  1. Used to have those on an Astra...really comfortable even on long drives; you were able to get just the right thigh support.
  2. Does the auxiliary heater (part of winter pack) come with one or two remotes? I'd expect to get two remotes just like you get two keys, but it seems where ever the auxiliary heater is mentioned, remote is always in singular form. We will however need two since there are two regular drivers for the car and I'd like to bundle the remotes with the car keys.
  3. This is why I've sometimes entertained the idea of getting a military spec Humvee...just so I didn't have to care one bit... Unfortunately they are hideous. I'm afraid it's only a matter of time until you get a similar ruling. I was livid when reading about it the first time.
  4. Another fun piece of EU legislation now states that you don't have to stick around or turn yourself in if you happen to damage someones property on a parking lot. A case like this went to court here in Finland a while ago and he supreme court made a ruling that based on EU law it isn't legal to punish the guilty party for fleeing, even though Finnish law would mandate it... Fun huh? The ruling (originally in Finnish) via Google translate.
  5. I'm afraid you might be giving them too much credit. From my experience, the people I've caught red handed denting/scratching other peoples cars on a parking lot haven't even noticed they did anything, or think that a ding or a scratch would even need to be repaired.
  6. It's incredible really. I can park in the farthest part of a huge parking area...and when I come back there's a car so close to mine I'll have to get in from the passenger side. It really seems some people are afraid to park away from other cars. And don't even get me started on people swinging their doors open...
  7. Basically I'd just like to have the same available options as the new Passat...but I'm sure it'll take a while for some of them to trickle down to Skoda as well...
  8. The sliding cover compartment is clearly the designed place, since (depending on your options) it's inductively connected to the roof antenna. However I've been pondering on getting one of these Belkin cup holders. This way I can use it for watching TV while parked among other things.
  9. I for one am absolutely giddy that they actually offer a spare as an option. Many brands nowadays don't offer them at all. Including my current Volvo. However I'd love to get side assist, CarPlay/Android Auto -support, a touch free boot lid and other "electronic toys" as options as well...
  10. Older models did, but they've had the pressure washing kind for over a decade now. My current Volvo has the pressure washing type and it works well. Of course I wash them by hand whenever I stop at a petrol station, but the washers help keep the lights in ok condition while driving. That said, I use the washers quite a lot, but have never encountered a low washer fluid level warning on my Volvo. The tank has 6,5 liters capacity and I usually add about a liter per 100 km. How much is the capacity on the Octavia btw? I couldn't find a clear number anywhere.
  11. I for one would prefer a quite a lengthy list of more electronic toys.
  12. I'm sure every belt is a lifetime belt if you don't change it... (Sorry, couldn't resist.) But as said above, changing the water pump has been a standard procedure when changing the belt on all my cars so far. It's much cheaper to change it just in case while changing the belt than to have it fail later.
  13. In the Finnish climate it's pretty much a necessity to do that after you wash your car in the winter. (I do it every time even in the summer, since it protects the seals from drying up in the long run.) And it's also a good idea to spray the locks with a lubricating and defrosting spray to keep them operating no matter how cold it is.)
  14. I'm glad i ordered the winter pack. Shouldn't have to scratch the windows no matter where I park. (My current car only has an electric heater, so it only works when I can plug it in.)
  15. The manual states: Below I also noticed this: I hadn't realized the Octavia had heated nozzles...neat!
  16. Could it be possible to do that via MMI cable though?
  17. It's mentioned in the manual. It does that to protect the blades from deforming if left in the same position for too long.
  18. Possibly, but that still means it needs to wipe a dry windscreen every time it moves to that position. So if there's any sand on the windscreen, it's bound to leave a mark at some point...
  19. This might be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure: Only the VRS comes with a sound generator, right?
  20. They fit quite snuggly below the top of the bonnet on my current Volvo (not visible from the inside for example) but I'm still able to easily flip them up. I wonder if the few extra centimeters really make an impact on aerodynamics...or if the designers simply don't realize people in harsher climates may need to flip them up regularly.
  21. This "service position" -thing is something I really dislike about some modern cars. Why do they have to design the bonnet so that you can't lift up the wipers in their resting position like you have been able to with every car I've owned so far? Living in a country with harsh winters I'm accustomed to lifting up my blades at least once a day, often several times a day. (To protect them from freezing to the windscreen, and blocking me from cleaning snow from underneath them and to wipe them down with alcohol every time I have to drive on a salted freeway, if I want them to not streak the next time I use them.) I wonder what I'll end up doing when my Octy arrives...the thought of moving the wipers to the service position every time I park sounds tiresome...not to mention I really dislike the idea of them moving on a dry windscreen in the first place.
  22. That's not exactly who I meant though. I was referring to this. I would imagine it could be a great job opportunity to a person such as yourself.
  23. And yet Tesla seems to be doing so...and adding even more remote controlled functions... Sure it has risks, but as far as I know Tesla has hired some very bright people to keep their systems safe. It might actually be a great job creating opportunity on the security field if other manufacturers followed suite.
