Upgrade the bushes!

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd pass on some info.

The main manufacturers that we get over here are Powerflex, Whiteline, Vibra-Technics, and SuperPro (Fulcrum suspension).

Powerflex

SuperPro

LISTINGS FOR ALL FABIAS AND ROOMSTERS

FRONT WISHBONE FRONT PIVOT BUSH

Powerflex = PFF85-201 = This is a two "top hat" piece with a thin wall (3.5mm) stainless steel tube insert. (Had problems with this one, tho' not all their fault, and other people have reported the same problem of the thin walled tube "eating" the subframe hole bigger!, there is a fix if you already have these).

SuperPro = SPF3311K = This is a two "top hat" piece with a thick wall (5mm) steel tube insert. I recommend this one!!

SuperPro = SPF1915K = This is for very early Roomsters only.

FRONT ANTI-ROLL BAR BUSH

Powerflex = PFF85-603-(size), (Made for 16mm, 18mm, 19mm dia ARB's) = This is a simple split one piece design.

SuperPro = SPF2901-(size), (Made for 16mm, 18mm, 19mm, 20mm, 22mm dia ARB's)K = This is a simple split one piece design.

FRONT WISHBONE REAR BUSH (CONSOLE)

All of these are better than the OEM, OEM "X" type, & OEM "Cupra" types, because they allow unrestricted movement of the wishbone in the correct plane, and restrict movemont in all other planes.

Powerflex = PFF85-602 = This is a two piece push in design. (Best if you don't want to remove the console unit, etc.)

Whiteline = W0605 = This is a two piece push in design.

SuperPro = SPF3271K = This is a two peice design with the outer piece bonded to a metal sleeve. This design needs the console to be removed from the car and the outer piece pressing into the console like the OEM bushes. (Best)

SuperPro = SPF3273K = This is the offset version of above which can be used as "anti-lift" or "steering correction". In anti-lift configuration it is very good for reducing "hop and skip" of the inside wheel on lowered cars with stiff suspension.

SuperPro = SPF2082K = This is for very early Roomsters only.

REAR BEAM AXLE PIVOT BUSH

PowerFlex = PFR85-415 = One piece solid bush with a stainless steel tube insert. You have to make up a puller for this one to pull it into the mounting!!

SuperPro = SPF2481K = This is a two "top hat" piece with a steel tube insert. This will be alot easier to install than the Powerflex one piece! (Best)

Vibra-Technics = VAG290B = This is a metal bush with a small rubber center. This needs to be pressed in.

LOWER REAR ENGINE MOUNT REAR BUSH

PowerFlex = PFF85-620 = 70 shore hardness

PowerFlex = PFF85-620P = 80 shore hardness

PowerFlex = PFF85-620R = 65 shore hardness

SuperPro = SPF2907-70K = 70 shore hardness (Best).

SuperPro = SPF2907-80K = 80 shore hardness.

See this post for engine mount bush. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

ENGINE MOUNTS

Vibra-Technics = VAG220M = This is a whole replacement lower rear link (dog-bone).

Vibra-Technics = VAG210M = This is a whole replacement drivers side engine mounting.

Vibra-Technics = VAG200M = This is a rebuilt passenger side engine mounting and requires your original mounting!

WARNING: using all the above Vibra-Technics mounts will result in too much vibration for day to day driving. This has been found out by several members of this forum, and V.T themselves only recommend them for racing track cars!

MISC

Meyle do a heavy duty front drop link (Front ARB to front damper link) code no; 116 060 0000/HD, VAG code; 6Q0411315N

http://www.meyle.com...enger-cars.html

Whiteline mainly do replacement ARB kits (up to 22mm dia) and various other bits!

EDIT:

This will be updated as and when new stuff is made. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Now then!!

Joined up to find info on this topic.  I will scan through the Fabia pages too.  Here goes!!!

For any mechanics of home mechanics more capable than myself, I am replacing the rear console bushes in the next week or so, I am happy with this process.  However while the wishbonse are out of the car I intend to replace the front bushes also.  I am not interested in the Super-pro upgrade, standard bushes are fine but how do you get them in.  I can see how to get the old ones out with a improvised press (a couple of sockets of appropriate size and a vice or press.  How do you get the replacements in though.

Thay are a one piece design like this:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Roomster_1.4_2008/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/suspension-bushes/?610440275&1&390c3a955b0960a8ff9979307951e9bbdc81b257&000437

Can I just press these back in and rely on their newness for pliability and not damage them?

Any hints or tips much appreciated.

The same improvised press can press them in with the help of a little washing up liquid.

Make SURE you press them in the right way (don't ask how I know this) else you will be sat there for a long time...

Cheers for the heads up.

I got you completely. They only go in one way.

Words of wisdom on this one is that you cannot have too much washing up liquid.

Also, if anyone is interested, there is a variety of self made console bush removal and insertion tools for around £30.  I took the plunge and it worked a treat.  All in dismantle time 4 hours.  Put back another 4 hours but I did the brake back plates and cleaned the brakes up too and the anti-toll bar bushes while I was in there.  Worthwhile job.  Second time round I would be quicker.

A good way to re-insert the wishbone is to use a ratchet strap to provide the push required.

Get your bushes done!!!!!!!!  MOT time I guess
