Swap battery, Key fob (KESSY)

Featured Replies

Hi,

As the battery in my key fob is running out (Kessy stopped working, and alarm every time I start up the car) I would need to swap the battery in the key fob.

But the manual tells me to contact dealer for the swap (seriously?!), and the dealer is 60 km from here ..

Has anyone successfully done this at home?

I've done it on my Audi, in and out in a couple of seconds and all was ok... that's with kessy

Surely it's the same as with the normal key? Pretty sure that's detailed in the owners manual, you just need to swap the battery quick once you've taken the cover off.

The owners manual sugests that you bring your key to the dealer, or try with a small screwdriver - but where is up the gods to know.. I've tried several times.

I guess its as easy as everything when you know how, but I dont want to apply force without knowing where..

can you post a pic of your key?

We will tell you where to seperate it then :)

Unfold the key, stick a coin in the slot where the key was and twist. Simples.

Anything to screw the customer for an extra load of cash.

BTW for reference what's the battery type, so I can buy a couple of spares, just in case.

CR2025 :)
I nearly earned some money, as my wife bet 1000 NOK that it would be CR2032 :P

Had the message yesterday, and KESSY stopped working, fitted new battery and all is OK again. It's good that although the KESSY does not work, the key still functions as a remote. Car was new in May 2014, so battery has lasted 8 months, but I am in/out of the car/boot numerous times throughout the day.

I have kessy on my current Passat (and on my vrs on order) andbthe battery in the fob of that lasted over 3 years. It maybe because i don't use it as often as you use yours.

I'll mention it at the next service, never had to change the battery on the Prius key, so maybe it's something that VW and Toyota do during the servicing?

can you fit a CR2032 in there? it would last longer (0.7mm/2.5mm ~= at least 33% more capacity) :)

so battery has lasted 8 months

I had to change mine the other day... so my battery only lasted just over 4 months :-(

I've fitted a duracell replacement, so hopefully it'll last a bit longer.

youtube  vw golf-vii tutorial:

I think if you re-read the manual, it refers to both batteries in the remote control and the boot removable light. It's the rechargeable battery in the latter they refer to contacting the dealer about. Certainly my manual gives guidance on changing the fob battery.

Just replaced the batteries in both my keys but only had 2032 batteries to hand but they do fit (they popup a bit when put in but once the cover is cliped back on pushess it in fine).

Both working no problems and I assume the 2032 batteries will last a bit longer (I got through the batteries in  both keys in 18 months).

It will be fine. I changed my battery yesterday, the display no longer shows anything.

Thnxh

If you have a Lidl near to you, keep an eye on the middle aisle, as you can sometimes find packets of  8 CR2025s for £2-3.

Yesterday I replaced the battery in one of the KESSY fobs on my 2016 vRS.   Now the remote function does not work, the red light does not even light up.   I checked the battery with a voltmeter and it is fine.   Anyone had this issue?

Sorry to ask the obvious question, but, have you put the battery in the right way around? And is it fitting against the contacts properly?
