  1. I am sure the monte carlo can he mapped to give the 130bhp that the mk1 vRS give????
  2. Console yourself, the back hatch on the Up is aweful looking. Makes it look like a C1. At least the Citigo has a proper hatch door.
  3. I had a red Skoda in the past, it faded to pink very quickly. On the other hand my Dad has just traded a 9 year old Hyundai that was red and it was as vivid as it was the day he bought it. I just like balck. I have had two black Octavia cars and bought my wife a black Hyundai (car she had before her new Citigo). But as as BossFox points out, colour is a matter of taste. You could order a white Elegance Greentech, and get the balck wheels and a black stripe as options. That way you would have a higher spec car that gives better mpg and which avoids the rather 'colourful' interior but looks like a sport on the outside.
  4. Yes that is my thoughts exactly. I know even plastic trim on bumpers, side protection strips etc are a bother when it come to detailing, and they are more robust than a vynl sticker. Not every one can afford a professional detailer. I assume Boss Fox is very wealthy going by the posts he has made about the number of cars he buys and the extreme mods he does to them.
  5. About £50. Most I have seen are either £15 or over £100.
  6. Yes it does, and that would also put me off red, especially as the strip is just a sticker and will cause problems with detailing. The balck is IMHO the best looking, and the red strip looks good on the black (as does the black on the red car), but I think the white car should have had a black stripe.
  7. Another (and often forgotten) figure you have to consider is the max nose weight that is allowed. Many cars are able to pull the weight of caravans but struggle to handle the nose weight placed on the towbar. My Mk3 Mondeo had loads of power, and my caravan was under 75% of the weight of the car, but I had to move the gas bottles into the rear bathroom to get the nose weight under the allowed maximum for the car. This was not great as weighty items are more stable over the axel.
  8. I have never owned one, and do not know what the engine issues were, but diesels are a disaster nowadays, with DMFs, DPFs, EGRs etc, all that cost over £1K to fix. I recently came back to petrol after a series of diesel cars, all of which were a nightmare.
  9. Skoda is a make that suffers from higher than average depreciation, because of the unfashionable brand. Also there is such a flood of used and nearly new cars on the market that used prices have to be realistic to sell. The Citigo Sport is badly overpriced as new. Just look at new prices for other city cars such as the i10, C1 etc. I paid £11,005 for my Elegance Greentech. Only for the fact that I like the car so much I think I should have had my head felt for spending so much on a tiny car LOL. PS don't get the white one. I have seen all three and the white one looks like poo compared with either the Black or red. Why oh why did they put red stripes on the white car?????
  10. Yes that looks nice. My own laptop is a Samsung Series 9 ultrabook, will full SDD storage. Boots very quickly and uses far less battery than a mechanical HDD.
  11. Our dealer has a very good reputation. Do you have the Garmin or the older brnaded PID as perhaps your one does not support Live traffic updates etc?
  12. There is far far to big a price hike on these fuels to justify their use in ordinary cars. Even the Mk1 Octy vRS only needs 97 RON.
  13. Can anyone recommend an actual camera. I have done web searches and they are all far to expensive, or cheap but with many bad reviews. Anyone able to point me to one at a reasonable price that s worth having?
  14. Sort your PID out??? When I picked up the wifes's new Citigo the dealer already had the PID fitted. He then mated her two phones (work and personal) to the PID, downloaded her adress books, and set up the live features using her iPhone. He also told her to update the PID via her computer if she was interested in keeping the maps up to date. Did your dealer not do any of this?
  15. Yes, I was surprised how loose the wheel bolts were on my brand new Citigo when I had the bad luck of getting a puncture after two days of use. I am now getting a torque wrench.
  16. Dell make good enough machines (my desktop is one) but how good a laptop is all depends on the specs, and for £400 you are limited. As for Apple, yes Universities are geared towards Windows, but that is not a problem. If you have MS Office on your Mac it can both read and write files compatible with Windows Office, nad what other interaction do you need? If there is an Acer with an i5 for less than £400, go for it, this processor is much more capable than those in the first couple of machines mentioned. The RAM and Hard Drive are not to difficult to upgrade if needed, but the processor is not, so go for as good a one as you can get for your money.
  17. Of all the diesel engines used by Skoda the old 1.9 is by far the best. The newer 2.0 is less economical and far more likely to break. I can't speak for the Toyota, but I do wonder why you dismiss the Mondeo. Of all the cars I have owned the Mondeo was the best to drive and also the most reliable. More expensive to buy new than an Octavia, but actually used I think they are rather better value.
  18. This type of thing can be caused by a number of factors. Have they linked finances with a partner? If so then the partners rating can also effect their rating. Is there anything which looks suspicious etc. Finally there is affordability.
  19. Sometimes manufacturers go the other direction. I had a Ford Mondeo (Mk3) LX which is the basic trim and it has electric rear windows. In the later face lifted models you had to get a higher trim to get electric rear windows. There were a few other minor things dropped or moved up the range as well.
  20. If the money was less tight I would recommend an Apple laptop. Many students use these and your son may feel second best with a budget Windows machine.
  21. Yes that is better, the i3 processor is a newer processor than the dual core pentium. It has less RAM than the Lenova, but Windows 8 is ok in 4GB. Truth is any of them will allow internet access, and use of MS office. Remember that once your son has his student email account he can buy MS Office as a download from Microsoft for a very small amount of money.
  22. Can't remember of the top of my head but it is something like £2000.
  23. We thought of the Citigo. However the 0% offer is not available on the S and we could not get an SE without it being a factory order (min of 12 weeks, which would have required MOTing and taxing his old car again). Overall I think the Sandero is probably a better car for him, as he regularly carries two labradors and its boot is several times the size of that in the Citigo.
  24. Hi, Both of these would be fine. I like the Lenova better because it has more RAM and the processor is slightly faster as well. No details about how long the battery lasts, but like MPG in the car you can take the quoted figures with a pinch of salt.
