaced from it by 120mm toward the centre line of the car.

It has now transpired that Toyota were 3mm out, but Williams were 30mm (!) out - probably on the third point. So either a monumental engineering ****-up in Sam Michael's first race as TD, or a case of cheating. It would be silly to cheat in the race most gruelling to brakes - those will be certain to be checked in post-race scrutineering. So my hunch is the first one - the Williams team's internal communications are sub-standard this season...

:) oooh scrutineers.....not to be trusted you know -

never turn you back on one
