  1. If you remove the cover to the air box you will see the large chamber which contains the air filter, above that, under the intake pipe is a second chamber. This chamber, on yours, obviously vents into the engine bay. However, on mine it vents to sod all. I have a hole which vents from the large chamber to this small one. Not sure what it's doing to be honest. Not a lot I would suspect. Not exactly. Mine is a diesel 170CR, top end of the revs feel very free, they didn't beforehand.
  2. Oh no, I was right. Mine just doesn't vent to the engine bay, just vents to that chamber. Anyway, covered and the plastic removed.
  3. Hmmmm hope I haven't covered up the wrong bit. There was a rectangle space next to where the air filter sits which has a circular hole within. That hole I covered up.
  4. I think it's a precaution. It's German isn't it, 40 bolts to do one job.
  5. I'm very glad that they're tackling folk who park in parent and child bays. £70 fine for anyone caught by the monitored car parks. I sincerely hope there's a ticket coming to anyone who thinks it's acceptable to watch a parent struggle. It's hard work getting a baby in and out of a car and am very grateful for the extra room as you often have to open the doors wide and then manoeuvre a pram through the gap.
  6. No yours looks fine now, I'm just interested as to why every hatch I've seen sits higher than mine.
  7. Are the hatches naturally higher than the estates? Mine looks that low and is completely standard (bought ex demo from dealer)
  8. Sorry yeah, these were when I bought the cars!

  10. No. The discrepancy is about 1-2 at that mph. It is true that you could travel faster than indicated speed. However, if you have a ticket, you have been going over 70mph, whether indicated correctly or not. End of story. Radar doesn't lie, especially when it's calibrated regularly.
  11. There's tolerances of course but they're not 'that' innacurate. Basically if you're going 31 on your speedo you're probably doing 29-30. That's enough tolerance. This increases at speed. Wheel size/tyre size all play a part. But that's another story, hence the tolerances, as I'm sure skoda didn't calibrate my speedo any different to someone with 15" wheels. Anyway, they use the Doppler principle which measures how long it takes for that radar pulse to return to the transmitter/receiver. Again I don't want to go into that, but when those signals marry up with a pre designated time frame it sends a signal to take a photograph. Lines on the road are used to accurately **** you off by proving the system works. Speed = distance (in ft markings) over time (takes 2 photos 1 second apart) quite simple really, and also allows you to dispute a claim by measuring it yourself. Edit: other police equipment uses the same principle but doesn't take a photo. Usually filmed for reference or the roadside speed gun is calibrated at a pre determined date (week/month)
  12. I'm not going to get into GPS, trilateration and timing errors but rest assured your speedo and your GPS are both innacurate to a certain amount. You don't need this accurate service, hence America does not provide the companies renting the GPS service from them, to provide you with definite and accurate speed/location data. This is reserved for military use.
  13. Mmmm disagree there. My diesel vrs is fun and economical. Even if I put in premium fuel it is absolutely more economical and cheaper to run than it's petrol counterpart.
  14. My computer reads lower than I ever get. I love to talk about how economical my car is, I enjoy it. However, average MPG doesn't interest me. I care about long journeys, nothing else. Town driving is a necessity and I see no point in measuring it. It's low and awful, like most cars.
  15. Gonna try some v-power on Friday, see if it makes any difference over Ultimate. Filled up 15 litres today for tonight's journey! 174 miles of motorway! Fingers crossed the MPG stays high
  16. I'm sorry but he can't prosecute you for carrying 60mph through bends. He could say you were not driving with due care and attention but that's chalk and cheese. I'm sure a flat panda may struggle to hold the 60mph and May tyre squeel and go off line. However, if your vehicle is capable of holding that speed in a controlled manner then I see no fault. However I'm sure he will!
  17. The thing is, you paid for 2 hours and ran over by quite a substantial amount. You agreed to the terms and conditions. Now I'm not saying it's right and I would begrudge paying the fine, therefore, I would appeal and conjur up a reason as to why you were late.
  18. Honestly, for £1200 I'd buy a diesel focus with half the mileage. What a joke.
  19. The mk2? That's insane. Last car I drove with electric steering was a clio. Felt like I was driving with a computer simulator wheel.
  20. I haven't fully investigated this, so sorry for any half diagnosis. Basically on full right lock today whilst turning around I heard the pump, the noise is kind of like a flow of high pressure hydraulic noise, which is probably is. You know the noise! Anyway, I haven't tried it doing a left hander but I'm assuming this is normal? However I'm pretty sure I've never heard this on any other car I've owned. I actually heard it over the radio - which wasn't that loud to be fair. Anyone know if this is ok?
  21. Can't believe the comparisons being chucked up here. A proper hot hatch vs a bargain diesel. Really?
  22. I've filled up with normal BP since my last post and filled up again with Ultimate. I don't really care what anyone says, I agree with you Fan Tsang, definitely 100% a different driving experience. Engine feels full of life!
