  1. Octavia on OEM sport suspension dampers, kitted out with quality springs from Eibach or H&R doesn't kill daily usage at all. I see often referals to "get this" partno., but it depends on weights, which type of spring - "a little vs medium drop" - etc. All in all, if any doubts if too stiff for everyday usage, it seems Octavias (atleast mk2s in UK) has had the pleasure of dealership offering on Eibachs for RS. Accordingly, get the ca 30~35mm drop (and not the stepup, 45~50mm is it?) on OEM sport dampers or equally upgraded sport gas dampened-struts, and you WILL get a lot of comfort, pretty decent drop, and overall nice tweaks for body roll under breaking etc. I have OEM sport suspension on my 1.4, and seriously consider giving it the Eibach Sportline 30~35mm (so, marginally drop over OEM) due better feeling of such setup.
  2. Soooo... We just made ownership for just over a year on the Octy. Then my GF decided to put it agains a concrete pole in the shopping center's garage... Luck would have it she got away with only bruising the door handle and not the side of the car. At this point, I am thinking it could be made very easy, disassembling the door trim and get to the door handle, and give that to a suitable paint shop to get things in order. Usually such work is pretty straight forward, and can save us some money. Then some questions: I suppose so, but can someone verify these door handles is to be unscrewed from inside the door? Are there any special considerations with typical sheet of plastic to secure water drainage / prevent leakage? Can handle be removed without having to loosen the window and window frame railing ?Any other special considerations when going forward with such a task? Thanks in advance guys!
  3. So, we just made it through one year of ownership before my GF got the idea of rubbing the mk3 against the shopping mall garage... LUCKILY she only did the passenger door handle! So, I'm considering dismantling the door myself and get the handle loose and give it to the paint shop to reduce the cost (of before mentioned GF...she's also curbed two sets of wheels). What do you think? Easy enough? Any obstacles? Everything inside the door needs to go except window itself? Any input appreciated..!
  4. A small one done on our roadtrip up north for some summer vacation. Car is pretty filthy in this shot. Most noticeable is the OEM sport suspension, and I am curious about bringing it that 1cm extra on Eibach Pro kit or not...
  5. I have been looking for finding some photos of the Octavia 3 non-RS on Eibach springs, to get an impression on how that will be. Finally, there seems to be some things popping up in Google. Eibach pro-kit: Doesn't say, but I suspect pro-kit here aswell: I need to compare these with my own car on 18s and sport suspension. If you ask me, the Eibach pro-kit looks about just right for everyday usage and driving progressiveness. (I LOVED my pro-kit on the Golf mk2!)
  6. Fitted the Sonniboys yesterday - VERY happy with the quality level of those. The only thing to put my finger on, was the rear window clip being far less angled than it should perhaps?
  7. Maybe I read it wrong. Either way, a 40mm drop ends like OEM sport suspension - not the worst, but maybe not ideal if dampers are taller on 4x4
  8. Nooo. H&R also has 28795-1 that lowers 25mm. On an already heightened 4x4, I'd go 40mm of the two, no time.
  9. I would recommend the following: - if car is supplied with OEM sport suspension, the medium drop Eibach or H&R are fine - of course the same goes for the mild drop Eibach or H&R. - if car is supplied with normal suspension, the mild drop Eibach or H&R. - if car has worn dampers, I would be hesitative to run medium drop anything without considering a new set of dampers. Mild drop may go fine. As a side note, Eibach + Bilstein package is GOLDEN in my eyes!
  10. Please take notice that H&R and Eibach both very often offers two types of lowering springs to Golf-plat formed vehicles. One is gentle lowering (20~30mm typically), the other is medium lowering (35~50mm typically). So when discussing photos or experiences, make sure to mention pro-kit vs sport line etc. Eibach and H&R are both German top quality manufacturers in my eyes, and H&R has some good spacers of different types, all hub centric as far as I know. Sure, check out catalogues at www.eibach.de or www.h-r.de
  11. Just to add my last experience to it all... Found out good old Milotec was selling the Sonniboy kits for the "Combi", or stationwagon in plain english (I regard combi as the "limo" in German). Asked them and was confirmed withdrawal of Mwst (VAT) for sending to Norway, and all good - but it seemed like a non-Paypal or credit card automated webshop. So, I ditched that and bought my Sonniboy kit of ebay at a seller named "Windesa_gmbh", as price was slightly higher (+€16), but freight was quoted lower (-€10). Paypal in order and all that jazz. Now REALLY looking forward to having my daughter observing the world in the back seat without much hazzle.
MEN! Har bilen din endel kilometer på seg, er det nærliggende tro at innkjørte støtdempere tar kvelden fortere, og du kanskje er på prisen for justerbart etter alt.
  13. I suppose a set of Eibach or H&R springs, with decent dampers can be the best sportive (progressive rates) and comfort compromise. But it's all the hassle with all the bits, which made a set of coils just as easy for me... Here's how I tried it out in the beginning, and you notice how chunky those 195/50 tires are then. 195/45 would be ideal. And yes, car is higher now as rear flares needs modification.
  14. Morty: Bilstein "grove" dempere og Eibach eller H&R fjærer gir nok et passe lavt og kjørbart utseende på denne. Alternativt går du bare for kvalitetsgewinde først som sist.
  15. Hi Sharppy, Just realised there was "outsiders" part of this forum and found the thread too. My first car was a 16V "KR", sadly hard hitted with rust, so I gave up and ran drivers seat, roofing and upper dash only - THAT made the car fly! To be honest, I believe sticking with OEM on 16Vs is the better way, as these tend to get sought after these days, just as a tip. When it comes to cheap coilovers, I can understand it somewhat for a almost never driven car. Over here, I do not understand them at dailies at all due salt in winters which makes them bad. And going extremly low on a daily doesn't make sense either... Being fan of the mk2 Golf from old times, I was lucky to pick this up for £200 - although no racer I loved the grandad look on this and could afford letting it go at 93000kms it had back then. Initially I put on Eibach Pro kit 30mm lowering springs, but couldn't get the Koni inserts on as someone swapped for integrated struts up front and I never found new parts for running inserts. In my eyes, that was fairly good with 195/50 tires on. After some years, I got a bit fed tired of the looks and got myself the stainless H&R twin-tubes. Holy cow what a ride quality on decent drop (was failry okay slammed at GTI 14" steelies too, workshop settiing, not my preferred). Now I'd prefer going 195/45, and will test this somewhat this season with wheels from my Polo daily.
  16. I have only tested the 1.6TDI as low-end 90hp with the 5speed in Golf 6 - and that did not sit well with me. I would assume you could somewhat spec a Greenline, but not seats, spare wheel, and so on. I was very surpriced to learn right now about the 6-speed only being there for the Green line - which sounds like a better technical package. Then again, when coming to everyday use, and acknowledging that an Octavia is a purposeful car, a DSG is not a bad thing. I feel spoiled having one in traffic on and off highway on our 1.4 TSI.
  17. Our Octavia had the 5000km oil change at dealer (for log)' will get at 10000 and 15000 as well as bed-in. Especially a turbo engine is so multi part beneficial to avoid excessive wear internally was my idea. Fatzy is very right in his arguments. Long life CAN be run in some cases just fine, but for the general customer I don't see this making sense. My car is setup for 15000km intervals. DSG box, I'll stick to factory 60000km(?) and never neglect those.
  18. Do they fit only by "loose" magnets sat randomly around at door metal?
  19. Hey guys, summer is coming, and I want to lift this thread again. Personally we're having our 6 month old baby girl onboard, and I defineatly need to figure out some sun coverage for the little one in the rear facing baby chair. From what has been posted throughout this thread, I am wondering what people recommend and consider now after som use and purchase. Mainly getting these for the little lady in the back seat, to what extent would you recommend having shades? Some have 5 piece kits, others only for the doors... From what I discover, it seems side window sun is the critical one. It seems there are five main providers in this thread: Superskoda, Van style (aka Palm), x-shades, sonniboy and privacy shades. NB: latter doesn't list the Octy 3 estate in their product list. a. How "secure" are the clips or magnets used to fix the relevant shades, can they come loose (choking hazard) ? b. What price are the different kits typically running (not all are easy to find pricing online) ? c. Given a full 5 piece kit, is it the one from Superskoda a rebrand/unmentioned brand of one of the other manufacturers? Personally I like more stealthy installations, and atleast the privacy shade photos gives me such an impression with their clips. Then again, product purchasing availability seems a bit poor from the Swedish dealer, routing back to main page of manufacturer. What about the others? The X-shades runs rather small magnets from what I can see, and sonniboy seems a obvious - mind, I live in Norway and would run most of the year without the shades in place.
  20. Hey guys, Our july O3 came with the sport suspension. It is okay, but a little ... hmm. Not sure how to describe it. Driving some OEM sport suspension Audi A6s and having Koni's and lowering springs on an Audi 100, those tends to handle small bumps etc better in my opinion. Some sort of comfort is brought to it, rather than the Octavia's way of almost "rattling" frequency when handling such. (no, no real rattling as in loose parts or so.) When making the 5000km oil change (it's a multi componentary turbo engine, ofcourse I don't need excessive particle wear in the beginning), I was handed a RS in the meantime. And it just sits so much more comfortable than tha 140hp on sport suspension. How/why? Is it due non-progressive springs and spring rates being a bit off for the lighter 1.4 unit? Through it all, I found the Eibach pro-kit package including Bilstein B6 or B8. Does anyone have proper experience with those or inputs, as to get a more matching setup on the car?
  21. How to rebuild that Gr B engine...

  22. It is a blue nyance to it. Makes looking at the former platin grey a bit dull actually (which nailed the mk2 facelift!). Here's my instagram-shot after the carwash with misty effect, but you get the idea of antracite on them.
  23. I don't understand the case with warranty you guys in UK are talking about. Changing the dampening characteristics by swapping to lowering springs surely voids any warranty on the shock absorbers. But then again, if you have something worn, I'd say do the springs AND dampers when at it. Most likely the tear and wear of lowering springs on OEM gas dampers will escalate and they'll wear out quicker. As long as the combination seems reasonable, and the products are TüV approved, it's a GO.
  24. Bingo!Well, both H&R and Eibach often offers two versions. Tested the rs today as loan car for mine at dealership, it had qualities closer to Eibach than my 1.4 with sport suspension is.
