top speed/ speed test

Featured Replies

I think my car is now run in on over 10k, we went for a drive today to clean the engine out (to many short 10 miles or less trips) and let the car go (within the legal speeds for the roads you must understand). after finding a lovely deserted private airfield with a nice long runway we did a test drive down to make sure it was clear of hazzards before taking the car along it to see how it felt since its had a nice drive and a blast to clear the engine. got 140 which is about 10 over book speed so im very pleased. anyone else been testing their car for full capacity recently then? on autobahns or private roads or even private runways (dont think heathrow would be impressed)!!

I got 142mph on a German autobahn (as opposed to one of the mythical british ones that seem to be popular) before I had to slow down after a car got in the way.

Chris got 120mph...........................................................before getting nicked!

what one you got roo? ive got a 2.0 fsi... i think if i either took it out on an autobahn or could actually find an airfield with a long enough runway that you can legally use (always ask for permission). i reckon maybe another 5-10mph may have been had.

It was a 2.0l tdi which someone had coughed on a little bit.

i know my mpg has actually improved now too, which is a relief.

I'm too scared, not of the speed. But of losing my license / job / life!!

:(

That's what keeps me below three figure speeds , though I did once experiment with the top end of a Thundercat's performance on the M5

I have had 110 absolute max out of my 100PD Tdi standard on a private test road. Not bad i suppose but iam not bothered about top end speed at all.

My standard 2.0TFSI vRS starts to feel a bit "light" at 140mph, but recently had the car five up, and it just cruised nicely at 152mph over about 10 miles feeling planted as anything!!! Does about 15mpg at those speeds too which I thought was impressive :)

This is why its important to fully risk assess with a risk assesment and use the least riskist place, i.e. private road, runway etc. take a slow practice run to note and remove all hazzards, try a few short runs to get the feel and then do it if safe.

At 130 I start to think about family and things.

Them my farting clappers give out and I slow down:O

My fabia starts to feel very unstable at 140mph, at 150+ on clock it feels like it will take off!

Could do with being alot lower and more planted, then i would be more confident and give it all out!

As said above you get to these speeds and cogs in your brain start turning and you think should I actually be doing these speeds in a tin box a foot off the ground.

i've had my octaiva at 150 indicated(not sure on real speed) and it didn't feel any different to 70mph really other than obvious things like steering feeling more sensative but the car wasn't dicey at all :)

but sadly my average speed over the last 12 months is roughly 0mph ;)

I did 70mph once, felt quite stable. :)

in what 1st gear ;)

The appeal of top speed runs is lost on me now a little. I much prefer to just know I can get to 100mph in around 16 seconds, and have some awesome in gear potential.

Taking mine to 150+ just doesn't seem to appeal as much as just thrashing it up to 120, then easing off. :)

got 140 which is about 10 over book speed so im very pleased.

How were you measuring the speed? If you were using the speedo it was probably over-reading by 10mph since they are all optimistic at the top end. Best to cross-check with a satnav.

125mph on the speedo, snatched a glance at the Tom Tom and it read 117. Fastest i've seen, if I lost my license i'd lose my job!

155 mph on an autobahn last year, sat nav speed. Speedo was reading around 160, and had been from about 145 mph.

About 4,100 rpm on saturday afternoon (what ever speed that is  ). Guy in a Leon doing about the same speed. I spotted the undercover Volvo as it came up the slip road. He didn't! Gutted for him.

Had 128 on GPS out of my Fabia. Once I was happy it did what the tin claimed, I slowed down again. :D

Likewise in every car I've ever owned.

Take the handbrake off, that'll cut it by a few seconds.... :haha:

Or were you talking in kph?

Had a GPS Verified 146mph out of mine on the Way to Standford Hall Last weekend!
