Feeler GB: Matt Black Elastic Spray 4x 400ml

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'll keep it short, I'm sure I'll edit this when I get more info.

Introduction

I have been looking into alternatives of this 'elastic spray' or "plasti-dip" because I think it's a little extortionate in the prices they charge over here.

Of lately, me and a friend (on the civic fn2 forums) found an alternative which seems to do a really good job.

He's tested on his set of wheels, currently he's messing around with peeling it off and re-patching methods. In total, he's had it on for 3-4 months and no signs of wear. I've seen it a few times over the months and I was impressed.

He's saved a few cans for me to have at it with mine, so I can personally give a hands on update when I can.

So, we were thinking of getting a big batch in to try on other things as well as wheels. Is anyone interested in trying some out too?

Details

Exactly the same way of application the branded products. Think we'll do a few YouTube how to's when it properly kicks off.

If you wanted to do wheels it'll probably need 4 cans to be on the safe side. Of course this can be for wheels or anything else you can think of..

Right,

If your interested I'll need a list.

At the moment I'm just gathering interest and see how many we can order.

Not taking money or anything like that yet. Purely to see interest.

We were thinking May time if it goes well.

1 set = x4 cans of Matt Black 400 ml spray for £40 posted in the UK.

Example:

1) JLneonhug, 1 set.

what colours can you get mate? I could be interested.

Matt black this time round, if this is successful then we can venture on other colours (we need the buying power first before we can haggle for cheaper colours).

Plasti dip will be back in stock soon and thats £10.99 a can :S

Is that posted?

Best I can find is £54 for 4 cans posted.

This is ~25% off an equivalent product I thought is a significant saving and worth going ahead with. :)

Like I said above though, once I have higher interest and better terms with the manufacturer I'm sure it can be made with more options.

Right now I'm just looking at who maybe interested in the idea of a cheaper alternative.

At £10 a wheel, even if you think it's more for protection of stone chips etc it's not a lot of money to throw at it. :D

£3.99 postage no matter how many cans you order. although i cant remember what i site i was looking at.

what make is this i have been investigating also but all mine lead me back to Plasti Dip as the rest seem to eat the paint work :S

We also read similar things but don't believe one brand worldwide is the only one who got it right. Hence done the leg work then got some samples in, tested and still testing it. like I said in first post its been on 3-4 months (that's including the snow and salts we had). We peeled off a couple of the wheels partially to experiment with patching, looking what's the condition underneath and how easy it was to actually peel.

Now we're wanting to do more stuff and asking if anyone would like to have a go as-well. The product is direct from the manufacturer so its not branded yet :)

Me babbling on isn't going to change the world of sceptics, I just need to get some pics but hes off on holiday, told him to send me some beforehand so I can get the ball rolling smoother :|. Thats why this is a 'feeler' atm because I understand without seeing anything its hard to commit.

id be interested but to be fair its useless to me as i need the Silver Metaliser to go with.

if you can get that aswell id happily help test

I also looked into that as-well but it loses its rubberised properties/features and becomes similar to normal paint after that has been applied. So, using normal paint to get the desired effect is my call if I wanted metallic/pearlescent/flake/gloss (as you'll have to pay for matt, then pay for metallic cans if you went plasti-dip). :)

nah plasti dip metaliser is rubber just like Plasti Dip. you can spray it direct to the metal and it still peels

Ah yes, I stand corrected, it was the gloss one I was looking at which made it difficult to peel :) However it still requires two cans per wheel which diminishes the cost effectiveness of the product over normal paint.

Whichever method you want to proceed...... Cant argue that Matt Black 4 cans for £40 posted is good!

Pictures? Videos?

You promised...

Best I can get right now is off his facebook. Hes on holiday this week :|

Will get some proper pics up when I next see him :)

Looks good gear, can you peel it of the tyre like plasti dip? I have two sets of spyders and was thinking of doing a set in black for winter use so this would be perfect.

I'm in!

  • Author

Yes it is peel-able, he's been experimenting with it to try patching techniques etc, hasn't had much time to perfect that yet but I'll give it a go when I get my hands on it. I've got a set of spiders waiting for me to attack it :D.

whats your email mate. i want to speak to you about a few things :)

PM'd,

Friend back from holiday but think he's hands full with catching up on job so he'll give me a buzz when he's available.

I'd be interested in 2 cans if possible?
