  1. No longer own my 2014 vRS (TDI) but just happened to stumble across this thread. Mine had the same leak a few weeks before I handed my car back under VT in 2017. They said there wasn't a leak and it was just 'using' coolant when I visited the dealers under warranty. I couldn't be bothered pressing them as I knew I was giving the car up so it went back with the fault - hopefully the new owner didn't have to pay for the repair! Think the mileage was around 45k at the time. Reg was GL14 F** in green.
  2. Did anyone receive a letter from Skoda after the collection like an account closed letter? It's been over 3 weeks and all I've had was a remittance advice for a refund for part of my last payment during the week.
  3. Impreza STi. Fancied something completely different so going from averaging 56mpg in a diesel to low to mid 20s if I'm lucky.
  4. Car has been collected. They found a small crack in one of the rear lights but other than that just small stone chips in the bonnet and a mark on the spoiler where it has started bubbling AGAIN.....I will be heavily contesting that if there is an associated charge. I didn't sign anything but he is sending me a copy of the report by email. Strange feeling as I thought I'd be glad to see the back of it with all the problems I've had but think I'm going to miss it.
  5. I chased them although the way they answered was as if they were waiting for the call. They received the paperwork Friday from Skoda so it was probably in a queue. She offered a selection of dates so I picked the nearest.
  6. As Tiger says it has to be MOT'd so they can drive it away. A bit annoying as the pickup is over the 14 day statutory time they were given to pickup the car.
  7. Cars being collected on 2nd May. Gutted as I now have to pay for an MOT just for 2 days.
  8. Damn. I managed to reverse into a wall last week so I've been waiting for that to be repaired (this morning) before phoning. Just my luck. Nothing risky about the excess mileage. There is nothing owed according to their own document I signed. "You have the right to end this agreement. To do so.....If you have already paid at least this amount plus any overdue instalments and have taken reasonable care of the goods, you will not have to pay any more." I believe from reading on here and the VW forum only people who took out agreements since they changed the wording on this have actually been sent invoices.
  9. Started my VT rolling this morning. The woman from Skoda Finance told me they would send some forms out for the excess mileage charges. Guess I'll be ignoring them if they turn up. Praying it will be collected by 30th April otherwise it needs an MOT, tax and renewing of insurance.
  10. I had a leak around the water pump a year ago which was fixed. At the weekend I lost two inches of coolant in 20 miles and the alarm sounded. Topped up and lost another two inches and alarm on over a period of about 10 miles again Monday. Thursday the same happened so called Skoda Assist. He pressure tested and couldn't see any sign of a leak despite it going down by 1/2 cm in 5 mins while we were watching it. Told me it's probably an air lock and fine - I kept a copy of the paperwork. Im VT'ing my car in 2 weeks time so if anyone sees a green one for sale (GL14 plate) stay well away! It's specifically this awful service from Skoda which is the reason I'm getting rid. Always denying problems.
  11. I'm going to be VT'ing my car next month. I've found the VW finance guide to fair wear and tear which lists what's allowed/not allowed and tolerances. Looking through the guide my car is in perfect nick except two things..... 1. My spoiler which has bubbled up 4 or 5 times has done it again. I recorded the issue with my dealer (still under warranty) but heard nothing for a few months - this isn't unusual with them. Does this need repairing before the VT or as it's under warranty when going back is this fine? 2. Two of my alloys are probably going to need referbing. Does anyone know what VW or the auction company who takes the car charge for this? I've seen two figures on various forums - one being charged £36ish per wheel and if the case I'll just accept the charge as it's less than it would cost me. The other charge I saw was £90 per wheel.
  12. My three free services have all been used so I had to pay for a major service in July this year. The price was advertised online at £269 but due to some problems with my booking and the garage forgetting to pickup my car they gave me a sizable discount and I paid just over half the cost - without even asking for a discount! Roll on yesterday and my car informed me I am due another service (minor) so booked online again and saw the price was £149. I got a call from Skoda HQ who confirmed the booking but told me it was actually £198 as the car was under three years old. I asked what difference that made but he couldn't tell me other than it would cost me more. It needed doing and I'm fed up with arguing with Skoda now so just said book it in. Does this sound right? And if so what is the justification for the added cost other than them having you by the short and curlys as you have no choice but to service it with them? Anyway lunchtime today I get another call from a girl at the dealership the car is booked in to. She was also confirming the booking and didn't realise Skoda HQ had been in touch so I queried the cost with her. She checked my service record and then confirmed my car is now on a variable servicing so it's not actually due for another 10,000 miles or July next year. It turns out I had actually, without realised switched to a variable plan when servicing the car with them last time but they didn't correct the car when resetting the service indicator. Told me to just pop in anytime this week and they will sort it for me. Bit of a result as I will be VT'ing in April so I won't have to pay for another service!
  13. Quick update: Finally got the damage report after nearly two weeks. Strangely half the report including the assessors notes on the damage have been redacted. Also some further info on the parts has been redacted. All very strange but they've now made a reasonable offer of £9.5k (the missing £500 was the excess) which she has accepted as doesn't want the car anymore. The first offer was £7k which was the glasses guide price and probably the reason for writing it off. We declined it and asked them to provide us with examples of the same model and milleage available on the market to buy which they couldn't so matched the price of the cheapest one that was available. Happy outcome but I would love to know what was redacted on the assessors form - it was any names, addresses or contact info because all of that was visible.
  14. The insurance are the ones refusing to put anything in writing like the assessors report. Only dealing with the insurance although the hire car company were the ones which notified us to the writeoff which then led to us calling the insurance. Two weeks after the car was taken away and she still hasn't had a single letter from the insurance. What makes it worse is she's still chasing them for payment for another car wrote off on the same policy (multicast policy) more than two months ago. She's not had a lot of luck!
  15. Yes. The problem is getting hold of the report. They're unwilling to give us anything in writing at the moment. All we've had is a threat on the phone that they know where the hire car is and will come and collect it with a spare key when she questioned the write off - great customer service. I remember I got given a copy of the insurance assessor report when mine was written off but I can't remember what stage of the process they gave it to me. I never asked for it as never disputed it being a write off so they must have just sent it as part of the process.
  16. Yes but even if the autotrader prices are double the price they use it's still less than 50%. My insurance matched autotrader when I threatened to go to the ombudsman as they state you need to find a replacement local to you with similar mileage. Not all are that lucky though. I'm sure once we get our eyes on the engineers report all will be clear.
  17. An SLK. They haven't given a settlement figure yet but a quick search on autotrader has given £10k the minimum amount you can get the model for so hopefully it will get somewhere close to that. The first we knew they were writing it off was this morning via the hire car company - 2 weeks after the accident. She was initially told it's being repaired so assumed that's what's been happening the last two weeks so we aren't sure why it's changed. The insurance aren't being much help although they have extended the hire car until Monday to allow them time to investigate. I've told her to get a copy of their damage report to see if it matches the photos we took at the scene. I'm not sure where the damage figure came from as I've only just got involved in it all because of the phone call. Damage wise I saw it on the night and the bodywork was untouched it only had a buckled rear wheel - Aquaplanned, spun round and hit a curb. Interesting re: the 66% figure. Hopefully that's a statutory figure they have to use.
  18. Having some issues with an insurance company. They are trying to write off my mums car even though the car is worth £10,000 and the damage is approx £2k. I would have thought there were some sort of guidelines on percentage of damage cost vs car value but can't find anything online. Do we have an recourse to force them to repair - they are saying it's solely their decision and if we want we can buy it back we can but obviously it will be stuck with a CAT D so don't want to do that.
  19. Actual figures as I stated - brim to brim measurements. I've also adjusted my MPG readout to account for the incorrect computer readings. Testing against actual readings they are within 1/2 mpg of actual. You'll find a post from 2014 on here whereby most found the computer reading was consistently 12% out so adjusted for this.
  20. Its strange - It can go a month or two without issue then suddenly it will happen once a week or every day. My latest theory, bearing in mind I have tested hundreds over the last couple of years, is I have a wiring issue. When the light has come on the last couple of times I simply twist the cables with the original connector on and then try the ignition again and all is well. This could be purely coincidental but I have given up now trying to work out if that is it or not. All I know is removing the box and returning to standard the car is fine...just slower and less economical. Plus I give the car back in April/May so not long to go really.
  21. I did a 2,500 mile trek around Europe just after I bought my car (vrs TDI 2014) with a DTUK box fitted. Overall I averaged 60.4mpg. At the 1438 mile mark I was averaging 65 mpg. These were brim to brim measurements which were within 1/2mpg of the cars MPG display. Shortly after I returned I had issues with the box which meant it being returned and driving without it for an extended period. My average MPG dropped to 43 mpg - commuting and just general leisure driving. Agreed the driving was more mixed than the mainly motorway driving during my trip but this was still a very big drop. After approx 2 months the box was refitted and mpg rose to an average of 54mpg. I have tested with and without the box many times (as I have had many issues with the box and posted about them multiple times so I am no fan boy) and consistantly get a much higher MPG with the box fitted. My best single journey - 73mpg. A return trip (104 miles) to Stansted Airport which I regularly do. The best I can achieve without the box is 54 mpg so quite a difference. Before someone suggests traffic is the issue these are trips at 12 - 1am and I've tested this multiple times. If you are trying to save fuel then a much higher MPG is easily achievable with the box fitted - If you are trying to go faster then you will not see much of a difference. I am currently trying to sell my box as my car keeps rejecting the box (flashing coil light) at random intervals and 2 years later I am nowhere near solving it so not a huge fan. The box is not faulty as I have been sent replacements. Looking at Audi forums random cars have the same issue but noone can work out why.
  22. I moved doctors about 2 years ago. In my previous doctors (heavily built up town with huge demand) the receptionist was exactly as described and had no medical qualifications - I asked as they really irritated me. They wouldn't hesitate to ask personal questions infront of a queue of people and then tell me how urgent they feel my need for a doctor is. They had an ability to diagnose with one or two questions. Since moving to a smaller, more rural doctors the receptionists here are just a receptionists. They ask how urgent it is and they've had a doctor on the line to call me back within 5 minutes before when they thought it appropriate. They've never tried to put me off booking and appointment. Even if you say it isn't urgent you will still get an appointment within 48 hours.
  23. I don't dispute the proof of item is reasonable, or the proof of ongoing ownership. It's the planning to question all my friends and family I do not agree with.
  24. Not sure if an insurance claim would count as a household affair. If not then I am legally not allowed to give it. I'll go with the "not thinking it is appropriate" line first of all and see what comes of it. I'm 99% sure it is a tactic to put me off pursuing this claim as she repeatedly told me I can stop the claim at any time by not replying to them in the next 14 days and they will reinstate my no claims.
  25. Getting rediculous now..... To summarise very quickly: Opened up every bag of stuff for sale in the garage that I had cleared from the house just to make sure I hadn't chucked it (This took 2 days!) and no joy. A day later they received my complaint and phoned back to say they 'misunderstood' my claim and I now needed to speak to the police to obtain a reference number and then supply it to the insurance. Phoned 101 and got the reference number which I gave to the insurance. Monday morning I received another call from the insurance saying they have accepted the claim and need to arrange for someone to take a statement on the phone the following day (yesterday). The phone call yesterday - 20 minutes statement covering everything from types of locks on my doors to what I now need to supply them with..... Watch box...Tick. Receipt...It was an 18th Birthday present so 11 years old but I confirmed I had the warranty card stamped by the shop which was dated and had a reference of theirs on it so they have asked for this which isn't a problem. Signed statement...Tick A signed form to request a copy of the police reference...Tick. Receipts from getting the battery changed...I have never EVER got a receipt from getting a battery changed so cannot supply this. This isn't a Rolex that has some special tool for opening or special battery so never taken it to a specialist. Photos wearing the watch on more than one occasion...I have been through my photo albums (facebook) and I can't find any photos showing my wrists never mind my watch. Selfies mean the wrist isn't in the photo or if I am wearing a suit then my sleeves cover the wrist. I even tried finding photos of me wearing my current daily watch which I have had for over a year now and there aren't any! I am digging through older paper albums this evening at parents in the hope that there must be at least one photo in existance of me wearing the thing since I have had it for so long. The only problem is it was only taken out on rare special occasions. and wait for it........ They have asked for the names and phone numbers of every friend, family member and BT engineer who have been in my house over the last few months to contact about the watch! There is not even the slimmest chance of me supplying this list. Can you imagine a friend getting a call out of the blue from my insurance company "Did you steal a watch?". Then me getting a call from them saying I have accused them of stealing it! When I questioned her she said "Well we need to get to the bottom of where it is". Surely this is not normal practice. I can only imagine this is some sort of tactic to stop me pursuing the claim or slow it down at least. After calming down I then went around the house photographing every bit of property of value with a copy of yesterdays newspaper infront of it just incase!
