  1. Going away for a short break tonight, had the day off today to get ready for it. Last night the Mrs asked what I was doing tomorrow, seems my reply of "washing and cleaning out the car and loading it up for the break" didn't trigger this morning, as she took the car rather than the van to work! 🤐 Plus side: No jobs to do and a day off Negatives: Car is a mess, and when she gets home in 30mins it'll be chucking it down (rain just started, forecasted to continue past 9pm), and she will probably ask why I haven't done the 20 or so tasked she had in her head she never told me about
  2. Just FYI, if your lights are lighting up the large signs (you know, the ones well above any head height when driving) then they probably aren't 'really great' for anyone within 800yards of you, especially if it makes them too bright
  3. Buna Ziua @Sneffex , lovely choice of car in the Superb, also liking the colour choice in the violet. Hopefully it'll survive the Bucharest roads unharmed! (Going by the vehicle registration it is Bucharest right? BR for Brasov? Most of my friends over here were from the north so all MM plates!)
  4. If going for "new" cars then I agree the F-type would fit, if you would rather go for a bit more comfort, then its longer old brother the XK would fit. Very comfy, room for even tall ones, lots of space in the boot for suitcases Most comfort was probably the convertable as it runs softer springs (though a bit less relaxed on the engine side with 500bhp!)
  5. No emergency cover on the home insurance @skomaz? Should cover getting that fixed so at least you can have some heat! Either that or run all the PCs in the house on stress tests to make some makshift fan heaters
  6. I'd definitely recommend making a personal note of the meds you've had so far that you've reacted to. The amount of times in my old job I heard experiences of it not being noted down on medical records (or just plain ignored) next time anti-biotics were needed!
  7. Slight side-topic question. But have they got a solution apart from GSM based alarms? (Used to work in the personal alarm sector myself dealing with Tunstall, Tynetec, Doro and Legrand)
  8. Meant to be having the windscreen on the Van replaced today. Told last week (when booked) that it would be in the afternoon and I'd get an ETA at some point in the day. Still hadn't heard anything by 2:30pm so gave them a ring.... "Oh, we can't do it in the rain unless we can put it indoors, do you have a double-garage?" At no point was weather mentioned as an issue, especially as 99% of places now have lean-to/gazebo type things. And aparently the car-port isn't good enough. Got the MOT booked for Tuesday and re-arranged work planned this afternoon to get it done. Why they couldn't either mention bad weather stopping things when it was booked, or at least ring this morning to cancel is beyond me. Were they expecting me to just wait till 5pm then assume they were coming another time??
  9. Is this the estate Im sure I saw somwhere over on AS??
  10. Had one of these once... "im calling about your recent car accident" "ahh yes, tell me more" "did you have any injuries?" "I suffered severe memory loss" "anything else?" "i cant remember" "when was the accident" "What accident?" "The accident you had" "Ahh yes, I had memory loss" etc etc etc till they got so confused they put the phone down...it was a fun 10mins
  11. Strange, as they never (or very rarely) sell it in their shop or at the cafe on the estate...........must be too posh for the likes of us commoners....
  12. Looking good Gaz. Been pondering over getting solar in the next year or so, seeing your generation vs consumption (which is close to what we use, albeit slightly higher than us) does make me think it'd be worth it with a decent battery. Would be stuck with a 3.6kw inverter though as a lot of homes here have solar and i reckon if i go anything bigger, then its gets into that nasty "upgrade the power network" situation to feed back to the grid at over 3.6kwh😬
  13. Not quite norfolk. But Fen View Motors in March (just past kings lynn...ish) would be my recommendation. Took my cars to Steve since the day he opened, he was trained as a Skoda tech up until he started the garage. Always given good service and went above and beyond. Also uses a garage 100yards down the road to do MOT's, so the testers wont make stuff up as there is no money in it for them (Steve is a smart cookie as you may have guessed) https://www.facebook.com/FenViewMotors/
  14. Sounds wonderful! Hoping to head over to Adelaide next year, you'll have to send directions to this place
  15. Lets see if I can get around the filter... auto sh i te .com another forum full of people who love projects like this!
  16. auto****e.com I have posted a link to here @Boomycol there are some who would love it but can't make the 1 week deadline, one guy did mention maybe being able to pick it up next week though if you could hold onto it a tiny bit longer? EDIT: Thought the auto-censor might catch me out there
  17. Ressurecting this thread a little as I have reached another milestone with the Van, its not doing bad for 15 years old...
  18. At least put it up over on the "other forum" where cars of this caliber are their bread and butter. I would but I reckon you have more clout over there than me When does it need to be gone by @Boomycol?
  19. Would love the sealey set, but not sure the forum relay would get it all the way to nottinghamshire!
  20. On that note, drivers yesterday... Came up to a mini roundabout, cars to our right (so they have right of way) car comes from the left as we arrive and just stops ON the mini roundabout (right over the centre), passenger slowly gets out, and picks up something that fell out of the fully open window after sliding off the dashboard. Then slowly saunters back to the passenger seat, then the driver takes 1 or 2 attempts to get going again. No acknowledgement to anyone else waiting at the roundabout, it was as if we didn't exist. After that, the lady at the head of the quite to our right (Who has right of way) just sits there staring at me confused, takes her a good few seconds to remember simple driving theory and then she slowly chugs off with the 6 cars behind following. What should have been a 3-5 second stop turned into about 3mins😴
  21. Same here, got my quote through for the work van yesterday and its up from £300 to £400. Did the comparison stuff and the cheapest there was £550! Then again, having seen how people have been driving the last 12months after they've all been let out again I can kinda understand why, I can imagine accident rates have doubled... Just wish it hadn't timed its self perfectly with being £4k down on income due to bad weather and ill health, plus the hot water cylinder springing a leak yesterday, and the breakdown cover due on both cars, so im £4k down and need an extra £2k (ish) that I hadn't accounted for due to everything thats been doing on recently. Anyone got any tips how to pull £6k out of my arse??
  22. Not an affluent area round here so quite old, probably averaging somewhere about 10-15years old, but I think I won "oldest collection" I had two cars with a combined age of 61
  23. I can confirm this is true......last time I rang I don't think I even got any hold music. Straight through to Milton (who I seem to manage to talk to every year for the last 8 years!) got home insurance changed inc new address, and breakdown details swapped to the new address, all within about 10mins, though a few mins of that was just general chit-chat about cars, houses, and why im 99% sure he is the only one on the phones
  24. @J.R. All viewings etc it was lovely and clean, they just seemed to decide not to bother at the end. Went in the loft today and its edge to edge with empty boxes At least they will be good starting fuel for the bonfire Tight schedule is down to rental ending at the start of May, so need it up to spec in time. It should be do-able, just in the space of this afternoon we have the kitchen out, two rooms wallpaper stripped, picture rail off in the living room and rads off and drained. Same progress tomorrow should see the start of knocking out the brick pantry. I'm sure it will be @skomaz on the plus side, amongst the junk left behind is a fully working electric planer, so at least I can make some adjustments to the doors that keep catching on the frames!
  25. It was yesterday but the annoyance stands: Bought our first home yesterday, turned up at 12noon, on the plus side the previous owners were gone, on the bad side, it looked like they had let in squatters for the last few weeks! Got 2 wheelie bins, a cupboard and half an 8x10 shed just full of rubbish and broken things left behind. Floors are about an inch deep in mud, and I've seen cleaner floors of a pig stye than the condition of the kitchen cupboards. So now got to spend a few days cleaning rather than getting on with the work we need to on a tight schedule, on top of that, the people that were meant to be helping have come down with covid, so we are now working at about 25% capacity with 50% more work to do
