Clutch lead times

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, I already sent an email to Brian a few days ago to ask him this, but if someone else from Jabba happens to see this then maybe they could get me an answer for this. I need to buy some new clutch parts, as a minimum the SMF (to replace a failing DMF), release bearing and bolts. However the pressure plate and friction plate aren't too old, so depending on the condition I'm hoping to reuse one/both of these parts to save on costs. The problem is that the condition can't be checked properly without doing half the job (i.e. removing the gearbox and the old parts) so in order to do this I'd need to do one of two things:

1) Get the car stripped and checked and only order what I definitely need. This would require me to be able to get the clutch parts delivered in around 1-2 days, as I need the car for work daily but could borrow a car or take holiday for a couple of days tops while the parts are delivered and the work completed.

2) Order the whole kit @ £990, use only whichever components of the kit are required, and return the rest unopened for pro-rata refund against the cost of the kit.

So if someone could tell me what the usual delivery time is for your SMF kit, and what your policy is on returned unopened parts, I can make arrangements for whichever path makes most sense.

Cheers!

Hi Gavin.

You'll most definitely need the SMF and the friction plate. The pressure plate you will be fine to re-use.

The friction plate you currently have will be solid, whereas the friction plate for the SMF kit has a sprung centre.

Technically, you could fit the solid friction plate that you have there and the clutch would be fine, but you'd get judder on takeup of the clutch which we don't recommend..

All you need to do is drop us a call and place and order for the SMF and the friction plate.

Thanks

Yeah, I found out about the difference in friction plates a couple of days ago. The pressure plate I have has done more milage than I thought it had, it's done around 50k already so I'm not sure now whether to replace it anyway for peace of mind, I'm looking into prices of other full kits at the moment to see how they compare to your £990 for the whole lot.

Are your SMFs available "off the shelf", i.e. is a 1-2 day delivery time feasible? Or are they made to order?

We have SMF on the shelf.

Thanks

Cheers Kevin, think I'm going to go with this so hopefully give you a bell tomorrow or Saturday and sort out an order :)
