Columbus alternative with DAB and rear view camera!

Featured Replies

Just come across this alternative on auto express website that advises from skoda main dealers!

Has Dab and rear view camera, 7 digit postcode sat nav so if my columus unit fails might be a better replacement if cheaper and is higher spec than skoda unit.

Very good but will it also do TV?

Just looking as spec yes does freeview tv so appears higher spec than standard columbus unit i.e.

OEM Fitting with TV, Dab, full sat nav with lane assist and rear view camera.

Be interest to see if it is covered under skoda warrenty if supplied by a skoda dealer and how much they would charge to fit.

Has anyone actually got this unit installed? Im very interested in this solution.

Does it work with the MFD, MFSW and Climatronic?

Why would you want Škoda to fit it, then offer a 1 or 2 year warranty on it? (and mark up the price accordingly)

It comes with a 3 year warranty, so just get a Kenwood dealer to supply and fit it.

Yes…it may need an additional black box installed (no mention on a part number or price that I could find).

According to the video on Kenwoods website it does work with MFD, MFSW and Climatronic.

I'm able to answer a few of the above questions as I have it

Plug and play to work with the climate control and wheel buttons

It has everything for you to connect your reversing camera and TV however I have not so don't know anything about that

It is covered under Skoda warranty as I thought I had a problem with the phone connecting then disconnecting but have now found out its the way they are stored in the phone

I had loads of questions when buying the Kenwood DNX521dab and could not find much so if I can help with my little knowage I will try

Don't seem to have any "in-built" storage? Looks good though.

No it doesn't

I have music on my USB which the Columbus does not have

A 32GB SDHC card is more that adequate + I suppose you can use a USB flash drive too???

I don't use the SD card as I didn't have one and I needed the USB to be able to update the system

I have a few questions about the Kenwood too.

1) Does the centre box AUX input still work with this media unit?

2) How unsightly is the DAB antenna fitting on the windscreen?

3) Does it have an externally mounted microphone for the Bluetooth connection as there's no voice mic on the unit itself?

I've ordered one for my new Yeti & am worried it'll ruin the look inside.

Is the new columbus unit fitted in the new Octavia III a higher spec with DAB and AV input?

Will it fit into the superb dash if it is a better unit?

Assume it will be fitted into the facelift superb out later this year.

DAB has been an option on the current Columbus unit in the Superb since around February this year, it costs an extra £200 though.

1) Does the centre box AUX input still work with this media unit? Not sure what this is

2) How unsightly is the DAB antenna fitting on the windscreen? Not to bad from the outside and I don't really notice it from inside

Would I be right in assuming this is the same case with the Columbus DAB unit on the Yeti and you don't get the new unit being rolled out in the Skoda Mk3?

Can the new Columbus unit be fitted to 2012 model cars? So I can have DAB.

I have a Superb L & K, the TV tuner provides me with DAB perfectly well - rear parking cameras - why do you need 'em?

Not the camera as the rear sensors are fine it is the DAB radio that I am after as the digital is for the free view tv chanels if I have got that right.

I think the TV is a seperate module and not integrated within the new Columbus.

Well I have had my car for nearly a year and just found ot that I can get the digital radio channels on free view of my tv tuner ( I think).

You can the Freeview tuner is just that - like the one in your tele

I know but at least I have the DAB radio stations I wanted, 5Live etc.
