Octavia 11 glovebox query - not a wind up! What should it contain?

Featured Replies

Two brief questions...

Q1/ We've just taken delivery of a used 1.9 TDi PD SE etstae, registered August 2009 (facelift model I believe, right hand drive). Somnething is missing from the glovebox, but unsure - what?

The glovebox doesn't have an internal light, nor a connection for radio, just a square hole on the right hand side near the rear on the right hand side, with scratch marks around suggesting it contained something. Should it accommodate a glovebox light? Or maybe an external connection such as a jack plug or MDI connection?

Left hand side of glovebox contains the airbag disabling switch, as expected.

Can anyone throw light on what the right hand empty hole should contain? I used a torch to fish out a double strand wire that has a small flat plastic connector with two side clips.

fyi there's no centre armrest and cannot see any means of connecting to the Bolero radio on centre console or anywhere else.

Q2/ The Bolero radi apparently has bluetooth, but no phone kit. My wifes Nokia has bluetooth. Am I being optimistic to think the two could connect without wires? I've switched on the Nokia bluetooth connectivity, switched on the ignition and radio 'Phone' setting as well as working through the media connectivity, but nothing, so gave up.

All help gratefully received!

If its about 7 or 8 cm long and high up in the glove box, it's most likely the light (the connector certainly sounds like the light one - two wires, clear thin, plastic connector).

If its shorter (about 5-6 cm) and low down then it's probably the MDI thats been removed (but I doubt it). Jack / 3.5 mm Aux connectors were never located (OEM) in the glovebox AFAIK.

The Bolero radio (no Skoda Head Unit) has BT built in. It needs to be a separate box connected to the loom at the rear of the HU.

It should look like this, without the led :giggle:

The black thingy is what is toutched when opening and closing the glovebox to activa the light

Many thanks for replies!

Square hole is on upper right hand side so sounds like a light. I did look for the switch but couldn't see one, is it inside against the (hidden) glovebox front supportlid?

KB - from your post, do I understand that I need another electronic box connected before a BT phone will connect?

Also, is there no external jackplug/MDI connection for my particular radio?

Switch is part of the light itself Iirc.

Bluetooth is indeed a separate box.

If you don't have the centre armrest then there is no jack plug or mdi connection as standard. Both can be added easily and enabled with vcds.

There does need to be another controller box (and wiring, mic, etc.) for BT.

There is no external socket on the HU, you need wiring and a 3.5mm Aux socket (usually located in an armrest / Jumbo box) or a retrofit witining loom, MDI controller & cable for 3.5mm aux or iPhone or mini USB or standard USB.

MDI or Aux both connect to the rear of the HU into the quadlock connector.

The Bolero certainly has the capacity for an aux-in connection but as standard it's installed inside the centre armrest, which you don't have fitted. Bit daft but there you go. You can buy the necessary cable and install it in the back of the headinit yourself, and route it wherever you like, usually either the top centre storage box or glovebox.

(Don't have the cable details but I'm sure someone will)

Kits for Aux are available from Skodateile.cz quite cheap.

Not to hard to DIY by the looks of it.

Does need to be enabled with vcds though

He's correct (and I forgot to mention that point).

Thanks - so I need an MDI for Bluetooth and Aux for MP3 input?

Also <<does need to be enabled with vcds though>> - 'scuse my ignorance but is that a CD, bit of electronic kit or a programme link?

No, you need Bluetooth module for Bluetooth, and an mdi OR aux for mp3. Both will need coding with vcds.

Vcds is PC software that is used to program the cars features and function via the diagnostic port.

To use VCDS you also need a cable (c. £250+) or contact a local Briskodian who has the cable and can do it for you (see the thread on this forum with owners of the cable: like me if you are near Worcester / Hereford).

Where is the outlet for the A/C in the glovebox that can be opened / closed.

OK, so there are no wire associated with this feature but isn't in the right of the glovebox somewhere.

It does seem strange why either the outlet of the light would have been removed!?

Whereabouts in Surrey are you?

OK, clearer, thanks.

A/C outlet in right hand side of glovebox, near front.

Looks like I'll forget the bluetooth/MP3 stuff in view of cost and complexity, and just use it as a car!

Thanks to everyone anyway

So, visited the dealer today and they gave me the glovebox lamp assembly - fitted perfectly just as described by KBphoto and the photo posted by Alberg - thank you, it helped be clear what was meant to go into the slot.

Also collected one other of two remaining bits - tyre retaining plastic nut/screw assembly for spare wheel retention (took this from our old octavia to avoid having to use the barmy gunge and pump option) and have yet to collect the tow-bolt eye that screws in (missing from car).

New to this forum and you've all been a great help - cheers!

Amundsen + does.

I stand corrected.

I'll get to see the Amundsen range one day...
