Octavia II Speaker Replacement Mounting Rings

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Looking to order MDF mounting rings for my Focal Utopia 6W2 Mids, quick question :-

How far out from the inner door skin can I space the drivers before they will hit the door card / speaker grill ?

Thinking of running a pair of 18mm thick ones screwed and glued, which would push the driver 36mm off of the inner skin and want to know if I will have enough clearance.

36mm will mean that the magnet will only protrude 39mm into the door.

Thanks.

Paul

how far does the oem one stick out? Im sure 18mm wont cause any issues. Is that 36mm including excursion of the mids? (6w2's...mmm :) )

Haven't taken the door cards off yet - was hoping to do a one hit job - so get the rings and everything ready, before talking the card off.

Yes I do like my mids - have a pair of L1Pro tweeters that I can run active if I want or use the TN52 tweeters and x-overs in the doors and run passive. Having looked at the door cable arrangement - I might have to stick with the OEM loom so ruling out running active with the tweeters in the door.

May put my amp rack on the back seats as although there is a nice alcove behind the NS rear wheel, it gets wet every time you open the hatch after rain. :wall:

it does paul, its a knightmare lol

I think matt added cables to his doors, ran them through the rubber gaitor linking the door and car iirc

I'll drop Matt an email then and ask him - in a strange coincidence I now him professionally as well -

Matt is using the OEM wiring into the doors with adapters.

So Tweeters may have to be in the A-Pillars, that or try and get some Mid wiring into the door and use the stock for the tweeters.

Think that this is going to be a last minute decision once I have the doors apart.

Ordered one of these to try http://www.minidsp.c.../2-x-in-4-x-out so far kit lists is :-

Columbus front speaker outs into a Audiocontrol LC2i with a Audiocontrol ACR-1 Remote Bass Control into the MiniDSP as an active x-over into an Alpine PDX 4-150 running the fronts active, the Bass channel of the LC2i will run my sub via an Alpine PDX 1-1000 sub is a JL Audio 10W3v2-D4 sub gain will be quite low and the 1K sub amp is a bit over the top for my SQ requirements, but I have it already.

Will be switching the equalization off in the Columbus - currently set for the A5 Octavia.

sounds like a good setup mate.

I will need to add cables for mine, 250wrms a side will be a bit much imo for stock wiring

You going to use the stock adapters or make some?

I'll buy some MDF ones - will probably glue a couple of 18mm to make a 36mm stand-off from the inner skin.

Been looking and there is an oval grommet in front of the door connector, the issue is though that the doors have 3 plug arrangements at the A-pillar and I don't think there is room to get any speaker cable there, the rubber tube has loads of space.

I'm toying with bring a cable out through the oval grommet and make a hole on the underside of the rubber tube to get the cable in, just need to make it neat and seal it in so that no water gets in. You'd see a short bit of speaker cable though.
