Skoda 2017 - Facelift

Recommended Posts

Why would be Skoda do so fast the facelift ?

We all we all know that Volkswagen Group decided to stop promoting its VW cars (because of diesel gate) and focuses on its other brands.

They also may want to fix quickly the problems the car has :

Improved sound-proofing (wasn't this fixed with 2016 update ?)

Fixing the suspension with a self-levelling rear suspension (Nivomat is really exceptionally good)

Does Skoda Superb really has a maximum payload of 620/675/705 KG for the normal car and 640/685/715 KG for the combi ?

Quite minor changes by the looks of it but still a little earlier than you would expect for an official faclift.  Probably more a fix for some of the common issues that appear to have arisen and also an effort to keep up with the latest models being launched - the new Kodiaq, revised Octavia etc.  Perhaps, Skoda are adopting a policy (similar to Mercedes a few years back) where they will make fewer dramatic changes from one model to the next and keep the car from dating too much (unlike the last version).  This would mean addressing issues by way of more frequent model year updates.

Payload sounds about right - taking the driver and fuel tank @90% weights out as they are included already. It's a car not a truck. 4 passengers and luggage would still be well below the plated weights unless you want to carry something unusual. You can still tow another 2+ tonnes as well.

It's because the first batch of Superbs were rubbish. They had so many problems. Rattles. Poor trim. Noisy DSG etc etc and so many people complained and were unhappy that Skoda decided to make so many changes and rush out the facelift.

'Some say' the facelift will be what the first Superb should have been and the early adopters will be supplied with a length of rope, from Skoda, to hang themselves ......

I feel the first MY16 cars where a case of design A and if these are successful we will switch to design B in terms of trim spec etc..

As per the improvements with build, this is understandable with any new product to market.

Hahaha !!!

All facelifts follow the Skoda Vision C prototype direction : http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/concepts/visionc

So more work is done to reach the concept in terms of design.

Fortunately i can wait for the facelift because the many problems made me not want to buy the car this autumn.

It seems they are face-lifting all the lineup from Rapid, Fabia, Octavia and the Superb in 2017.

I wish they use the Nivomat suspension as standard after the facelift.

It's obvious the car needs some serious internal fixing not only new design on the exterior before i consider buying it. Hope they wake up because i really liked the car.

How is the standard suspension on the Skoda Superb right now ?

True, true.... I rue the day I purchased mine. Hate it. Facelift will be 100% better without a doubt. As soon as it's released I'll be chopping mine in. Just the heated steering wheel will make it a  worthwhile swap in my honest opinion.

I can understand why you didn't want to buy the first batch after so many people on these very forums are unhappy with their cars. Probably 95% I would estimate...

You've had a lucky escape.... Good for you !

Lucky indeed. Very good forum. I am actually going to do a new test drive with the current Combi version because on the standard version in the back if you are like me at 178-179 cm (but probably this happens even at slightly lower heights) and you want to stay absolutely upright in the seat you hit with the head the ceiling all the time, with the car standing still !

This probably won't happen in the Combi Superb because in the Octavia Combi doesn't happen either.

In my opinion i find this problem to be a very bad design for the Superb Hatchback.

For the facelift of Superb in 2017 is the VW Group / Skoda aware of the internal problems that people presented on this forum ?

I mean i suppose they gain information about the issues a car has from the people that complain to the dealers for repairs ?

Yes I accept brand new model can have some issues in first manufacturing year, but Škoda can't charge consumers for that.

aren't awesome answers from head of Škoda Auto

to me:

Dear Mr. B,

we have received your next e-mail, addressed to Mr. Bernhard Maier, Chairman of ŠKODA Board of Directors.

We understand your emotions and we regret that you don´t agree with our statement.

In terms of factual matters we have to claim, that the conditions for using of our products are described in the owner´s manual to SKODA vehicles. These are mandatory for our customers. If some defect occurs, caused by improper using, by mechanical damage of the vehicle or its part or by using of disapproved cleaning agents, this defect is taken out of the warranty.

An individual examination of the defect and its cause is in full responsibility of the importer and the SKODA service partner.

Dear Mr. B, we are very sorry, but we can´t provide you with more assistance in this matter.

Best regards

to DeerJohn:

Dear Mr. B,

Thank you for your letter of 12th of October 2016 addressed to Mr. Bernhard Maier, Chairman of ŠKODA Board of Directors.

We would like to inform you that Mr. Bernhard Maier is familiar with your case and based on the nature of the matter, he

entrusted our Customer Care department to review the matter and respond to letter.

We regret to learn about your dissatisfaction with your SKODA Superb 2.0 TSI purchased on 19th of November 2015. We would like

to assure you that SKODA Auto manufacturer is conscious of its responsibility for high quality and reliability of their vehicles

and we do our best to meeting our customer's expectations.

From our exclusive representative in Latvia (Karlo Motors Ltd.) we have requested the detailed report on the controls of your

car carried on your car in terms of the noise from the front part of the car when over undulations. Our technicians also had

watched the video to which you are referring in your letter.

We came to conclusion that the respective noise does not have a nature of the manufacturing defect but is the standard

phenomenon associated with the gearbox type when the vehicle is driving in nonstandard conditions, in this case when the car is

occasionally crossing over the undulations. Please understand that the model Superb is designed as limousine car and nonstandard

off road driving can induce some nonstandard phenomenons that do not appear in normal operation of the car.

For that reason, we cannot provide a technical solution because this noise coming during the off road driving is not considered

to be a fault.

We hope for your understanding.

Yours faithfully,

Got mine on December 1st last year, would that be considered an early car?

Have had no problems whatsoever, no rattles, no trim falling off, no noise from the suspension etc etc.

The windscreen washers were a bit weak but this has now been fixed on the first service.

The car is perfect and will be trading in for another when the lease expires but only because I will have to and will by then want another new car.

I had a couple of teething problems with mine, sat navigation surround ,weak washers and a rattly exhaust, was touching a heat shield, all quickly repaired and has been faultless and a dream to own since the first month

,being one year and 15000 miles old it's an early build car I'm happy with that, maybe I was lucky,or is it a few were unlucky!had an audi a8 3.0 that was built 5 years after introduction and was plagued with faults and that was 60k new, luck of the draw.kevin.

It would be interesting to see a Skoda Superb Crossover/SUV with enough height (Ground Clearance) so you can go to places where the normal Skoda Superb would hit the ground.

I mean 25 - 30 cm (250 - 300mm) since the car is long would be amazing.

http://www.biznews.com/motoring/2016/04/04/suvs-whos-got-highest-ground-clearance/

Also a suspension such as the Nivomat would be fantastic !

Is there an option right now for such a suspension ?

Skoda Superb has 161 mm for TSI and 149 mm for TDI.

This is too low and i can confirm you can hit rocks on almost any bump or tiny slopes extremely easy.

The Skoda Octavia Scout had 171 mm.

250 mm would have been similar to the VW Tuareg 241 mm.

The Kodiak ground clearance is small and it means it is made to be used for normal roads.

So i wonder what is the scope of Kodiak if it is only a 2 cm higher sedan.

I wonder where the mass of people complaining about the Superb are.  I agree with Philsmith, I have had mine since February and it has been perfect, no squeaks, rattles, rolls and after the problems of getting it I'm a very happy bunny.  I have also spoken to several owners in car parks etc. and I've never met a dissatisfied owner.

Any news regarding what they did change in the 2017 Superb model ?

Also when is the new facelift coming (September 2017 ? early 2018 ?),

And what other problems the current batch of Skoda Superb has ?

Right now i must decide between the facelift version of Octavia III and the 2017 Superb, but if there are still problems, Skoda will only fix them at facelift time, like they did with the Octavia III by incresing the space between wheels so the car stays better on the road.

Thank you.

I have to ask who all these people are who are having problems with the Mk3 Superb. I have not had any problems so far with my car. My only grumbles have been the screen wash jets- easily fixed, and the pathetic politically correct and confusing way that instructions are given by the sat nav. I have yet to meet any owner who has had problems with their car.

No show stoppers.... few rattles due to bad / unforeseen design. Rear disc corrosion / wear on some models. Poor washer jets.... have to say even though mine have been done they didn't bother me before. Trim around doors fixed .... Early probs with bushing on cars with DCC.

Some have no probs at all.... I have a few rattles... Dash has started to make a noise when cold but seems to stop after a few minutes. Seems to be a common one.

My intention is to keep the car well after the 5 year warranty period so I'll do my best to get these rattles sorted under warranty when suits. Trouble is with the roads around Sheffield even a JCB would be hard pushed.
