Variable boot floor is no more - now called "slide-out bathtub"??

Featured Replies

Dealer telling me the vbf isn't an option any more and it's been replaced with this:-

He's quoting me €465 for it - but I don't think it delivers a flat loading area or flat area with seats folded. Has anyone seen one in the flesh?

Another lazy RoI dealer ?

Multi month leadtime on one with a proper floor ?

How would the Corolla estate suit you ?

When you say "proper floor" - is that the vbf? He's adamant you cant get them any more at least nor in Ireland.

I'd love a Corolla estate, haven't checked prices yet but I'd be astounded if its anywhere near as cheap as the Octy combi

yup, VBF :)

Would be totally dumbstruck if Skoda have decided to discontinue same. ( would guess you could buy one as an add on. Maybe try an N.I. Skoda dealer as a 'spare part' )

What sort of Octy Combi are you trying to get ?

IIRC Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid start @ circa €35k  Suzuki were pushing a rebadged version for a bit less ... dont know if there are any Suzukis left

I've not seen a vbf in the flesh but heard so many good things about them. Apparently the "bathtub" above doesn't deliver a flat area so what it's for, apart from a bit of storage underneath (how useful is that, when your boot is likely to be full of stuff anyway?), I'm not sure...

I'd see it similar.

I've a (now very tatty) ex UK Elegance Octy 1 Est. Came with this option (the ambiente didnt*)

Makes the boot even & level with the rear seat back when its let down.

On mine the 'floor' can be removed however there are a couple of support pieces (one each side) that provide some support for the removable floor. These are attached to the car body rather than the floor piece. Wonder what they do on the MK4 ?

* that car came with a stack of bits & pieces that the ambiente didnt have  (sunroof, wid(er) tyres, decent aircon  - havnt need a regas to this day :)  ) & tow bar

On my pre-FL mk4 Estate I have the VBF. It is useful to be able to slide things in as it brings the floor level to that of the lower edge of the tailgate opening. But, and it is a big BUT, the rear seat backrests do not fold flat (they did in my old Mk2 'cos the seat tipped forward) so the large flat area isn't so large; rendering the VBF near useless (for me).

Thus, I would rather have a pull-out washable plastic boot liner than the VBF.

The Mk4 VBF supports are built on to the car similar to the Mk2, and sounds like the Mk1 too.

That's useful and something I was thinking about - a big all flat area would be so much better. I might try and see one in the flesh but it seems like quite a lot of cash for what it appears to deliver...

Sounds like its similar to a 1990's Astra estate  ☹️

I'm starting to see VAG's future  ( as a subsidiary of Stellantis )

Unless Skoda have recently stopped doing them, there were variable boot floor kits for every model.  Even had one fitted in a Roomster (which was never an option in UK) so dogs had flat floor.   Dealer part Dept looked it up and ordered it.

In the accessories catalogue the slide out bathtub, seems to have multiple pictures with one just showing the flat floor, so is it a multi part item that can be reversed and used in different combinations

@Chelon is what you are looking for shown on page 14 of the cat from SurreyJohn and described as  "Universal fixing elements 6V0 061 104"  ?  ( could be anything - its such a vague name ! )

No it's on page 29 - I think the universal fixing elements might be the little brackets with velcro on the bottom, not sure though.

For all these (vbf. bathtub etc) is there any work involved in fitting them or do they just drop in and can be removed if needed?

Thats a good question.

And as an aside......does this need to be coded into the car

( no earthly reason why it would other than to relieve the customer of a few more Euros )

FWIW I read somewhere that on the MK4  ( unlike the MKs 1, 2 & 3 ) the rear passenger seat base is fixed and so cannot be removed or hinged forward.
