  1. Tesco. But in fairness, it's used fuel from there since new. I may try and stick some shell + diesel in but at the moment, the gauge is still on full.
  2. Hi, Looking for advise here please. I have a loud knocking noise. Seems more combustion than mechanical and its a very loud clatter ! Much more than normal diesel clatter Car is a vrs tdi and only 3 weeks old and 1850 miles. Could it be coincidence that this appeared about 10 miles after filling up No alarms are up on the dash. I can Rev through the clatter and things settle down and appear normal. No drop off in performance. Revving at a standstill and bonnet open, it is just audible when revved. Happens worst when initial accelerating and the engine comes under load. Noise is not linked to revs which is why I'm thinking it's not mechanical. Have considered calling the assist line to get someone out as I have to go to Heathrow twice next week ! Have done about 40 miles today and cold or warm makes no difference... Steve
  3. Having had mine for nearly 3 weeks and 1800 miles, I've noticed upon stopping the car on 3 occasions, the fans are going mad for a few minutes after stopping the car. Checked in the manual and it mentions this but no mention or indication it was doing a regen... How do you know when it's performing this operation ? Steve
  4. Hi, Is it possible to adjust the consumption values to make them more accurate ? I have VCDS Thanks Steve
  5. I'm the numpty ! Found that I had coded using byte 3 and not byte 4 Lessons learned and all working as it should. Thanks for the replies Steve
  6. I rememeber a magazine doing a test many years ago to see what the performance benefits were for runnning the higher octane rated fuels. The comparisonwas for Shell standard 95 and Vpower 97. They ran 3 cars Normally aspirated 1.6lt family saloon - can't remember make/model Golf gti - This was one of the early turbo cars Subaru Sti For the family car there was hardly any gain For the Golf it was about 3hp For the Subaru it was about 12hp As has been stated on this thread. It's about how much ignition advance the manufacturer allows as to what gains will be seen and adjusted from the knock sensor. Having said that, piston temps will be significantly reduced with the better fuel.. Steve.
  7. Ordered mine on Monday and arrived Wed' Good looking product Steve
  8. I think i've found the problem. i was using VCDS for the first time and set the passenger window mirror to dip..looks like i've set the wrong coding. Will check the log file. I did a full scan before so hopefully i can retrace my steps for this. As they say..rubbish in rubbish out..haha Steve.
  9. Hi All, Had the car since Saturday and can't say for certain if this has been like it since collection. Strangely, when pushing the passenger window opener button on the drivers door, the window only opens/closes about 25mm with each push of the button ! All other windows work in full auto or partial opening closing correctly. I've not tried the passenger window button so don't know if this is working differently. Any ideas ? Thanks Steve.
  10. lozza, Reason for leaving car scheme was the ever shorter list of cars. All had to be standard spec and if options required then pay for then ourselves ! Steve
  11. Hi, After 5 and a half months wait, picked up the new car on Saturday. I've had a 320d Touring for the last 2 yrs and done 45,000 miles in it and that goes back to lease company tomorrow. I've come out of the Co' car scheme due to high tax (I had fuel benefit as well) and a good cash for car scheme at work. My spec is - VRS estate manual - leather, Columbus, black pack, sunset, Canton...maybe others but forgot already...colour is race blue Initial impressions - There is a big improvement in throttle response on any setting which was one of my moans about the BM Little disappointed about the steering but this is in keeping to VAG hire cars i've had. Nothing wrong with it but just lacks any feedback which is a real shame for such a thoroughly capable car. Brakes seem great but obviously taking it steady so far. Quality of interior is really impressive. All the options and menus are a little mind boggling right now and need to spend some time in the car and not driving. The ride is very firm and the whole car seems poised for action which is not like the BM and I love this too. It's a bit like my old classic scoob but a bit stiffer and lacking steering feel. Didn't realise it had lights that adjust in corners at low speed ! doh ! i'm sure there is a proper name for them... I know have 2 x 64gb of FLAC music and the sound is really good and hoping for some more clarity when it runs in some more. If i likened the Vrs to a go kart then the BM would be like a ride on lawn mower. Steve.
  12. Try changing your driving technique to.....slow in fast out.. Please don't take that the wrong way as only trying to offer advise. It's all about being smooth and as they say..less is more. Unsettling the car and putting the weight in the wrong place is not the fastest way. Steve.
  13. Didn't realise I could edit someone else's post or would have obliged... Steve
  14. This is really strange. Ordered my cars, man, estate with Canton, Columbus, black pack, leather, and other stuff I've forgotten now ! Ordered 16th April and it's now at the dealers ready for end of month pick up. Steve
  15. Sorry to go off thread..But I did mean to swap in pairs.. And..Liftoff oversteer is a good thing... ;-) Steve
  16. I've been lurking on the various towbar threads. I didn't go for towbar prep (not 100% sure why) but turns out my local (used them for last 6 cars) is familiar with MK 3 Octavia and only concern he had was the position of the rear parking sensors and mentioned they keep changing location. He advised to go for a removable bar to save any hassle and has quoted £450 which will include full coding. Car is ar dealers awaiting my collection next Saturday..... Steve
  17. Not sure what the Octavia will be like but with previous front drive cars, I've tried to switch front to back once fronts are about 2/3rds worn and then they all waer out at the same time and I have the benefit of having 4 news tyres again rather than unequal ones...just my personal preference ... Steve.
  18. I've got some LED's ready as well. Plus some puddle light LED strip for the bottom of the doors that looked like a good mod.
  19. Hi all, Need some advise.. I pick my new VRS up in a couple of weeks and have already bought the cable. Could you give me an idea what adaptations you've done to yours. Thanks for any replies Steve.
  20. My experince with VAG products is they over servo the brakes which obviously gives an impressions of amazing brakes but the reality is 90% of the stopping power is done with 10% of pedal effort. I pesonally don't like that and prefer a more linear feel....everyone to their own. Most brakes will keep going for a couple of big stops but it's the prolonged hard stoppoing that causes problems...bit like a sprited B road blast. I remember going to the M3 CSL launch at Rockingham and they could only do 3 laps before the trainers had to take the cars on a gentle drive around the perimeter to get the brakes back....shocking for such a car. I'll give feedback to thoughts when I get the car...was told build week 35.. Steve.
  21. Thanks for the comments. Going to keep the Scoob as it's not worth much (My00 and 85k ). Not bothered about low rent interior and hardly ever turn the radio on as what comes from the exhaust is music in itself. If the Skoda is as reliable then i'll be happy as one alternator pulley replaced in 9 yrs of ownership. Hopefully the Vrs (tdi) will fill the gaps in between as i'm doing about 20k a year plodding up and down the motorways.
