5 speed to 6 speed gearbox swap
badgelock replied to badgelock's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
yerp did read that one a while back ta, was hoping to have it confirmed maybe? my google skills arent that shocking haha. and any thoughts on clutch, the more i compare listings from darkside and other places im thinking i need a whole new set up. balls, may well put up with the wearing bearing for tadge longer. -
Hi, Has anybody done the 5 speed to 6 speed box swap? My diff bearing in my 5speed has finally started to grind. as i've also reached the limits of this box, won't quite stretch to 150mph i decided to go for a long ratio 6 speed. with the intention of dropping a quaife in before fitting it all up. Now i know i need the vrs driveshafts, gear linkage etc (and starter motor). Im pretty convinced the mounts are going to be the same, as ive already uprated my mounts with vibratechnics for a vrs. but searching forums and posts and all the depths of the internets ive seen mention of the subframe being different, and some sort of plate as well? is this people getting confused and speaking of removing the subframe, and the driveshaft cup in order to make removal easier? Finally ive only recently fitted my 6th clutch, a sachs sre paddle, ive heard of people running these in the vrs too, any ideas if i can do something to keep my current clutch n fly setup? honestly been searching google, google google and the forums and cant find much at all, and dont fancy dropping my box and finding ive not got all the bits to bolt the new one in. Thanks in advance.

if its come off the vauxhall it'll have a different manifold. have you got the one for your car or the vauxhall? iirc the vauxhall exhaust ports are similar to the 2.0 16v tdi, in that they are on an angle, whereas ours are all vertical ovals. is your manifold one piece to the shell, or is it bolt on /off? if its a bolt on manifold you might be able to use a passat manifold to mate it to yours. upload a pic to your profile gallery, and then you can put in here. easiest way ive found.

http://www.venommotorsport.com//manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=KW&category=Suspension&product=FrontCSMounts an option. http://www.k-mac.com/pages/newprods/vw/vw.htm another option. but your wallet is gonna feel it.

avoid avoid avoid. i thought what the hell take a chance. box has been out 5 times, literally smashed one of the carbon kevlar "vr6" clutches, had pieces in the gearbox and everywhere. alot of threats later and they sent me a genuine looking sachs sre clutch, but refused to replace the pressure plate, which has warped 3 fingers, its now slipping after 2 months. save the hassle and do it properly first time. Larkspeed have a cool kit, and so do darkside, they are also cheaper than others. btw this is all 5 speed box related, but should still be applicable. STEER CLEAR WHILE YOU CAN.

i reckon its got more to give, but left it there as the injectors were being pushed. went with the 1756 for the instant spool, its soo good. unless youve got bigger nozzles ready to go on i'd stay with the 1756. 2260 wont reach full potential without the nozzles plus you'll be waiting for power all day. -

Pd100 tuned to 223.4hp and 395ftlbs. Stock internals. Kw coilies, full polybushing, 323 brembos, jabba rarb, kw farb, custom drop links. THS Seatsport intercooler, forge/custom pipework. Custom TIP, pd150 inlet, cast manifold with gtb1756, self ported/flowed arl head, cold forged camshaft, black top lifters, Had BMC CDA induction but was suffocating, swapped to powertec sl1x with twin cold air feed and heat shield. Currently running carbon kevlar sachs clutch with g60 flywheel (lightened) but slipping. Full SRE on the cards next, and quaife. -
Front doors will swallow a suprisingly large speaker without having to mod the card. I've got vibe space 6s in there, with a 65mm depth. The speakers on the rear shelf are 4" i think, at least thats what ive got mounted in there now. really easy to swap out, pull carpet away, unscrew the plastic from the pillar (3 screws if i remember correctly) then the speaker is mounted to the underside by 4 more screws. Fabias sound sweet with a nicely uprated system. I'm currently running vibe space 6s in the front, 3 speakers per door, vibe slick 5" in the rear doors 2 speakers per door, and then 4" vibe slicks in the side shelfs. Plus the mandatory fish tank in the boot, such a soundproofed car no-one knows until a window or door is opened.

HELP ME PLEASE (pictures included)
badgelock replied to Dankhan's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Helps if you take the airbox out, between base of airbox and your engine, follow the loom to the two pin sensor. Then follow above instructions for removal. Hope this helps. I've found it's not so much the sensors that go but the connections. Try waggling it about, if it makes a difference, clean it with wd40.... Hope this helps. -
Looking for wheel hub assemblies, any chance you've got them going? Looking for both sides, have pm'd. Cheers

Getting pretty fed up with this car.....

Ever jacked off the rear beam? They're made of cheese and bend far too easily, also a sloppy or bent steering arm wouldn't show up when tracked, as it's done with wheels straight. Try getting it string boxed, most race car tuners/preppers will do it cheap for you. Is it pulling all the time? Or only when under load? -
Ah, the living with it. I don't, massive sound system and fully deadened shell means as long as windows up i forget it's there. Noone else does though haha. Not like a tractor, guess it's down to the tip chosen, plus the tune of the down pipe. As for the back pressure, less is better, i have zero spool up time on the turbo, just boot and go, maybe one of your sensors was playing up? But mine is a pd100, kinda. :-)
