wheels options - refurb spiders or new advice ?

Featured Replies

looking for ideas guys

first of all car is stock,

basically need 4 new tyres soon in the next 2 months i reckon, i could do with refurbing the alloys as well. couple are a bit kerbed

so i thought on

4 new tyres and refurb the spiders - maybe anthracite don't know

or new alloys and tyres then maybe stick the spiders on here for a cheap price

car is silver and its a 52 plate

opinions sought

thanks

New wheels and tyres 18"s and sell the Spiders.

First dibs for the wheels please. :D

Nothing wrong with the idea of refurbing the rims, except that you'd need a spare set while they're away.

was thinking of maybe getting it done while away on holiday , car is doing nothing for 2 weeks

but

looking around can get a new set with tyres (replicas) for about £400

reckon it would cost me that much to refurb with new rubber

thats the dilema

plus could also sell the spiders if somebody wanted

jas

£400 seems cheap but what sort of qualtiy are the wheels going to be and also tyres will probably be poor at best?

Anthracite spiders would look nice or if you want differnet wheels go for some 18" BBS wheels or maybe O.Z. superturismos etc?

Good Luck

:)

Once again quick to brag about his wheels :D

As for refurbing your original ones. Most places do them in a day so its not exactly major time with out wheels on the car.

Ive just bought some 17" Spiders so id say refurb with tyres

I'm due some new rubber soon, and was thinking of doing exactly the same; upgrading to a new set of wheels at the same time as stock alloys looking tatty.

I thought some Mk1 17" TT alloys might look nice, anybody got any pics of these on an RS? (similar to the Mk1 RS4 alloys)

A refurb would get my vote.

IMO, the Spiders suit the car perfectly.

Taking a slight detore off topic. When buying a set of wheels and tyres for £400 what kind of tyres would you get?

I need new tyres in the next 4 weeks (before my trip to Le Man) but most of the ones im looking at are over £400 for the tyres alone, is their somewhere that offers free wheels with set of tyres or do you just get really cheap tyres and really cheap wheels?

Also, whats the thoughts on tyres? I get bloody good prices on Yokohama but i know most people like the Eagles?

Regards and sorry for the hi jack.

Garry

From what i've experienced, it's normally budget tyres you will get at these prices Garry.

Sometimes you get several options, say for eg- £400 for wheels with budget tyre, and £800 for premium brand tyres (Toyo etc)

Ah, thats what i thought.

Now, what tyres to buy??? Need all 4 so is a good time for a tyre change. Its got "semperit" on at the moment which to be fair have been very good on the road but after a few laps of Lydden Hill circuit on Monday, it soon showed up their limits, lol. Torn between the Eagles and Prada 2 spec Yokos and the Advan Sport V103 Yokos at the moment.

MMMmmmm, to much choice.

I've got Toyo TR-1's on at the moment, and i'll be sticking with them next time too. :)

Yep, cant fault them, they are a good tyre. I'm trying to bear in mind a more track oriantated tyre, without going too silly, lol. Dont want cut slicks that will last 2000 miles, ha ha, but do want something that will grip well.

Mmmm, might have to take a few cars from the workshop out for a brisk drive.

Garry, I like the T1-Rs too, but I've not heard any negative comments about the Yokos either, not even from people who're running 500bhp + Skylines and Supra 4s.

Where do you work? I can avoid you then seeing as you briskly drive round in customers cars:eek: On a side note you can buy these replica alloys with a Toyo upgrade for £540. Mines used for a family car so i'm quite happy with budget tyres during the summer months. Khumo £55 per corner for my 225 40 18s fitted and ballanced by a proffesional tyre fitting place in Kingswinford.

Thats a good price :)

I work at Piper Cams and Exhausts. Have to drive the development cars to make sure the modifications we develop are working. :) Its a tough job ;)

Send the job applications this way Garry. :D

AAaahhh. Nice work if you can find it:thumbup: Anyone that lives near to Kingswinford tyres, give them a bell. They are the cheapest and by far the best service arround for buying tyres. I travel 80 miles each way and still save money. Plus they do laser allignment and nitrogen for the tyres at a good price.

Darren

Yes it does have its perks, lol.

Most of the time is spent in front of a PC while its running simulations so not 100% thrilling :(

And the only car i got in at the moment is a Morris Minor with a Zetec in the front. Has got Yoko A539 tyres on tho so could see what they are like :)

Gonna start a new thread, sorry for the hijack :P

So back on topic...

I still say refurb. :)

Iwould say 18s with cheap tyres :)

Sell the spiders to a Favia owner to offset the cost. Some one like Johnny50 ;)
