  1. I have a similar issue on my 2010 1.4tsi Octavia Mk 2 with DSG 7. I start the car. Move the selector to D. On the screen D flashes. Pressing the accelerator slightly revs the engine, but not to the extent that it would in neutral. I move the selector to N, then back to D. The screen shows D1 and the car is in drive as normal. Only happens occasionally. Mileage is 84k. Car is serviced every 12 months. Only doing about 6k a year. Popped a video on YouTube at in case anyone is interested. Mechatronic on the way out? Should I try to find someone with VCDS? Advice very welcome. Thank you.
  2. I actually wish I'd looked after it more. It's been serviced annually despite doing less than 6,000 miles a year. And I always do what's needed mechanically. Just starting to think I should have looked after the paint a bit better, as its never seen a clay bar or even wax. Mulling over whether to spend a bit on tidying up the chips and scratches, and getting the front bumper resprayed. I got aftermarket front parking sensors which were removed free of charge by the monkeys at Longleat Safari Park! It's very much the family car so putting the vacuum round the inside has value for all of 5 seconds before the kids get back in it.
  3. Just in case anyone is interested, my 2010 Mk2 Octavia 1.4 Tsi is now over 80,000 miles and 13 years without changing the chain.
  4. With something of a sense of guilt, given everyone's kind efforts, I'm popping back to say that I still haven't changed the car. The worrying noises coming from the Mk2 turned out to be a (somewhat dangling) water pump. With that sorted it's really hard to find a reason to get rid of this car. Despite being 13 years old, it's incredibly reliable, it's regularly giving me over 45 mpg, it takes whatever loads you throw at, the cabin is actually really nice (I'm still obsessed with the fact that the Mk3 loses the door card fabric and the right foot rest). I still think that when it dies it will get replaced by a Mk3 (so the advice remains helpful). But with the cost of every being so high currently, even 'man maths' can't make me part with a great car for something largely unknown. I was such a car guy. I never imagined I'd keep a car for over a decade!
  5. Quick update. The water pump was "hanging off". Hence noise and coolant loss. Fixed for £270 at a great independent specialist. Car feels great. Obviously a different issue. Apologies!
  6. That's interesting. There's quite a bit on here about it affecting the Superb Mk3 from 2017 onwards. And it seems to affect cars across the while VW group. Strange if the Mk3 Octy escaped it. Will do some more hunting to look for examples.
  7. People, this is amazing 👏 thank you. I hope it helps others as well. Interesting that nobody raised concerns about the SOS issue. Perhaps I'm worrying unnecessarily about that.
  8. Hi All Thinking about replacing my 2010 Mk2 Octavia Elegance Estate 1.4TSI DSG in the near future (not that I particularly want to). The natural choice is the Mk3 Estate 1.4TSI/1.5TSI ACT. I bought the Mk2 for under £11k at 3 years old with 26k on the clock. I appreciate prices have changed a bit since then but I'm not desperate to empty the silver cabinet on this. The current car is still only at 79k and we only do about 6k a year now. I am pretty set on sticking with an an Octavia Estate. It has to be DSG. Definitely petrol. Doesn't need to be powerful/sporty. Efficiency is great. I'm assuming the 1.4/1.5 TSI though I note that the Mk3 engines are more powerful. Needs cruise control (adaptive would be great). I think I am in the territory of 2016-2019, 1.0 to 1.4, SE/SEL, maybe 30k-40k miles on the clock. What is the 'sweet spot' in the Mark 3? What should I avoid? SOS and other software issues My main concern is the VW group SOS and other software problems. My sister recently bought a 2021 Kamiq and loved the car but it had to go back - the infotainment system just constantly died due to SOS. She's now in a Ford. I am wondering whether I should target a 2016/17 car before the SOS was installed. There are so many horror stories it makes sticking with Skoda feel like a brave move. Facelift? Does the 3.5 facelift improve much? While seeming more modern than the Mk2, the one Mk3 I've been in seemed to have a more plasticky cabin than the Mk2 Elegance. I strangely appreciate the cloth in the door cards! Engine choice Engine wise, I've read some things to suggest that the early Mk3 1.4 TSI is a better choice than the 1.5TSI that replaced it. Also, I appreciate the 1.4/1.5 TSIs are 150 bhp. Perhaps the 1.2/1.0 TSI engines are a fairer replacement for my 120 bhp Mk 2? Grateful for any thoughts.
  9. Hi All I'm a bit concerned about the sounds coming from my 2010 Octavia 1.4TSI DSG (79k) and wondering if its timing chain / tensioner. I know it's not the quietest of engines but I've had the car 10 years and I'm sure there is a metallic, scraping sound that is new. I videoed it this morning both cold and after the engine had warmed, engine bay closed, window open. The car does a lot very short journeys in the morning, that leave the engine only just warmed by the end of the trip (school run). I also recently noticed a rapidly reduced coolant level, which I assume is a separate issue but I mention in case its relevant. Grateful for any thoughts. Thanks
  10. A couple of days ago, when winding the offside rear electric window up, it squeaked loudly up into position, then wound itself down a bit again. This happened a couple of times but it eventually went back into place. I should have left it... ...but forgot and put the windows down again the next day. The window pane did not align properly and ultimately ended up at the angle shown in the attached picture. The kids were not impressed with the window rattling and threatening to fall out on the M25. As you can probably see from the picture, the window almost lifted completely out at the front, while cutting slightly into the rubber sill at the back. Once stationary, I was able to let the window down, then back up (reseating the window into the rubber seal and applying pressure to window as it rose). Does this mean the motor/regulator is ok? Looking at the YouTube videos I get the sense that it is beyond me (why is there is a riveted internal panel in the door that need drilling out?!). Just looking to see if anyone has had the same experience and might know what the issue is? I read something about a known issue on the Octavia around plastic locator dowels breaking, and there is a cable that snaps as well. Grateful for any thoughts.
  11. Yes, I should have mentioned, I used oil rather than silicone having seen advice as per the above. That may be be difference. I didn't have solvent/cleaner. But I will do this if it reoccurs.
  12. I've left it as is. Seems to be working fine so far. It's had very slightly more use. I'm hoping that's helping. At the same time I downloaded to auto doc app and remain tempted by a replacement. Are we definitely taking about the same part? It was over £400 to replace mine at RRP. Even on the auto doc app with the current 35% sale it is £145.
  13. I appreciate your concern. As I said, I'm thinking about what I'd do if it fails again. I'm also thinking about when the current situation changes and the car is used for long distance drives.
  14. Cheers. Now I know how accessible it is, I'll just see how it goes. If it packs it for a third time, I'll get a replacement. Still in two minds about OEM Valeo vs a non OEM. Euro Car Parts has up to 45% off until end of today (I appreciate they are not strangers to sales). But still, it's a big saving Valeo at Euro Car Parts £276 EIS at Euro Car Parts £128 Then again, I think this is same part? Valeo at Buy Car Parts £160 If so, that's a huge bargain versus the £420 dealer price!
  15. Thanks again. Having read that thread, I was in two minds about repair vs replace. Seems repairs don't always last too long. I decided to pull it all out and have a look. I followed this video to remove the unit, with the exception that I found there was no need to remove the glove box, and the air flow pipes only need pulling back slightly. I took the control module off, then used a small flat screw driver to pry the three rubber clips back to remove the back housing. I cleaned it out as best I could with no compressed air or anything. There was quite a bit of dust when I bashed it a bit. Even found a small leaf in there! I placed some oil on each end of the spindle and gave each end a few whacks with a mallet. I don't know how to strip it any further, so that was the best I could do. The fan then rotated more freely, though I don't know what normal is for reference. I reinstalled it (again very easy). I have airflow! Not sure how long it will last. Are there any videos / guides on stripping the fan further and cleaning or replacing bushes? Thanks.
