Software failure not so Superb
"Have you chosen the Exec or Luxury trim? I quite like the Luxury myself. And how do you find the car when the battery is exhausted with the 1.5 engine and single speed auto box?" I chose the Luxury because I need the sets to fold fully flat, they do not in the Executive. The ice actually has a 3 speed box, but as you never fully exhaust the battery and are always running on an electric motor you do not notice anything anyway. The ice just acts as a generator. I have read that it may drive the wheels sometimes but have not noticed it doing so or seen it on the graphics. In fact it is very hard to know if the ice is running, it very quiet and unobtrusive. Went to Bordeaux in it a coupe of weeks ago , fully loaded, and it drove perfectly, pulling away from tolls and just leaving every other car behind.

Six weeks of Jaecoo J8 ownership and I am very pleased. No faults at all so far and I can say that it is one of the best cars I have ever owned. Just feel sorry for the person who has bought my Superb!

Software failure not so Superb
After two years of software faults and three trips to the dealers, on every occasion they said everything was fixed, I have finally thrown in the towel Picking up a Jaecoo 8 PHEV today, cannot imagine it could possibly have so many problems! Last straw was when the front air vents broke, they ordered two new ones and three times I asked if they would have to take the dashboard out to fix them, and they were not sure. Picked the car up and they said software replaced at 'base level' and new vents fitted and that there should be no more problems. Drove home and checked the vents, still broken! (I know I should have checked before I left the garage) Phoned them and they said they had replaced the REAR vents! Why would I ask about the dashboard removal if it were the rears, totally useless dealers as usual. oh and the ignition came on when I opened a rear door later in the day , an original fault. btw the the mk3 superb I had a few years ago had no faults or problems in five years of ownership.

What to replace with if the software problems cannot be resolved?
"5 series tourer seats actually fold flat" As far as I can find out the latest 5 series has a capacity of 1700Lwith all the seats folded down, that's getting on for 9 less of the 32L boxes that I carry! Also do the seats fold flat? (or almost flat) That's another thing altogether!

What to replace with if the software problems cannot be resolved?
So my car has already been in for one software update, although some issues were fixed a lot were not, windows opening randomly then not being able to shut, infotainment turning on when opening rear doors, tailgate shutting when loading, over sensitive emergency braking etc etc, all the usual problems. The first service will be due shortly and I'll ask for another software update at the same time. But what if that does not fix the problems? I will have to replace the car as you cannot live with these annoyances. But what with, no Audi, VW, Seat or another Superb as these all have the same software problems. No diesel, just do not like them, so that rules out the E class Mercedes, after this it becomes difficult for another normal estate car to replace the Skoda, there just is not anything else. So reluctantly looking at SUVs, got it narrowed down to Peugeot 5008 or Hyundai Santa FE. There are a few others that nearly fit my use but most let down on there ability to fold all seats actually flat. Any thoughts?

Yes mine is exactly the same, yet sometimes it will neither open or close with the foot sensor but at the same time still closes on your head while loading.

Software failure not so Superb
I had my update done back in June and although most of the problems were cured I still have a few. Tailgate continually closing while you are loading. Drivers side rear door glass will not close properly, likes to be about 1/3 down and takes a lot of jiggling with the switch to get it to shut. Infotainment turns itself on if you open the rear doors or tailgate. Warning lights for sensors light up on cold damp and frosty mornings, will go off after a while. Due for first service in a couple of months so will ask them to investigate then.

I have finally booked my car in for the software upgrade, was waiting until a recall was sent out but a recent experience whilst driving to Germany made my mind up to get it done sooner rather than later We were on route on the French autoroute about half way when the warning lights started coming on, usual front camera, and parking sensor ones etc, but this time the electronic brake and then it went in to limp mode, limiting the engine to 3k rpm. We stopped at the next available lay by and I did the usual routine of switching off, getting out, locking he car and waiting 30 secs. Got back in switched on and started up and all was well, no record in the driving data of any faults ever happening. Usual stuff! Car is booked in on 12th May, lets hope the upgrade cures the problems.

MHEV indicator
if you are displaying the rev counter (I don't) you can see the revs drop to zero when you are running on electric power only

No more auto hold on MK4?
How do you add stuff to the quick menu? I have the auto hold turned on but every now and again for no apparent reason it turns itself off, then I forget how to turn it on again! Would be nice to have it on the top menu

Looking at buying a new Superb
I've had a 1.5 TSi mild hybrid since the beginning of June and have now done 6.5k miles in the car including long runs to Stuttgart and Bordeaux. My previous Superb, five years ago, was a 280 4wd so it is nothing like that but I do not find it under powered at all even with all the ECO options turned on, although when pulling my loaded box trailer I do some times have to switch into Sport while overtaking on inclines. I've seen 55mpg on some runs but overall it's around 45mpg. The car is very smooth and quiet with the electric motor smoothing things out when pulling away and on gear changes, also "coasts" on electric only for quite long stretches. I do miss the plug in facility of my previous car a Peugeot 508SW full hybrid but like having a place for a spare wheel (instead of just getting in the way on the boot floor!) and the underfloor space more.

"make sure you are not triggering the hidden pedal2 No, just standing at the back of the car loading or unloading the car. I believe it is the virtual pedal that is being triggered but the it is too sensitive to movement that is not under the car but just at the back.

I have a couple of faults I have not seen anyone else having. If i open the tailgate, or even a rear door, sometimes the car will turn on, i.e. the main screen lights up and the radio etc starts, Luckily have seen this happen on every occasion, cannot miss it as you can hear the radio! and I have been able to turn everything off again. Also tailgate when open will close on it's own when you are putting stuff in the boot. Sunroof blind will also close for no apparent reason. Hoping to get the software update done early next year and maybe these problems will be addressed but waiting until they have sorted out the upload of the new software properly, no point taking it in twice.

Software failure not so Superb
Went out in the car a couple of hours ago and the central screen came on and then went black, although everything seemed to be working and I could turn stuff on and off with voice control. Turned everything off and locked the car and tried again, still black Left it a couple of hours and just went back to the the car and everything back to normal! Strange, will be getting the software updated in the new year although I have had no problems or errors for a couple of months now.

"The forward facing camera is part your forward collision system" I am perfectly capable of driving a car without these systems and anyone who is not should not have a licence!
