Cambelt

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Some of you might remember i posted a month or 2 ago about a Superb I'd bought off ebay, well, suffice to say it went back to the person I bought it from following a full service at Skoda in Hull, that'll teach me to buy a cat C write off to save a bit of cash....

Anyhoo, the head gasket on my 307 went on Friday, it's done 150000 miles so not worth shelling out £600 to fix it so I need a car sharpish.

I was keeping a look out anyway, so went to see an 05 Elegance on Sat, great condition, full service history on 89k.

there wasn't any record in the service history of the cambelt being changed though, so my only worry is it hasn't been, which going on other posts on here would mean £400+...

Rang Royce Roberts in Hull and they're doing some kind of National pricing so the cambelt change would be £299, just thought I would share in case any of you guys need yours doing.

I put a deposit on the car, so I will perhaps be a Superb owner on Wednesday.....

**Edit**

Erm, sounds a little like a marketing post for Skoda Hull, I just rang them to see if a cambelt change worked out cheaper when done with a full service. The dealer i'm getting the car from would do a full service you see, so it's whether I get them to do it, or Skoda in Hull (possibly along with the cambelt).

The dealers' service was going to be £299, then I told them Skoda did theirs for £249, so he dropped the price down (although Royce Roberts then dropped theirs to £225 when I told them that!).

although if the dealer does it, it'll mean i have to hire the car i'm in a bit longer while they do that, whereas Skoda will give me a courtesy car...

This car buying stuff gets a bit complicated, and i haven't even mentioned warranties yet......

Get your waterpump done at the same time

The last time I was in my local Skoda I was surprised at how inexpensive the cam belt was; I think it is now a fixed-price job across many different models.

2.5 v6 diesel owners do not get excited as doesn't include our engine.

They've updated their policy then because I had mine done under the fixed price servicing last year, altough now I see that the V6 has been excluded. At the time I booked mine in they rang me back afterwards and said it was excluded and I pointed them to the website at the time, where there was no exclusion and got it done under the fixed price regime. They we're too pleased, apparently it was in the workshop for 10 hours :giggle: .
