  1. Anyhow, I talked to the rep. They took a brief look at the AC components and could not find anything wrong + there are no errors either. Soo for now I will settle with what I have got, but may be in the future I might take that cheese with "whine" - 4 and half years of guarantee left
  2. I am going for 15 000 km oil change on 12.08 and will be asking what's up with that "whine". Still works perfectly at 30 degrees C - no problems. It would be interesting to know how the hissing is related to the turbo - anyhow, it seems it is normal after all :-)
  3. I would say it really depends in which country you are ordering. In Estonia we have Elegance with Bi-Xenons and there is possibilty to add LED day lights for 150 EUR.
  4. Thanks for the heads up, but one other thing - do you guys talk about Imperial MPG or the other MPG. It seems those numbers are different, so... And you are filling up in liters, why on earth aren't you guys talking L / 100km? Weird stuff.
  5. OK I understand. One more thing that noise is heard inside the car.. So I do not know - will have to see what it does in the long run. Got 5 years warranty, so it might be just my ears being a bit a**l for noises. (PS, I never heard my 2006 Mazda 3 FL do it)
  6. So as spring has passed and AC is doing more work now (we had like 27 C outside for a while) I have noticed humming / buzzing / whining noise of the AC at lower RPM. If it is really hot outside, then the noise is louder, since AC has to work harder. It is really easy to test. Make sure AC has to do some work, stand still, turn off start/stop, be in neutral / park (as I got DSG) and then give it just a little bit of rpms to just over 1k. Reapet giving slight notches of gas peddal. I hear distinct noise (this can be heard even when driving and taking from the standstill). Turn off AC and the noise is gone. For notes AC works good - I am set at 21 degrees, sometimes +/- 1 depending of passangers. By the way one more question about AC consuming petrol at 16-17 degrees C outside. I have noticed AC consuming something like 0.1-0.3 L/h even if I turn my car heater up... This might be nothing, but still a bit annoying. For notes I talked to the service person and he said, that some clients have returned to them with the same "problem". For one they even changed AC compressor, but it supposedly did not solve the noise problem. For notes nr 2 in the cold weather I do not recall hearing that noise - I suppose AC was used just a little, but I can't remember hearing that... There is one more thing you could check if your car does this or not: if you have a longer ride than 30 km could you check if your car does tsst-tsst-tsst noise on the left front side of the engine (tsst has 2 sec interval - some pressure is being released). Supposedly it is related to air conditioning... At least the service person told me that. You can hear that tsst in this video I made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyhj0zkFeEs Turn up volume to hear it - fades out relatively quickly. I haven't been able to record that AC noise on my mobile - waiting for hotter weather at the moment.
  7. Marking this thread - I got miron vibration somewhere in the front and it is bugging me... I can't say if it is the rpm related or not, but one thing I know - it is not my sunglasses in the box :-D And it is not something in the glovebox - I have opened it and something still rattles quietly. Hmm got to try holding handbrake knob - it made some noise on my Mazda...
  8. I got the 1.8 Elegance with Drive Mode selector - seems it is only matter of the logo. For notes I have selected individual, where I have selected hardest steering (I like semi hard steering) and if I need a sport mode - I will just pop my DSG shifter down into sport mode / manual for steering wheel shifters. So basically I ordered that button only to select harder steering :-D Could someone confirm or deny the fact, if you do not have that button, then you car setting menus will not contain individual / ECO or what not.
  9. My petrol 1.8 TSI runs around 100-105 degrees C while doing 100 km/s. Usually it is around 102-103, so the other ends depend on the wind - belive it or not, but it makes few degrees difference for me. One weird thing I have noticed is when the temp has not reached that mark, the car tends to consume about 0.5L less. I am talking about the range of 70-95 degrees or so... Since the temp gets up pretty quick, it is hard to test or prove the theory. If it provides some interest - usually my coolant temp gets to 90 before oil even reaches 50. I have done about 7000km and I have done one early oil and filter change.
  10. Arrhhhh, I am so mad at myself, that I did not ask my dealer for RS spoilers on my 1.8 TSI Elegance. In Estonian skodaclub forums one guy ordered 4x4 1.8 TSI with RS spoilers and got it directly from factory with just a little tiny difference - there are no vRS tags on spoilers... And he has it in black - oh the jealousy If only I had known it was possible to order like that - arrrrrr So anyone, who is thinking of the RS outfit, you could order with RS spoilers, if you specifically asked for it (yes I understand that car added equipment lists do not contain such a possibility - at least it does not in my country). //Edit - link to the photo: http://static2.fotoalbum.ee/fotoalbum/420/446/010522325357537.jpg
  11. I have got flashed once with a long one (he hold his on for like 4 secs or so from 300m away) on a straight road with me being in "low" - it is impossible that my light "cut" was hitting that car. Got to admit I LOVE the cut in Octavia 3! So I hit 2 short bursts in that time and he lost his high quicker than a baby burps after eating. I have not tested it how nasty the full bean xenon is 50-200m away, but I guess it is pretty nasty since while driving alone, they light up the environment pretty good. gullyg, I myself would not be ashamed to hit highs for a while if someone starts to jack off on the road :-)
  12. Yes I got Start/stop, but if I put the car in P (usually automatic fuel saving kicks in and shuts down engine), press the button and open the door, then radio shuts down. If I do not press the button and leave the car, engine stays off in fuel saving, alarms ping while driver door is open and radio stays operational. But in this scenario, if I return, I have to press the button to turn car off and then back on again - it is impossible to resume, since the car lost the key / driver door was open for a while and refuses to continue (start the engine before it was completely shut off, hold foot on the break and start up again). I know it is a small nip ticking, but still - a bit annoying from time to time. Would have been much wiser to let radio play until I lock the door or some time passes to automatically shut it off...
  13. Forgot to mention, that I am running DSG But anyhow - that someone needs to switch it back on if that happens :(
  14. So if iPhone and iPad can be hooked up over Bluetooth, what bonuses does Mitsumi give? For notes I am in process of looking around if cordless charging is possible in the car or not. If I find a suitable charging pad which fits in the small box near the upper part of the gear lever to charge Galaxy S3 / S4 with enough juice 0.7-1.0A I will be totally wire free. Think about it like this - bluetooth is enabled, toss your phone in the box, calls and music is on demand + the damn thing gets charged in the process. (Charging wires could be connected somewhere near the 12V charging "hole")
  15. Or you just use Spotify through Bluetooth. Really handy stuff for mobile phones - calls can be accepted and dialed from the wheel (at least recent calls) and on top of that you can skip songs if you don't like what is playing. Mind you, you can play mp3 files over bluetooth as well, so for me I really do not need the USB or SD card. But if you do want stationary card in your car, then something like one 16GB/32 GB SD card is more than enough for anyone needs. But as said before it does not matter if you have Canton or not - Canton is just an speaker and amp upgrade to standard 8 speaker system. For listening you will be needing at least Bolero type of equipment and for added comfort toss in Bluetooth. For notes I do not know if iPhone or iPad can be used over Bluetooth, so you might need that Mitsumi or what not...
  16. I have noticed, that my left side Xenon tilts to the left when I am in town (right side driving) - when turning the lights follow to the turn (mind you, the left one is not that high to blind oncoming driver). When I stop, the light goes back to the center. I do not know if it is normal or not...
  17. DSG P for park. Shut off the car by pressing the ignition button. Open driver door. Radio turns off. Is it possible to make the radio turn itself off after I lock the car instead of just opening driver door? Sometimes really annoying while I just have to go out for few minutes and there are people in the car? Thanks.
  18. As far as sound goes my friend owns 2010 Superb with standard system and compared to MK3 Canton he said it is like day and night after hooking up his favorite playlist from Spotify over bluetooth. I have also heard 8 speaker Bolero play in MK3, which is decent, but that extra 400 EUR I spent gives a nice depth to quality. So my suggestion is this: if you are going to keep the car for longer period of time, definitely get that upgrade (I plan to keep mine for at least 5 years - so I took everything I felt was missing from standard Elegance). If you are deeper HiFi head and plan to do something custom (this will cost you more than 400 EUR/quid), then keep in mind that Canton system has it's own amplifier, which might get in your way - so you will be better off with standard 8 speakers as base.
  19. When I ordered my hatchback elegance I was disappointed that there was no option for electric boot open and close. I have searched a bit on a google with no results, but if anyone finds a way to make it happen on HB, then I would definitely get my car upgraded
  20. So next time anyone asking when I will be getting my car? Answer: "When it's ready"
  21. It is the same for others aswell. My local dealer said the same thing - 2 weeks, before that time the "build week" can hop around and is just "something"...
  22. You can be almost 100% sure of the build week when there is 2 weeks to build. My dealer told me that "they" (factory logistics etc) lock it 2 weeks before and after that time they change build(s) very rarely - only major problems etc. So seeing your build is so far in the future the only thing to say here is you can get it sooner of that time and it can be later as well...
  23. But the car really looks like an Audi from behind: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/42/2001-2005_Audi_A4_%288E%29_1.8T_quattro_sedan_02.jpg Octavia 3 has made a real difference on their series and I think the 3rd one looks fantastic. I liked the first one, second one was a bit meh, but the third...
  24. 1.8 TSI has 180HP and I got to say that at 2000-3500 RPMs it pulls really nice - DSG shifts tick in piew piew piew and you are cruising on desired speed. Can't wait until I have done ~10000 km or so, spring to pop 225mm 17" summer tires and hit the revs to 6k to feel the full power of the middle class black sleeper (even got the steering wheel shifters as well for manual shifting rrrRRRRRrrrrrrrr). As you said 150HP I presume it will be 2.0 diesel - that 320 Nm should work really nice in that range aswell. Happy waiting, mate :-) PS! When are you going to drive it? Answer: Not today - not today ;-)
  25. One more reminder, if you are going Octavia 3 and like harder steering, then definitely order "Drive Mode Select", so you can select "sport steering" while other parts are on "Eco" or "Normal" (costed 100.- EUR for me). Plus don't be surprised how light the steering is at very low speed or just standing still. The hardness kicks in smoothly while starting going faster or something.
