Fabia drive train noise

Featured Replies

Hi all - old Fabia has done 115k and the noise is getting worse - guessing must be wheel bearing, drive shaft or diff as it doesnt change when driving in any gear or coasting with clutch in or neutral. It isnt noticeable until about 50mph or above and doesnt get louder with speed - it is getting worse as miles are racked up. Anyone in the know and offer any suggestions - is this a common occurence or fault? The noise is coming from the nearside of the car.

what model of Fabia have you got?

Probablly not the wheel bearing because if they are going they tend to get louder with speed.

I have the same noise comming from rear of the car at lower speed.

After I changed the rear bearings the noise is the same.

Probably the noise is generated by the tyres.

I didn't changed the tyres yet to see the result but I will do soon.

Swap the tyres around and see if the noise moves. If it doesnt i'd wager a wheel bearing.

indeed it could be tyres....

a way to tell with wheel bearings, is (on a quiet road) get to a speed where it makes the noise , then turn the wheel and swing from side to side..... if its a bearing, the noise will change as the wheel in question is loaded and unloaded ect..

(this is how my garage recently (correctly) deduced a set of tyres to be falling apart (federal 595's. dont buy them) with no wheel bearing fault... then a few months later, a wheel bearing gone, with no tyre faults!)
