  1. I've been through a few. From DFGT to G27. Then from there got gifted a T300RS witht he 458 italia wheel and Fanatec Clubspory V2s. Only problem was it was attached to a playseat challenge, so you had to put enough force into the brake pedal to lift yourself and then add the force. Upgraded that to a GT Omega Titan Rig recently so everything is nice and secure! Pretty much spend any sim time on Assetto Corsa Competizione, currently taking part in an endurance series of 12 and 24hr races. And also a thursday night cup at Kyalami with prize money, which I may have a very remote chance of getting near SWMBO has also got interested recently, so she has the playseat and a T500RS & Pedals. Even the difference between the T300 and T500 is big for me regarding feedback. Looking forward to seeing how Fanatec's new DD wheel does regarding reliability, but it might be a future purchase. Then again, one of the fastest guys I know races on Jenson Button's Esports team, and just has a G29 clamped to a desk
  2. To be honest you will only notice the difference if you're building a rendering machine, or trying to game at 720p using an RTX3090. In 'normal' GPU/CPU combinations there might be at most a 10fps difference, and if youre only running a 60hz screen then there will be no difference at all. HERE is a good video looking at CPU/GPU scaling, looks at all 4 AMD ryzen generations, and 2 generations (And tiers) of GPU in games at 1080p, 1440p and 2160p. Its probably one of the very few 'reviews' that actually shows the real world difference.
  3. If you did want quiet fans, id recommend BeQuiet Silentwings. got 3 120mm ones in my rig and at idle they run at less than 10db when the soundmeter is less than 20cm away. Noisest thing is the GPU fan!
  4. With a Desktop, I always keep an eye on BIOS updates for any improvements that may help performance/reliability. With a laptop, as everything is so intergrated and designed around each other, I wouldn't be as concerned about keeping it up to date. I think the general rule of thumb is to use the old addage 'if it aint broke dont fix it'. As a bungled BIOS update can be fatal for your computer, whereas not doing the update may make no discernable difference.
  5. Should work now https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MW6sBc Also, userbenchmark isn't always the best source for working out performance, they switched out how they bias their results between tasks to favour Intel about 12 months ago the main reason for the price jump is the shortage in availability, the actual MSRP for the 5600X is meant to be about £250 I believe? The had a few over at Aria for £270 today on a limited special but i think they sold out in minutes! To be honest, either the 3600 or 10600k will be perfectly fine, my only worry with the intel is the heat and power requirements in such a small case. But with gaming your main performance maker is the GPU, that will be the make or break of a system.
  6. I'm still trying to work out how £2.5k is a tight budget? Never spent that much on one of my own cars. As superbTWM says, if you're sticking VAG, its either old PD or a jump to a 2.0CR engine. If not, then Suzuki/Kia/Hyundai/Toyota etc are usually good bets for something decent, the fact you need an estate will probably rule most of them out though.
  7. PC Prices are silly at the moment, I've put a partial hold on any builds till things calm down as you have to pay 50-100% more than you did 18 months ago! Id say go for the AMD platform, usually the selling point would be the ability to upgrade to later-generation CPUs further down the line, but the AM4 platform has reached its final iteration with the 5000 series CPUs. So both platforms are a bit of a dead end, but for casual gaming at 1080p 60fps, it wont be a problem. Also, as you're wanting to go ITX, you may not get as good power delivery options to the CPU on the motherboard with VRMs etc, so AMD's lower power architecture may be of benefit. Intel WERE the best gaming CPU and close on non-gaming workloads, now AMD win on both counts, intel is well behind where they used to be. The landscape has changed in the last 3-4 years by a long way! AMD are the fastest CPUs in all areas now with their latest processors, and you have got the flexibility to maybe buy a new motherboard and an 'old' CPU (2000 or 3000 series) to save some money and add in the 5000 series later. The 3000 series is a little slower than the intel 9 and 10 series, but you're only going to notice it if you're running the top ranking GPU like an RTX3090 or 6900XT. I play some CPU intensive games, but as im 1440p 144hz with only a 1660ti, Im nowhere near CPU bottlenecked. In 'nomral' gaming it really wont make a difference. Here is an example AMD system I've also used an SFX power supply as im not sure a standard one fits in an ITX case. But this would be a case of just dropping in a 5000 series CPU if you ever wanted/needed to.
  8. Sadly sold now as no longer needed, but I have my octy estate for about 7 years, but managed to do 190,000 in it in that time, sold it with 260k on the clock, and still on the original engine, original turbo, and only 1 clutch change!
  9. From what I was told from a tech guy at my ISP, is its FTTC/fibre then its just plug-n-play. Old copper line will need username and password.
  10. Looks good! Though im now Skoda-less........would you accept a mk2 Mx5 and a mk3 Ford Capri in the ranks instead?
  11. Right, all the new components are now released..........but trying to find one available for MSRP is a bit like expecting to walk into buckingham palace to have a cuppa with the queen.... So I shall update the builds and pricing once things calm down a bit!
  12. @BML IF you havent already (as I know im a bit late here) I can thoroughly recommend Chris Knott's breakdown service, I have it on both my vehicles (one 11 years and one 15 years old) and although I thankfully have only had to use them once, they were absaloutely fantastic. And at a much better price than the 'big brands' too!
  13. Hi Mortv, There is probably a few threads on the forum about it you can find via the search bar. There are many options, you could go for an aftermarket unit that looks close to OEM. Or with the octavia go for a fully OEM Setup. I had a 2006 Elegance model and swapped in an Admunsen+ with built in bluetooth, GPS etc. The only thing I needed to do was to change the Canbus unit as mine was a little old to be compatible, im not sure which year that changes (could be late 06-08 somewhere from what I vaguely remember). But if you dont need that, apart from the new centre console fascia so that it fits the right size, its just plug and play. Takes maybe 20misn to install everything, hardest bit was threading the Mic wiring through the dash and into the headliner to the slot for it in the interior light housing.
  14. GPus already dont really utilize PCIe 3x16, let alone PCIe 4x16, so it shouldnt be too much of a problem. A lot of the GFX card 'bonus' speed is usually for things like encoding, for example Nvidias NVenc codec. And I believe some intel chips can use the iGPU (onboard gfx chip) to speed up some processes. With the latest AMD announcements today, I think November/December there will be quite a jump on the PC market. And to be honest, unless you're planning to build a new PC/upgrade parts only once every 7-10 years, theres no point in futureproofing, as most things will be discontinued so there would be no upgrade path. Ram speed is pretty vital with AMD systems, maybe less so with the latest chips coming out, but for the work you do, high RAM capacity on the GPU and the PC is probably a must. But yes, when you do decide its time for a change, let me know
  15. PCIe4 is already here, well on AMD anyway Sounds like you need a more workstation based PC with lightroom and video editing. Yes I should be still doing this in a couple of years I hope! This month is a very busy month for tech releases, so by the end of the year the above builds will probably change somewhat (AMD are announcing all their new CPUs today and GPUs in about 3 weeks). The Graphics card not seeming to do much work when you are doing editing could be down to the GPU/CPU combo you are using, seems it can be a bit hit and miss as to what combo works. When you say 'only 1 decent pcie slot', does this mean you normally run SLi/Crossfire? As it seems unless you get the (crazily priced) 3090 Sli is pretty much officially dead. Though depending on the age of your PC just the upgrade in speed from new hardware may mean you dont need it anymore anyway!
  16. Thats a 'proper' remap then. Had my stage 1 Shark remap on for 180,000 miles and counting, must have done it right as its still on the original turbo and the clutch has done 160k still pumps out almost 57mpg avg too. Really hoping someone has thier tuning IP so I can get another one of their maps if i have to change cars.
  17. This bit suggests to me you did the pressures at a petrol station? If you had been driving for a while beforehand then when you topped up the pressures the tyres would be warmer, causing higher pressure. The 1-2psi drop is probably just cold vs "hot" pressures. (also, I use 36 front 44 rear on my combi, fully laden pressures, good for economy too, and the slow leaks in both N/S tyres)
  18. Sounds more like something a tuning box would do than a remap. My remap never changed how far out the MPG reading was (5% optimistic before and after). With a remap AFAIK the settings/values are changed, whereas the boxes trick the system which would cause the discrepancy.
  19. Glad you managed to at least order what you needed! 8 cores and 16threads should be able to cope with anything👍
  20. @slicendice any update on this, did you decide what to go for?
  21. It looks like some new product releases are just around the corner! We also offer an upgrade service as well as 'new builds'. Either we can source the part to fit, or you can bring the part to us and we install it for you. Once new releases are out we will also update our prices for the gaming builds.
  22. Had ones from lumilife now for....7 years? not a single problem with them apart from 1 which is a SES golf ball style bulb which has gone a bit dim, but thats all.
  23. I'm going with option 3: Ryzen 3700X It has the same core count as the 3800X, but at a lower price. Plus you could get the clock speed back with overclocking, or even just spending the money saved on a 3600mhz ram kit and making sure the timings are nice and tight. I'm assuming its going to be a self-build?? If you did decide on the 6-core 3600XT, id say dont get the XT, go for the standard, or the X, the bump for the XT is about 200mhz whereas the 3600 can be picked up for under £160 (almost £100 less than the XT). You would get more of a boost from good RAM and SSD storage.
  24. With PCIe it all depends if the card is x1 x4 x8 or x16. (ie how long is the gold/copper slot bit that plugs in the motherboard) as this will dictate the speed. But even PCIe (version 1.0) 1x is 250MB a second, even the fastest internet over here (Virgin Media's Gigabyte service at 1000mbps) would only take up half that transfar rate. You're more likely to be restricted by whatever hardware/software on the car is processing the information.
  25. Perfectly wrong timing......ECU light keeps coming on in the Skoda, MOT can be done in October but will fail at this rate. Lets hope for a false localized outbreak so I can get it moved on another 6 months😂 (or if someone can do an EGR/ASV delete that would also work!)
