    Hey everyone, Not been on in a while but I thought an update might be in order. So, after the birth of my son (in March) and self isolating for months I thought, with the addition of prams and all that babies need I would cheer myself up with a new car. After much searching and bartering with a nearby Skoda dealership I settled on a new (used) 17 plate Skoda Octavia vRS DSG estate. It has the Black Pack 2 (although probably called something different now), sat nav and full colour maxi dot display. Its done 38,000 Miles and only traded in as the owner wanted a new Superb. I know the colour (Rallye Green) isn't to everyone's taste but I quite like the colour and it matched what I wanted in my next car perfectly. Collection date, Tuesday (18/08/20). Thoughts?

    Thanks for your suggestion, it really helped out. So, I managed to get the old bolt out and saved the existing thread at the same time. Got hold of the right angled drill bit adaptor you mentioned and this provided the access I needed. Got in there with a 4mm drill bit as a pilot hole and tried my screw/bolt extractor. Unfortunately, this did not work, every time I've tried to use screw/bolt extractors, they've always failed. This left me with the option of drilling the bolt out entirely and re-tapping the hole as you mentioned. Got the 7mm drill bit out and went until the right angled drill bit was too hot to touch and then the old bolt just fell apart, gave it a touch up with an 8mm tap to clean the threads and a new bolt fit in there no problem. Got the ARB attached with some new bushes and drop links and now the car feels much better to drive. Photo below of the aftermath of drilling, excuse the weld mark there, tried welding a bolt onto the old one to try and undo it that way, lack of space caused me to miss and give up on that silly idea!
  6. 66 plate Octavia 150 SE L DSG owner for a week based in South Wales. First time I’ve had a Skoda and also first auto box. Driven a couple of hundred miles over the week and love it! Still find myself going to press the clutch in when slowing/ stopping but getting better lol. Very impressed with the fuel economy so far especially given I’ve been playing with both sport mode and acceleration (& it’s alleged my right foot can be heavy on an empty dry dual carriageway), but still getting 47mpg - which is virtually the same as I was getting out of my 1.6l diesel Hyundai i30! I’m not one to do many modifications, I’ve put on a rear seat cover (matches the paint colour) to protect them from the dogs and might get similar for the front (I’ve Dryrobe covers in my van which I love so may get the same) but that’s it!

  8. You need to change the motor for a 7 pin one to make it work. You can run the coding but it won’t remember the position it was last in nor can it be set.

    Not a fan of any dealer clean of any description to be honest. As far as fallout is concerned, I went through a full 200g bar of course clay on my wife’s Focus when it was new and with 7 miles on the clock. That was after I carried out a thorough decontamination wash with fallout remover several time’s. I have to assume it was stored somewhere beside a rail yard or the like. Normally I blame the shocking amount of rubbish that comes from brake pads these days. I used Race Glaze 9H when the paint was cleaned and corrected. That was 2yrs ago and the finish is still as good now. hopefully yours is finished properly when you return to pick it up. Sealants and coatings are fantastic, but only as good as the person that applies them. Regardless, If your still not happy, get a refund and have a good detailer coat it for you instead.
  10. My 2014 Superb was in in June for a service, they did the recall on the indicators but not the emission fix, they know I do not want that done, so they can just do the safety recall.
  11. Quick update. The main dealer quoted me over £100 for a new part - couldn't accept that. I believe there are cheaper parts on Ebay for around £40. I went for a bodge. Don't know how long it will last but this is what I did:- 1. Button assembly removed from tailgate by prising away from panel with a screwdriver. 2. Connector unclipped to allow assembly to be completely removed. 3. Button package dis-assembled (not easy, did break a few retaining clips along the way but not enough to cause a problem) 4. Believe the failure was caused by broken plastic around the white hinge (see photo). This causes the button not to spring back properly after being pressed. 5. Microswitch itself tested and found to be fine. 6. Fashioned a new hinge housing using a cable clip (nail bent to force cable clip in position between housing and white hinge). 7. Reassembled and switch springs back properly after being pressed. 8. Tested on car and works fine after about 100 cycles.

    Or perhaps it's NOT standard on the SE! The latest price & spec list shows Drive Mode Select as an option for the SE and SE Drive, and only becomes standard from SE L upwards. Older cars may be different I suppose, but forum owners would have to advise you on that. 😞
  17. Hi, My wife and I bought a new Fabia Monte Carlo in 2014 and thought it was a wonderful car it certainly was pretty in black over red. Before buying the Fabia we sat in a new Yeti in the showroom but we thought it would be expensive to run and maintain just for the two of us. In 2016 we were invited to a Skoda VIP event. I took along CarWow printouts of the best two deals which were far better then the Skoda special deal; this saved no end of time as I handed over the details. There was a Black Yeti in the corner of the showroom it being a pre-reg with a huge discount of £3,500; customers were climbing in and out of it as the salesman did the usual thing disappearing into the office leaving us looking at the stunning Yeti. When he returned he said he could beat the CarWow figure by a big margin and said the pre reg Yeti would also come with the paint/upholstery treatment thrown in; we were amazed wondering why this superb Yeti hadn't been snapped up; of course it was ours; we got a fair trade in for our beloved Monte and we paid the balance in cash. Riding in the Monte was like riding a skateboard; we felt every ripple in the road due to the sports suspension and rubber band low profile tyres; this Yeti though is a revelation; we step into it not down into it; it's got a lot of room and is just so comfortable; no more teeth rattling either over potholes. It's the Adblue model Yeti SE L 2.0L diesel. We're amazed that insurance is cheaper for the Yeti than the Fabia and with road tax at only £30 per year coupled with diesel economy we both have huge smiles on our faces. We have it fully serviced every year by DMK Wakefield; it's had all the necessary work done on it like brake fluid change and filters etc; servicing costs don't bankrupt us. We also have gap insurance on it taking it to six years old. We usually trade in at three years old but no way are we parting with our wonderful Yeti which is simply brilliant for a modern clone of every other car now made; the Yeti has street cred really standing out but it's also a good all round performer; the only thing I've ever disliked about our Yeti is the automatic stop/start so for every journey however short I switch it off. Since 1990 this Yeti at four years old is the longest we've ever kept a car and we've no intention of parting with it unless it starts to cost a lot in repairs. So in answer to your question buying any car second hand is always a gamble but if you're unsure do the RAC still do used vehicle checks? A nice Yeti will have you smiling every time you drive it. Good luck. I washed the Yeti this morning and have polished it this afternoon; it scrubs up well and still looks like new with only 24,500 miles on it. It's a keeper. Kind regards, Colin.

    I’m in the middle of correcting the paint on mine, but I’m not fitting a permanent ceramic as mine is used for all the daily running about. It’s easier to repair the odd rub mark from other peoples shopping bags, coats etc if it’s maintained the old fashioned way, ie sealant or wax, now even spray ceramics like turtle wax are fantastic for very little outlay. Permanent coatings are harder to fix as the entire car or even one side may need cut back and reapplied due to the coating changing the paint finish slightly, and making a single panel repair stick out. I’ll add a pic of mine at the minute with no protection at all to give you an idea of what yours should look like when you head back again. This is it inside the garage.

  26. We have an Octavia and Superb in the household, both with Canton. The version fitted to the Superb is far superior to that fitted to the Octavia. Extra mid-range speakers and a better sub/digital amp configuration in my opinion. I listen to similar music in both vehicles quite frequently and can compare directly. That said, I 'like' the Canton (as fitted to the Superb) rather than love it. It still tends to be overly 'bright' and needs treble and mid turned down, and the sub still lacks punch (and don't bother setting it above '2' as it just distorts). We also have a VW Jetta Highline in the family that I had previously fitted a good quality aftermarket active subwoofer to (under the passenger seat), and despite not having fancy digital amps etc actually sounds much better than the Canton on any piece of music. However, it is still a no-brainer whether or not to option Canton. It's always a Yes, as I can only imagine the standard audio system would be rather disappointing.
  27. Could be many issues. Bad timing (distributor), low fuel pressure, bad coil, bad spark plugs. Show us a video of stuttering / misfiring.
  28. I had this issue with my VRS when I went to CZ last year and it was 38C driving around Prague. The car will start injecting additional fuel into the mixture due to evaporation; you will also find that stop/start maybe disabled during this period too. Its perfectly normal - the car is doing what is meant to do.
  29. Ouch!!. All I can suggest is, for a couple of days fill that bolt recess up with Plus - Gas. its one of the best penetrating fluids around. People make the mistake of using WD40 this only a lubricating fluid and rust preventer. Then, gettiing hold of a right angled attachment for your drill, drill most of the centre out. Using a extractor tap try to unscrew it, if it doesnt budge try a bit of local heat, after cleaning off the Plus -Gas (its very inflammable). If that isnt possible can you drill from underneath into the bolt?. If you cant get the remaining bit of bolt out, then drill it out until you remove most of it, re-tap hole to M10 The hole in the clamp is 10mm, then just use a M10 bolt x 18 long. The existing part numbers are:- M8 x 18 hex' bolt N - 101 - 016 - 03 (2 off) Clamp ...................1J0 - 411 - 336D (2 off) NB: Put a bit of copper grease on the bolt thread this will avoid it happening again. Not sure how many airbags your car has, but early delvage into wiring diagrams suggests that side airbag crash sensors are probably with the airbag itself, as there are no intermediate wiring connections between airbag control unit and sensor. To my mind that means the sensors can't be in the doors, as that usually would entail a plg/skt connection at the a-pillar.

I've changed cars three times since I was last involved here (Honda CR-V to Volvo XC70, to Kia Sportage, to Volvo XC90) had two mental breakdowns and two kids ( possibly linked!!) However, now I'm stuck indoors, and only just beginning to consider working from home if I.T get their act together) I thought I would reignite some old acquaintances, with Briskoda being the safest of the available options!
  35. One thing to mention, I'm assuming you live and work in the country, if not be careful with a Euro 4 diesel. Many cities and larger towns are tightening their emissions regs for driving into cities and you could find in a year or two you'd need a Euro 5 diesel to drive to work in the city. Other than that the Yeti has ranked highly in the JD Power satisfaction surveys for years whilst in production. So unless you buy a lemon you should have years of happy motoring ahead providing you look after the routine maintenance.
  36. Sounds like you are maybe used to the torque of a diesel geared engine. Petrol engines work better with higher revs

Only thing I would do if I were you was to get your new Yeti serviced plus an A/C service and brake fluid change soon as you can. After that an annual oil and filter change should keep you in fine fettle. Good luck.
  38. Exactly, you are looking for the best balance between price and condition. Don't overstretch yourselves but if it's within your budget don't be too worried about paying a bit over book to get a Yeti in good condition with a known service history. How frequently have the current owners had it serviced?
  39. I am fully aware that any used car is a a bit of a gamble but we are trying to do as much as we can to mitigate the chances of ending up having to throw a lot of money at. I think we hit a sweet spot with our last car as it was 6 years old in very good condition. Ideally we would like to hit some kind of sweet spot with our next purchase but with the current uncertainty in the world (and our current property) we are pretty nervous about over stretching ourselves. We were originally looking for an Octavia but after a 15 minute test drive my wife is now firmly set on a Yeti
  40. I moved to a Yeti in 2015 after 11 years with a Fabia Elegance Estate. You will not regret the the move, got into the Fabia after about a year with the Yeti and what seemed like a comfortable car for all that time was surprised by just how good the Yeti is.
  41. When cars get to that age (8 years) condition is highly relevant to price. A Yeti in good condition with service history and record of belt change will command a higher price than a typical vehicle with more signs of life and spotted service details. My guess is you're looking for something a bit better than 'average'?
  42. More important is what Dealers / Trader / Private sales are asking in Autotrader and other sites and are those cars selling at the 'Wish & Dream asking prices' or are they sitting unsold. 'What Car' & Parkers are on the side of the Motor Trade / SMMT, and not really in the buyers side of the road IMO. Sometimes ridiculous prices compiled by whatever means. Yeti are in demand though, especially good ones. Check the Full Service History, look & Invoices / receipts & look for rust / paint work / repairs. Zinc Inclusion. Doors front / rear / bottoms.
  43. @pumpkinpilot Welcome to the forum. ? What is showing when you look at the Full Service History? Good that there is that, if serviced to Manufacturers Schedule / Guidelines and not a History of not much being done. Has it been an annual Oil & Filter Service so 8 of those so far, or has it been variable / flexible servicing? Has the brake fluid been changed once or twice already? A Fuel Filter changed, Air Filters, Cabin Filters, A/C service? The water pump changed?
  44. In these difficult and uncertain times I would advise against entering into any financial agreement that is not absolutely necessary. A newer model would probably last you longer, but you would pay more for it. The one that you are considering sounds like a reasonable proposition.
  45. Try pressing the brake pedal a bit harder and see what happens - mine does the same and couldn't figure it out for ages! Guess it stays at slightly higher revs if you anticipate moving away more quickly. Cheers, Nick

  47. Was air con on? I’ve noticed if that’s going that revs hang a little higher (and not just on a dsg octy).
  48. Are your maps read directly from an SD card? Yes = Amunsen, no =Columbus What year is your Octavia 3? 2014 or earlier = MIB1 2015 = MIB1 until May build, MIB2 after 2016 = MIB2
