Hi Guys/Gals

We're coming to the end of our current 2-year mobile contract with Orange (sorry, EE) and looking at what next for phones. We've had S2s for this period and have been very happy with them, so the S4 is a logical step up.

Anyone had any hands-on or heard any good/bad stories?

Dont think they are actually available yet are they? My brothers is due for delivery on the 24th of this month....

I'm disappointed we're not getting the Exynos octo-core version (we get the quad core Snapdragon version instead) which if it works correctly should offer high performance and decent batterylife as it can swap down to the less powerful cores when it doesn't need them. Then again I haven't seen any real world figures for the new Exynos platform so it may not behave as well as expected.

Google is your friend on this and the reports so far seem very promising.

From the spec, the size doesn't appear to be much bigger than the S2 (which I'm also using), which is one of the things I did't really like about the S3, it seemed MASSIVE.

Just need to decide on the contract, don't really want a 2 year, as I'd managed to switch the S2 on to an 18 month though.

It is due within the last week of the month.

I'm waiting to see what the deals are, if I can't get a 18 month contract for 36 a month with a free phone I'm gonna get a Sony Z for swmbo who regularly finds that water and phones don't mix and keep the s3 for myself lol.

For some reason the s4 doesn't excite me as the s2 and s3 did. Only have to wait a month to find out

I've been following this from the time the rumours starting coming and really looking forward to it.

The octo core will be available bit not on release as something to do with not being able to keep up with demand but eventually we will get the octo core.

As far as am aware three are doing the best deal and to top it off they are upgrading everyone to 4G free yes Free at the end of the year which is a bonus alone.

S4 sim free price is lolworthy.

Nexus 4 sim free, cant see past that price really. Total bargain.

I have had samsung gear too, swmbo got my Galaxy s2 and I got her s3, less than a week after getting the s2 it went down the toilet, luckily without any damage (rice really does work!) hence getting her the Z which is waterproof if I can't get the s4 on a 18 month contract lol

Yep, my boy did the same with his ACE, 1st day jumped in the swimming pool with it. Bowl of rice in the airing cupboard, worked a treat.

Yeh swmbo's on a 24 month contract but I've always managed to stay on a 18 month one, last one was the hardest as I wanted a s2, my bb broke a week before my upgrade and was gonna cancel my contract but after being on the phone for 2 hours with a customer service guy he finally found an 18 month contract with a free s2 for £30 a month lol

This time I've done my research and found the Z for £36 a month with everything I need on orange and know that o2 will match it, just hope they will have the same deal with the s4 lol

I'm with them as well and they do usually like a 'deal'.

I've been with O2 for 7years and I asked about them not doing unlimted data on any of the tariffs and they weren't having any of it so sadly am off to three anybody with them ??

I doubled checked yesterday and was told that the retention team will price match as long as you're an existing customer though I doubt they would match any deal that they don't do ie unlimited data

Not quite, the S4 is marginally better specced, however 280 quid simfree vs 600. :lol:

What's your thinking of the note 2 anyone got one??

My dad has one, basically a bigger s3 it is really big but I quite like it. Ment to have really good battery life by the looks of the reviews.

Hate the size of the HTC screen I'm using at the moment I use SwiftKey with a qwerty keyboard and keep missing the right letters, must be my fat fingers lol. Recon bigger the better lol

I'm with Three. Reasonable deals and goodish coverage (well as good as anyone else's!) and good if you use a lot of data. I've got my phone, the wife's and the eldest two kids, all on 3.

Having seen a dummy S4 in EE on Sunday, I personally wont be upgrading to it, from my S3.

The only difference i can see is that the screen is slightly tenny bit bigger, & having kept up with reports on Android Authority, I cant see it offering much more than my current phone for the price.

Despite the figures showing the european S4 being faster than the S3, it was reported in real world activity you wouldnt notice any difference, It really needs the next major version of Android on it to potentially utilise the addtional speed available.

Although looking at the new HTC One that my son has , HTC are trying to bury android behind the HTC interface, & I wouldnt be surprised if the S4 Samsung interface tries to bury android more than on the S3.

Lets see the S5 with the flexible OLED screen

Just seen that dialaphone is doing the s4 on a 18 month contract with orange, 600 mins, unlimited texts and 1gb data, plus 39 quid for the phone. Bummer for me as I told swmbo she could have my upgrade, thinking the s4 was way over my budget :( dunno if I can sweet talk her into letting me have the new one lol
