  1. The vehicle status screen on the Columbus display of my vRS is showing an image of the steering wheel/column ghosted into the image of the car (i.e. highlighting it as if there's a problem with it). Can't find anything in the Owners Manual for the car or Columbus Infotainment Manual that explains what this means... and nothing that I can find on the internet either. Anybody got any ideas before I venture to my local stealers service department?

  3. Yup... ET30 is quite an extreme offset... 21mm further out than the standard (ET51), plus an extra 12.71mm as a result of the increase from 7.5J to 8.5J, total 33.71mm!
  4. Herein the problem may lay... My previous vehicle, which I sold after just 9 months because it was one of the worst quality pieces of $h1t I've ever owned, and I absolutely hated the fact it sounded like a knackered Kazakhstani tractor with a hole in the exhaust, was a Kia Sportage 2.0CRDi... but here's the kicker... immediately before that I'd spent the previous 3 years driving a 2010 Audi Q7 S-Line 3.0TDi V6... which (to use your words) was also silky smooth, sounded beautiful, and was near indiscernible as a diesel! Maybe it's just that we develop some sort of 'reference' by which we judge all others following  !
  5. I know exactly what you're talking about. Something that annoys me about my car (which I've posted about previously).. engine sounds very unrefined (CUPA 2.0TDi CR EU5 MY2015). It is of course worse when cold, but even when up to temperature if I'm stopped next to something tall and solid that bounces the sound back (a wall or large truck) the clacking noise is very apparent. Hard acceleration is very unpleasant as it sounds like I'm screaming the nuts off an old normally aspirated Mercedes diesel (and I'd go so far as to say Massey Ferguson tractor if their rev range went as high), not something with an advanced common rail injection turbo powered unit. Don't understand as to why, as the Golf GTD, Audi A3 and A4 with the same engine sound far more refined, so maybe it's something to do with the resonance of the engine bay.
  6. Unfortunately, attempting to refer to any specific group (people with children in this case), whether that group contains in this instance either responsible or irresponsible parents, is always going to appear to be 'tarnishing everyone with the same brush'... so please refer to my following post (no. 78) in this respect. Getting into or out of any car in a typical parking space (worse of course if it's the back seat) is difficult whether it's a carry seat or a full grown 6 foot plus adult you're trying to manoeuvre... so again the kids and all the inconvenience that may accompany them all the way through to adulthood is a life choice made by the parent(s) and a responsibility for them to bear, difficult or otherwise, as life is. Overweight people (excluding those overweight for genuine medical reasons) are generally such because of their life choice, they like to eat a lot and exercise little... and please let's not start going off on one over this... but they don't get 'special' parking spaces or believe they have some right to a concession (unless they hold a disabled badge) and have to get in and out of their cars in normal spaces just like everyone else. I am of course aware that some parents hold strong values and do everything they can to instill these into their offspring, and in a continually deteriorating society in which people seem to be becoming less responsible for even the most basic of their actions (usually due of course to 'extenuating' circumstances), I'm very glad of it, and to hear when people are quick to establish that they do in fact hold these values and have no wish to be included as part of a particular (maligned) group... so again, if you have brought your kids up to 'respect other people and their property', then my comments will not apply to you and you should not feel 'offended'. The fact, however, that you 'hope and pray' that by some means my "pride and joy" gets damaged whilst parked in a parent and child space just because of my arrogance (i.e. opinion) on the subject, does lead me to question as to your method of teaching 'respect' for 'other people and their property'... I rest my case .
  7. That's exactly the point (with regards to kids)... they do need to learn, but hopefully of course not at the expense of someone else's cherished vehicle! Your parenting skills (and I obviously I don't know you, but from what you have written) are obviously way above the norm IMHO, and you have values  so I applaud you for that - and your kids will likely inherit those values... we just need more people who feel and act the same, and that's something that's sadly in decline in today's society (as many others posting on this topic have mentioned). That aside... it's not just kids of course (so not trying to single them out as the only culprits) as there are many instances where the parents are just as bad and that doesn't help in the education of respect for other peoples properties... but it's also the old banger driver, the teenagers, the van load of migrant workers (and that's not a racist comment) that turn up in the battered Transit/LDV minibus on a Friday (generally when they know the 'reduced to clear' stuff has been down-priced as their basic wage doesn't cover any extravagances)... so anyone with kids, don't get offended thinking I've got something against you... just the 'Mother and Child' concession! Spread the teaching! I wholly agreed, but the odds at least with a bit more door flinging space can be slightly better!
  8. I know this one's gonna spark a few comments off... I often park in 'Parent & Child' spaces when I visit the supermarket... and I don't have sprogs, or my mother with me... generally just the wife. Having kids is a responsibility and not a right, and as the old saying goes... 'if you're fit enough to breed, you're fit enough to walk' [across a car park]. Why the hell should I have to make concessions for someone else's personal 'life choice', in this case, at the expense of getting something I've worked hard to pay for dinged, because the other available parking spaces are too damn small to fit even a Ford Ka comfortably? It's already bad enough that people who continually spit out enough kids to create a small football team keep getting handouts, child benefits, allowances and other concessions at the expense of the taxpayer and general public for their decision, generally without financial consideration, to do so... I'd like a Lamborghini or McLaren F1 as a life choice, but I don't have one because I can't afford it, and I don't go out and just buy one anyway and then expect the taxpayer to help me pay for it... or (to the point) expect that if do buy one I'll get a special parking space at the local supermarket. In a society where we're bombarded on a daily basis with the politically correct notion that we shouldn't discriminate against people for things like, specifically, race, colour or disability - i.e. things people DON'T have control of at the time of birth, why the hell should people who choose to breed be given some sort of preference as a result of a situation in which they exist of their own personal volition... as if this is expanded you might as well have a whole range of other 'minority' or 'life choice' specific parking bays for things like (for example) dog and cat owners! I personally find people with kids have without doubt the least respect for other people's property as the only thing they are concerned about is their kids, and this is not my cross to bear in any, way shape or form. And before anybody overreacts because they haven't read (or understood) the above properly... I don't park in disabled bays - these are for people whose situation is not a life choice and their need is genuine. So basically, mother and child parking - fair game as far as I'm concerned if it means my little pride and joy (i.e. my car) get's saved from the brutality and carelessness of others!
  9. Just having a scan through my old brochures, and the catalogue that was current at the time of ordering my car in December 2013 (Edition: UK 10/13) states under 'Safety & Security' on the pricing page of the Octavia vRS '17" front disc brakes'... which is interesting as that's 432mm!?! In the following issue brochure (Edition: UK 05/14) that was current at the time of my car's actual manufacture in early June 2014 (one of the first MY2015 cars) this ceased to appear. Mine (being a MY2015 TDi) does of course have the lovely wheel filling 340mm discs (more so as at the time of ordering the Gemini 18" wheel was the only option... the 19" Xtreme not being available until some months later in the UK spec list). Bit of useless information really as doesn't really make any difference to the situation to which this thread relates... but just thought I'd mention it! Edit: And I can see both sides of the argument here... will the smaller brakes be adequate and the car still stop - yes... would it pi$$ me off if I'd been expecting the bigger brakes (so I could wave my willy at anyone with a smaller one) - quite probably yes!
  10. As quite a few have now said... dash cam! I have them in every car I own and every car I've previously owned for the past 6 years and wouldn't drive without them. Mine are actually Sanyo VPC-SH1 full HD video cameras like the ones you take the cheesy holiday or family Christmas videos on (but are pretty small and slimline) on Delkin Fat Gecko mounts. I prefer these types of cameras as I've got up to a 6-9 hour continuous recording ability with a good sized memory card (depending on quality chosen, but even the lowest being HD just at a lower frame rate) and no low light or sun glare issues thanks to the quality lens filters, plus full HQ audio, so they're superb for catching the car park pr&ts (just always make sure you reverse into the spot and you'll always catch the culprits). Catch one b&st&rd with these things and they'll pay for themselves 5-10 times over at least. I've had two incidents, one where someone flung a door open into my vRS (while I was actually in the vicinity and saw them do it from a distance) but when questioned played dumb and denied it but very quickly changed their mind when the camera was pointed out (footage of them pulling into the spot next to me followed shortly after by the sound of their door hitting my car followed by a brief low level expletive), and another when a not-so-yummy mummy with her mindset obviously on her failed medical experiments in the back of the half-scale London bus her husband had mistakenly bought her thinking she'd be able to drive it, came round a corner some 12-15 inches over the white line, forcing my pristine condition 12 month old Audi Q7 S-Line into the kerb... and the 21" diamond cut OEM wheels on those things are £1125 a piece excluding tax + £325-375 a tyre... so her insurance took a hit for that one. The other benefit of a dash cam is for when you leave your car with the dealer for it's annual service... and that's nearly always priceless footage... especially when the blissfully unaware 'technician' (definition: neanderthal) that's just spent some 15 minutes staring aimlessly at the front of the car (obviously the 'visual check') while hacking, coughing, spitting and picking his nose, and then a further 15-20 minutes farting into your nice leather interior and checking out the contents of your glove box, armrest storage and music collection while waiting for the VAS diagnostics to run their course and upload any software changes (whilst not forgetting to critique your musical taste to any of the other 'techs' that happen to stumble, swing, hobble or shuffle past the window on their way to exercise their bodily functions in someone else's car), suddenly sees the camera and realises the last 30-40 minutes of his otherwise pointless existence has just been captured in full HD video and HQ audio quality!
  11. image.jpeg As with rob_e... not usually a fan of red on cars... but have to admit that looks 'chilli' hot! Get the feeling your gonna be spending a lot of time with a bucket, sponge and polishing cloth this summer!
  12. Hi. With thanks to all that responded. This item has now been SOLD.
  13. Hi, thanks for that. I'll keep posted whatever happens in this thread, and if still available it's obviously yours!
  14. Funnily enough I did this with mine as I had a load of CR2032's spare, and as Orville mentioned, they're slightly thicker (the first two numbers i.e. '20' being the diameter and the latter two numbers being the thickness, so '25' being 2.5mm thick and '32' being 3.2mm thick), but apart from a little more pressure being required to push the contact spring down and close the cover, it's fine and has worked without issue! Especially good as you can get packs of 10 x CR2032's, which are generally always in the lighting section, for a couple of quid from well known Swedish flat pack furniture store (begins with an 'I' and ends with an 'A' and it's got 'KE' in the middle - just in case advertising is frowned upon by the moderators), which I think I can safely say will no doubt be a lot cheaper than buying from a dealer!
  15. Same 7.5J and offset as the 18" Gemini's as far as I'm aware, and the Extreme's just have a lower profile tyre being 19", but rolling radius and overall width/diameter are same (the Extreme's just look better but weren't an option when I specced mine)!
