I have to agree with you on those points.......Like my big engines and prefer the look of the vRS....the non vRS format is a little un-exciting if I'm honest......Missus was 50 / 50 at first but love it now. The vec C sri seats she hated but loves the seats in the vRS.....also she was never a fan of the spoiler, and i know many people like it and i have to say i was ok with it but wanted something sporty looking and mean looking but without tail.....but again if its economy your after then go for a 1.2 or 1.4 engine....

Did they upgrade the tensioner eventually on the later engines or just carried on blissfully unaware???

It is a strange one if im honest......got it a couple of months back and it did it then whilst i was playing the radio during cleaning the car.....then once in poland i had a random alarm go off......never again since......Only last weekend bong went off again........will be getting a cheap volt meter this weekend for other purposes and will test.....

If I am honest, new engines these days are getting more powerful in lower ranges. I'm a petrol head and love my mighty large power house engines so will advise on atleast 1.8ltr min.....so for economy i would suggest 1.4 or 1.6

Smartphone.....far cheaper than replacing the unit....or Second hand Columbus if you want to spend money...

Welcome... 1.8tsi if your not looking at the vRS range of things in my opinion. Personally i think the bigger engine will be far better choice for hauling the family around. I've also heard there is not much difference in economy with any of the engines....Mines a 2.0tsi vRS and gotta say i can get out of it 38mpg at best with a little squirt of oomph..... They are, in fairness, good engines... Being an estate owner I will have to say I am happy. I have so much space in the boot its actually silly....I used to own a vec 5 door and could get it full.....too quickly. My estate i took over to europe and still had loads of room in the boot....
