Hello. Is there any idea what is better??? Chip tuning(piggyback) like DASTEK or re-mapping? Is there any diffrence between glow plugs and plug leads?

Any idea about induction kit?? Please H...E...L...P!!!!!

Hi there are many alternatives to tuning a tdi.

Forget the "piggyback" thing as that is just a bullsh*t resistor.Try Dragonperformance or many remapping companies listed on here. They can also help with induction kits too.As to glow plugs and plug leads i don,t know what you mean sorry but good luck:thumbup:

i recently fitted a raid HP tuning box on my car which has tooki it from 110 to around 130bhp, really deos make a difference, i had a ram-air induction kit on mine for a while, deosnt really make it perform any better, just makes it louder and maybe breath abit better at 3000+ rpm but i took it off as i was told that it deosnt give very good protection and i dont want to risk killing my turbo.

Piggyback tuning isn't BS! Putting a resistor into your ECU to increase teh fuelling is. I ran a Dastek piggyback ECU on my Integra Type R and it was pretty much fully customisable as far as different maps went.

Thx for replies, I;m gonna use ANGEL tuning for re-mapping my octy, I'm wonder also about glow plugs- is there any better performance getting NGK plugs? Same about battery and leads- is using more expensive stuff making any better ???

as far as i know, the glow plugs wont help performance as they just help start your engine on a cold morning, so no for that. i would say there is no gains to be found in battery etc. basically to get the most, go for : re-map, pipercross panel filter and full stainless exhaust system and a de-cat pipe.

Ahhh many appologies i thought piggybacks were those cheapo resistors:rofl:

Piggybacks split into 2 types:-

1) Fleabay resistor mod.

2) "Interceptor" maps. These work by changing or replacing a signal from the original ECU map to the fuel injection (or ignition timing in a petrol engine), or other functions (make/model specific). They're more popular on Japanese cars because the standard maps are more locked down than on European cars, and the Japs often run other functions relating to cruise, air con, ABS/ESP, rear steering etc off the original ECUs.

You have either glow plugs (diesel engines only), or one of HT leads (aka plug leads) or separate coil packs (petrol engines only).

As already said, all glow plugs do is help you get the engine started. Plug leads (where applicable, and I'm not sure they are on petrol Octys, they're certainly not on the 1.8T engine) won't give you more power directly; what they will do is give you a misfire and hence less power if the resistance in the insulation starts breaking down.

I understand fuel maps and ecu re mapping ect but ive alway has BMW´s and petrols at that M3´s ect.

How does this resistor thing work and why is it BS?

Doesnt it work at all, what does it do and how does it do it?

It basically cons the engine into thinking it's running cold all the time. If overdone, cue horrendous fuel consumption and emissions, and bore washing.

Thats what i thought! yeah bit of a bodge but surely a bit extra fuel cant do anyharm.
