  1. These figures seem worryingly low. I have a Superb 1st generation 1.9 tdi 130 bhp and get 600 miles plus per tank with a 57 or 58 l refill. Shows 50 plus on average but often exceeds 60 mpg indicated. Best figure displayed 72 mpg.
  2. Dave Superb Comfort 130 TDi 55 Plate Sahara Beige Fareham Hampshire And when I am a good boy I get to hack arround in my wife's Fabia VRS SE 902
  3. Thanks have had an independant garage recomended to me so they may be getting my business from now on. I am registered disabled and that is noted on my file with the dealer so was not impressed with their atttude. That I could live with this until late next week. They did not even suggest any cause or that it may not be serious.
  4. I really need more practice with searching the threads. It never seems to turn up anything of relevance for me. I either get nothing or hundreds that are not anything to do with what I am looking for. Similar posts under ths thread show it is most likely the brake light switch and as I recently have had problems with the brake lights staying on after I park the car it is a good bet. Cheers Dave
  5. Today after driving for a few minutes on the way back to the office after a brief lunch break I had an engine warning. I slowed for the roundabout and possibly should have changed down as the engine was labouring a bit but there was a gap on the roundabout so I booted it. The glow plug warning light started flashing and a message appeared on the instrument panel Engine Workshop (Engine Fault - Workshop). Page 32 of the owners manual states it is a problem with the engine control system and the engine will adopt an emergency program - while you should adopt a gentle driving style. The Skoda stealer was really unhelpful and told me they may be able to get it on the diagnostic machine late next week as they are fully booked. I guess any garage with a reader should be able to check this out? I drove home this evening and the message has gone and all seems normal like it has reset itself. Are my suspicions that it was due to the engine labouring founded, should I still get it checked and can it reset itself? What is the most likely culprit if my suspicions are not founded? Cheers in advance. Dave
  6. Thanks for replies. System was regassed twice last year and loathe to spend more money on it if it just all keep leaking out.. Guess I was spoiled as only other air conditioning I have used was on wifes previous car a 206 which would turn you into an icicle in about 5 minutes but the penalty was you could see the fuel dropping like a stone. Her Fabia VRS Special Edition is better than my Superb but guess the Passat aircon in a car as big as the Superb is a valid point. Glad to hear others have experienced brief hissing when the engine is shut off so it is not just mine. I do try to remember to run mine once per month as that has been recommended before to me. Just find it strange that the system should require regassing every year. I think I may get an independant specialist to check it out and regass it. I think I have a UV light so may have a quick look to see if the gas with dye has leaked where suggested.
  7. Use a lubricant with an addative such as WD40 with PTFE or silicone or graphite. When the WD40 carrier evapourates dries out the addative continues to provide friction reduction. The graphite addative is great for lock mechanisms and is used by double glasing repairers on the lock mechanism / sliders.
  8. Still learning about the Superb but on older cars I have had it has been poor earth point cause wierd problems like this.
  9. I am not sure if it is just me but before I spend anymore money on it looking for other owners thought. I think the climate control in my Superb is really lame. Last year went to have it regassed by Kwik Fit and they said they could not as no pressure in the system at all and had to take it to dealer. Dealer uses a mobile specialist who regassed it and did dye test but could find no leak. Not really any better after it was done so took it back and got charged again as outside contractor said nothing wrong with it. Dealer has been in car and said it operates as he would expect it to. I can not tell the difference between it operating in Auto or economy so do not believe it is working correctly. Definately not as it was on year 1 of ownership. I spoke with Simon at the show as I get a hissing if it has been in auto when I turn off the engine. I have heard it said it iss the gas escaping but dealer says split system and it is just the gas equalising between the two sides. Any thought much appreciated. Thanks Dave
  10. Have noticed of late that the brake lights stick on on my Superb (not every time). Pip tells me it happened as I left the super rally at Gaydon as well. Have hung upside down in the foot well but not able to see where the switch is. Before I go hamfisting my way to where I suspect the switch is can anyone confirm it is above the pedal linkage in the footwell and what i the easiest way to get at it? Cheers Dave
  11. Managed to swing the day off work. Got the boss to cover, shame she does not really know how to do the job but who cares. Will be turning up in my stock Superb 1.9 TDi Comfort and wife is planning on coming in her car Fabia VRS Special (my weekend play toy when I can prise the keys off her). Look forward to meeting many of you. Dave
  12. Hi, Tried to finally introduce myself the other day but kept getting errors and finally found out the server was being rebooted so kept dumping my posting. I have been lurking on the list for a couple of years since I discovered it when I was doing research for replacing my aged Puegeot 405 GLDt. It came down to a choice between 2 cars a Peugeot 407 and the Superb. Apart from in my view the Superb blew the 407 out of the water in so many areas the Peugeot dealer shot himself in the foot but that is another story. I went for the Superb 1.9 TDi in Sahara Beige with an Ivory interior and have not regretted one moment since. My Superb has just hit a really sweet spot and seems to be returning more MPG than before. Just done a run Portsmouth to Chester about a week ago to collect daughter from university and on the way back the car was packed boot and back seat to the top. Also had enough fuel to run about for about a week after work etc... Last tank returned 714.3 miles and took 57 litres to refill. I work that out to be 55.8 MPG. Travelled back down A34 most of the way in the company of a nice FabiA vrs Special think the reg was OY 07 FEM. I may have been lucky but seem to have not a bad local dealer. Skoda seems dominant in our family my wife has a Fabia VRS Special edition, sister an Octavia 1.9 Elegance estate and just got my sister in law in to a very low milage 08 Roomster 3. Her car of choice she previously had a Felecia but had changed to a Hyundai Trajet as she needed the extra seating but is glad to be back in a Skoda. Have not convinced my kids yet. Just seen the post on the super rally 12th July and am frantically trying to book holiday / swap shifts so I can come along - hopefully can convince my wife to come along with her VRS (my weekend play toy when I can get it off her). Happy motoring. Dave
  13. Thanks for the feedback. I need to check with my local dealer if this affects my Superb as well. Expecting the variable service to flash up a request soom anyway. Regards Dave
  14. Mines 3 1/2 years and touchwood no problem with failed sensors but do think the beep from them is getting quieter or I'm going deaf!
