1.4 ACT/COD TSI Engine - Skoda the odd one out?

Featured Replies

Whilst idly browsing (as I do from time to time), I see the Seat Leon now has the 1.4 150PS ACT Engine (only in FR trim) - I think that leaves only Skoda as the "odd one out" of the mainstream VAG brands to not get this engine.  Going on a like-for-like comparison, that "could" drop the Octavia 1.4 CO2 figures to sub-100g?  Doesn't make that much difference to private buyers, but for those of us for whom CO2 figures are king (company car drivers), it is a big difference.  At the moment, the difference in BIK value is virtually nil between an Octy SE (with very little in the options basket) and a Tech Pack Leon FR with LED headlights, Nav and a few other bits - despite a 3-4k higher list price.

Come on VAG - let Skoda have the ACT engine.  At the moment, I'm leaning towards the Leon as a result (especially as I found the O3 a little too big for my tastes).  Went and had a quick sit in a Leon at the weekend and I actually like the infotainment/nav unit being higher in the dash - seems much more intuitive.

Now - if there was a Fabia Monte with the ACT engine, that would certainly be on my radar!  None of the current engine range float my boat and I just don't like the Rapid (in either body style).

The 1.4TSI ACT is on the latest Superb, at least here in Italy.

Hmmm...perhaps the O3 will get it then - eventually.  MY16.5 update perhaps?

Really don't bother with it as the 140PS & (150PS  with or without ACT) are the same turbo, base engine etc, the only difference is the ACT cam gear on the top & ECU settings for Euro6.............I was waiting for an ACT, but decided I couldn't wait & got the car with the 140PS, .......TBH after the engines have run in & running mine on Shell nitro I would doubt you would be able to tell the difference, & in the long term it is one less thing to go wrong!

On the contrary, fabdavrav - the ACT gives ME a big advantage in terms of a lower CO2 figure, hence a lower company car tax bill.  I know the mid-range torque is the same across the 140/150/150+ACT engines and that extra 10PS will only be felt right at the end of the rev range.

Dropping one band (114g to 109g for example) saves me approx £90 a year on a like-for-like comparison in terms of list (or P11D) price.

I know that, but the difference is only the amount that the government currently set, they are edging towards ramping up the costs of the first three bands as so many cars now fall into those bands, so they lose money! I know my Golf is just into the band D & an ACT version would put it into the lower band.........but VW UK still don't allow a 150PS ACT (Germany yes) , but hey ho, private car anyway

Ah well, I ordered a Leon ST FR with the ACT (EcoTSI) engine instead.  It's also a bit smaller than the Octy (which I found a bit too big to be honest).  Maybe I could have hung back for a few weeks for the Superb, but that is even bigger still.

Sorry Skoda - not got my business this time (although it's still going into the same VAG pot).  Added bonus is the SEAT dealer is just over a mile from home, rather than the 30 minute trek to Skoda.  Also, I managed to get a lot more toys with the Leon - now to see how good these LED headlights are..

+1, I've ordered the same.

I should be getting mine in the next 3 weeks or so. I've test driven a Leon at night with the LED lights and I was impressed and that was comparing against an Octy mk2 FL with factory xenons.

What lead time have you been quoted?

Does the Leon with LEDs have any form for heating for the headlights?

Im really curious how full LEDs will perform in winterconditions. Im used to depending on the bulbs to generate enough heat to melt ice and snow while driving.

About 16 weeks - but 2 of that was shutdown and probably one week of that will be fitting the towbar and delivery from the lease company. Looking like middle/end of November for me.

16 weeks that sounds about the same as mine, I'll stick some pics up when it arrives.

LED lights and melting the ice, I don't think they have any form of heating, so lots of de-icer spray I guess.

That would be very unpractical..

Cant wait to see some test of full LEDs in arctic conditions. Really curious about how it will be.

I've no idea - never thought about it like that!

I did order the Winter Pack so get headlamp washers but it's not mandatory (unlike if you have HID headlamps).  Best keep the washer fluid up to strength.

LED headlights aren't totally new on cars, so I'm sure the problem has been fixed already - if it actually exists?  As far as I know, the Leon is the first car in its segment to offer them though.

I know the aftermarket ones for the defender blow the heat from the heat sinks forward onto the inside of the headlamp.

Not sure if seat do this, but I wouldn't be surprised.

There's quite a lot of heat to dissipate with LEDs still.

Hopefully it isnt a problem. Im just curious how it solved and works in real life.

The mercedes e-class with led rearlights has a problem with snow in the winter. They clog up quite fast and the car becomes invisible from behind.
