Can anyone recommend snow chains
FWIW mine are Konig chains too. They're good quality, and yes, relatively expensive. But in the unlikely event that you actually need to use them, you absolutely don't want cheapie chains that break after a few hundred meters...and it sounds like you may be limited by what is available to fit yours also. We drive next weekend so just been practicing putting them on!

Can anyone recommend snow chains
I would get chains over socks. Socks are easier to fit but the local police can turn you back if it's particularly bad (I'm assuming you're heading to the Alps?). It's a bad weekend for travel and this is from Snowheads just a minute ago: "Reports on the Val Thorens SCGB FB page that there is chaos on the road going up through Les Menuires. The police are turning back vehicles not equipped with chains. Snow socks will not suffice. It has apparently taken 2 1/2 hrs to travel 8.5km on the road down from VT." More important than brand, practice putting them on. In the dark and cold and rain preferably - because that's what it'll be like when you actually have to put them on. Have good gloves, a piece of cardboard to kneel on, a headtorch, and a good jacket (preferably not your ski jacket!).

Brake fluid question
Search for Brake Fluid Tester...there are many options. They work well from my experience.

Brake fluid question
Lift the strainer out and clean it, post a photo of the actual fluid. If it's not perfectly yellow/clear then ask them to replace again. Mine is 10 years old and fluid only replaced once (I know...but I test it and it's fine)it's clear....certainly doesn't look like that!

A BIG thankyou to this site and forum!
Yes, that is what I did of course. It flagged rear left, so first thing I did was check connection and then clear the codes to see if it repeated (which it did a few yards down the road).

A BIG thankyou to this site and forum!
A week or so ago I was driving locally when I got a Christmas Tree of error lights flash up on the dashboard. Started with ABS, then stability control, then parking system, cruise control sensor, tyre pressure, blah blah.... Cleared them all with the OBDeleven I bought a year or so again (recommended on here). Drove down the road and the lightshow repeated... Quick search on here, found a thread describing similar symptoms, ordered a new ABS sensor off eBay for £18, half an hour to get the wheel off and fit it, clear the errors again, check it worked - and all sorted! What a great and useful site this is!!

Fault: light assist
Good to hear!

Fault: light assist
That looks like the one - mine at least! Worth a try at that price? They're V expensive from Skoda.

Fault: light assist
Mine failed recently - there is a PCB inside the mirror which can fail. I bought a mirror from a scrappy and it worked again with no issues, straightforward to replace. There's a couple of threads here on the forum.

Looking to buy a MK3 Octavia. Advice please?
Why diesel rather than Tsi?

Error service: leave vehicle only when selector in position p
So I finally got around to buying a replacement switch. I have a 2015 1.4 Tsi DSG Octavia. I have trawled through all of this thread, many other threads here and elsewhere, googled and searched youtube...... Is there a video anywhere that shows how to remove the trim to get access to fit it specifically for an Octavia 3? I've found golfs, seats, superbs, VW recall instructions etc, but cannot find anything that resembles my Octavia 3 trim - any links would be most appreciated!

High Beam Assistance doesn't work, got error code
Many thanks to all the contributors to this thread! My High Beam Assist stopped working some months ago. Finally got around to doing something about it and bought a s/h unit from a scrapyard for £40 (on eBay - part number 5G0857511D). I have an OBD11, but didn't need to change or modify any coding (original mirror long code was the same as the new, same as shown in posts above), just plugged in the new one and it is working perfectly.

Mirror link in Smartlink
Recently did the same and had the same issue. Ended up getting OBD11, but you need the Pro to be able to do the adaptations.

Break Pads Clips not big enough rear Axle....
I just changed the original rear pads on my 2015 1.4Tsi. There were no shims there, assume it came like that from the factory. There were some shims that came with the new pads, along with new loctite bolts. There was no way the new pads were going to fit with the shims in place, and I spent some time cleaning and wire brushing...

My reliability report
2015 1.4TSi SEL DSG Estate on 89K. Unplanned service costs - zero. Unplanned 'breakages/issues' - high beam assist stopped working this year (not worried about fixing it), and for 3-4 years the 'leave vehicle in park' message pops up occasionally due to the well known gearselector microswitch (not worried about fixing it). Just replaced front pads/disks and a new battery earlier this year, and rear pads this month - all for the first time. Other than that just regular oil and filters, tyres (twice), plugs (twice). And a headlight bulb. It's been a great car! Maybe I've been lucky.

Changing Brake Pads
Just changed my rear pads (2015 1.4TSi Estate). Straightforward job, used a standard caliper rewind tool.

multiple warnings lights
No OBD11 then, so don't know. Within a few days of starting to throw up error messages, it began to turnover a little slowly when starting. and died a few days later. Battery transplant worked wonders!

multiple warnings lights
Mine suddenly started throwing up multiiple error messages a couple of months ago. It was the battery.

Safety Hammer Mounting advice
There's a safety vest holder/pocket under the driver seat - velcro it to the underside of that?

Smartlink activation in south west UK
You need Pro to be able to change the adaptations. I got mirrorlink enabled through an eBay patch/software update (see upthread) but it did not enable AA or Carplay. Eventually bought OBDeleven pro to (very easily) enable AA and Carplay. So cost £83.12 in the end (The Ebayer gave a refund since it didn't do as promised, and bought direct from OBD11 with a discount code)....and a little frustration after getting mirrorink enabled initially! And now have a year to play with OBD11 and see what it can do...

So my FDSH comes to an end...
I decided my 9 year old 87K miles Octavia no longer needs to go to the stealers, and I'll DIY from now on. So for the first time, oil and filter change (very simple), air filter (very simple, done that before, the Skoda interval seems too long..), cabin filter (that latch is a pain but done it before also), spark plugs (so I bought the pull tool from eBay, helped a bit I guess, but still felt uncomfortable at the force needed to pull the coilpacks out.....all good though. All four old plugs a little rusty on the threads and some squeaking as they were unscrewed...yeuch...but it is what it is). Greased the hinges and checked the levels, lights, tyres etc. Took a couple of hours, saved a fortune. Took some photos and have the parts receipts for the records... By how much have I devalued the car, if at all, for a potential buyer?
