I ordered an Octavia III last week and as it happens, SmartGate appeared on the options list on the day we were making the decision. So we thought we'd add it to the list, since it was only 90€. I know very little about it, just what I've read from a few articles (for example) but not much more. Basically it appears to be a Wi-Fi share point within the car that enables you to access car functions on a smartphone. As far as I know there are only two apps available as of now, one for checking fuel consumption related statistics and one for displaying g-forces etc. while driving. Have any of you heard of any apps/functions coming in the future? And second, what kind of functions would you like to see added to it?

I recently ordered an Octavia with KESSY and and electric drivers seat. I know the car is able to save seat and mirror positions for each key (it was a requirement for us, since our family has two drivers with pretty different seat adjustments). But I started to wonder...is the car able to save other settings per key as well? For example BMW allows you to save all sorts of stuff for a key, including radio presets, driving mode settings and more. My question is, is the Octavia able to save more than seat and mirror positions?

New member checking in! We've been pondering on swapping our family car ('06 Volvo V50 T5 AWD) for something newer and the Octavia III has been pretty high on the list for a while now. I've actually been reading the forum quite extensively while making the decision and got some great tips. But last week it finally happened. We ordered an Octavia Combi Elegance 2.0 TDI 184 4x4 DSG after test driving both the petrol and diesel versions. (The little extra grunt and better fuel economy of the diesel won us over.) Now it's a waiting game. Delivery should take place in April. I look forward to getting some great advice on the forum and hopefully helping others out as well. Regards, Kalle

Everyone knows it's near impossible to sway Apples approach on anything, but that's beside the point. I wish all car manufacturers would add support for all the major mobile manufacturers devices and functions and let people choose what they want to use. I wouldn't want my choice of a phone to affect my car chooses nor the other way around.

You do realize that supporting carplay doesn't lock-in anything? It's just one standard among others. Car manufacturers can support other standards on the same unit. Wouldn't it make sense to have support for as many multimedia OS/devices as they can? Let the customer choose which one they want to use.

The auxiliary heater should activate automatically to assist the coolant temperature to reach normal operating levels. This will put less stress on the engine, reduce emissions and help to heat up the cabin quicker. I'd assume this is what's happening. But why wouldn't you want it to do this? As far as I understand it, this operation has only advantages, and it's one of the main reasons for me to order my car with the auxiliary heater.
