Towball Worry

Featured Replies

hello,

i had a skoda towball fitted (removable one) last week to my car (2.0 tfsi vrs), very pleased with it, especially the little features like telling me that a certian bulb was not working, disabling the parking sensors and the alarm going off if electrics unpluged.

Car is very good at towing as brought a 5 ft underground concrete manhole back on trailer and no problems whatsoever even with my diverter valve gone.

just a quick question tho, i noticed that the trailer is very very close to the bumper especialy when turing. i am concerned about this as i will be towing a caravan with the car that has one of theose alko lock down things and i know that they are quite bulky. worried that it may hit the bumper when turning.

Has anyone experienced any problems with the trailer/caravan hitting the bumper?:(

Many Thanks.

I have not looked at the Skoda towball but in the caravan world we know to have either a Swan neck or longer type as we have which allows for the AL-co hitch.

If you look on ALKO's website it tells you what clearance you need. I had a mate with a Citreon Picasso which was tight, less in fact than ALKO recommended and it was OK as long as he didn't try to hitch up at an angle, it didn't touch when hitched because of the shape of the bumper.

Ours with a swan neck Brink is close-ish but fine.

Alko Hitch fits fine for me:thumbup:

Hi, I have no problems with my MkII estate. It has the detatchable swanneck towbar and gives enough clearance for either an ALKO or Winterhoff hitch

I know its a ancient thread but it applies to me and wondered if anyone else has an issue with detachable towbar clearance. On my vrs estate the alko hitch touches on lock on the lower part of the valance !

Is there a solution as when I called PF jones (bought it from them) about it they said it was the correct bar for the car and nothing they could recommend .
